Btw, I would characterize letting Sunday continually get torched by a "big" spotting up from 3, Cruz guarding Duggan when has 4 fouls, and Robinson running a 25 second iso up 3 with 40 seconds left (while Jean stands stationary in the corner watching) as stupid mistakes equal to every cross court turnover and offensive rebound allowed

The coaching sucked today, that's where it should start. We have no clue on offense.
The bottom line is we ran out of gas again, and we lacked composure down the stretch.

Looks like this team goes as Davis goes. He did not have a good 2nd half and took two bad fouls to get knocked out of the game. Hard to see in person if those were bad calls, but no matter as a leader you cannot foul out in a close game like that especially given that there is no backup pg (kj is NOT that)

Awful turnover at the worst time but what was Robinson doing before that on that trip? Give up the ball!!! Dribble, dribble, dribble... dribble some more... okay, trying to beat your man, but dude, recognize when it's just not there and give it up. Had open guys in the left corner and on the right wing calling for the ball. That was worse than the key turnover that followed.
Also, for such a normally good defensive team, they let three guys, and absolutely no one else beat them. The trio of Dorsey, Duggan, and Sinani totaled just 13 pts at halftime. That same trio scored every one of Campbell's 39 second-half and 10 overtime points. I do think they'd have pulled it out in regulation if not for some really bad foul calls that went against them down the stretch but regardless, you can't blow a 16-point halftime lead, especially when no one else is scoring for them AT ALL except for three guys. Very tough one as they had some other "must wins" that they were able to get at 1-2 and at 2-4. This was another one to get to 4-4 but now 3-5 is kind of a big difference. Let's see what they can show on the road now at Elon and then a very quick opportunity for payback at Campbell. Just like you can say Hofstra was able to "Cruz" on Thursday, you can say that the Campbell trio got the Camels over the hump.

Watching this game at the mack was a real gut punch. Thought when we were up by 16 I would be able to relax in the 2nd half. They say the first 5 minutes of the second half is also crucial and when Campbell came out and scored the first 5 points I began to worry. Then they whittled away and got into the bonus. They actually helped us at times from the foul line but without Cruz in the game we looked lost on O. The loss somewhat overshadowed the nice game that Farmer was having. He's really playing with a lot more confidence. This game was in the W column IMO until that crosscourt pass from TJ. A shame I could see the look on his face and how badly he wanted that one back. Also Robinson was just itching to hoist one up when he came in for Cruz and it didn't take long for him to throw up a brick. I just have to wonder where was Sanders and why not even a minute in this game? What is his status?

I obviously have no idea if Sanders was/is still dealing with stuff off the court or battling more serious lingering injuries that have affected his play. But speaking to just what he showed on the court this season, I fully understand the staff putting him in the doghouse. At the same time though, I have no idea why Robinson gets so much longer a leash. Hard to believe Sanders would be much worse than what Robinson has been doing latelytriplec2195 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 4:52 pm Also Robinson was just itching to hoist one up when he came in for Cruz and it didn't take long for him to throw up a brick. Re: MBB Game 21 Campbell Jan 25 (Sat) 12 PM
I am just speculating but I think it's more of a lack of faith in Sanders than the lingering knee tendonitis or lingering personal issues. But as you said, could he be worse than Robinson? I had high hopes for Robinson but he just hasn't been good. Speedy keeps saying they all need to shoot with more confidence. Ironically, the ones who need to shoot more are the ones who need to do that and someone like Robinson, who should be shooting less is the one guy who seems to not lack confidence. Seems like he's willing to shoot from wherever and whenever and that's hurting them because he's often been off. I had high hopes for him but he just hasn't shown it.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 7:10 pmI obviously have no idea if Sanders was/is still dealing with stuff off the court or battling more serious lingering injuries that have affected his play. Farmer was 3/3 today, all from 3, all during his 13 first-half minutes and shot well on limited shots in other games recently. No shots for him in 15 second-half minutes today. They needed to recognize that better and let him fire away in the second half and see if he could have kept it going. Would like to see more of him and more shots from him in place of Robinson.
Hofstra's first CAA loss this year: by 18 points
Hofstra's other four CAA losses since: by a total of 18 points
Odd question (probably for Evan): Does the CAA lead the nation in school names made up exclusively of multiple regular English words? They have four:
camp bell
tow son
north eastern
stony brook
Odd second question: Is there anyone else in the country who has the same syllable (with the same spelling) to end his first name and to start his surname besides Campbell's Jasin Sinani?

I used a Scrabble dictionary at https://scrabble.merriam.com/ to find out whether parts are words, and I excluded proper nouns. I divided words or places into upto four parts. I found nine conferences other than the CAA with at least four such teams:

This game had two very rare events. Davis became the first player from 2010-2011 to now to have 7 or fewer field goal attempts, at least 7 free throw attempts, at least 7 rebounds, at least 7 assists, 5 fouls, and at least 7 turnovers. Campbell's Cam Gregory and Caleb Zurliene became the first teammates to score 0 or 1 point while playing at least 32 minutes in a win since Delaware's Kyle Anderson and Devonne Pinkard in a 67-64 win hosting College of Charleston on February 5, 2014. Graham's 21 rebounds were the fourth most by a player this season, and the most without blocking a shot. Two of the three highest were against non-Division I teams.
This is the second consecutive season that we blew a big lead and lost in the game on my birthday weekend. Last season we blew a 13 point lead to Monmouth.

Happy birthday, Evan! And many more! Sorry Hofstra did the same as last year instead of giving you a present.EvanJ wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 11:15 pm I am not researching school names that are words, but https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/standings has conferences if you want to scroll through.

The rebounding has been much improved over the past several games after being a big problem earlier, so that's one bright spot at least. Graham with 12 pts and 21 reb today is a big reason why. Although, as Speedy pointed out after the game, eight offensive rebounds allowed in the second half hurt after Campbell only had one of those in the first half.
Strange that they can have such drastically different results (won 93-68 Thursday, lost 69-67 in OT today) with five double-digit scorers in two straight games.

Thank you. I edited my post while you were typing to type about school names that can be broken down into words.
The nearest team to me is Omaha, who leads the Summit League, is trying to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time, and that is after their top player transferred. They had a bad game when I went to see them last season, which is the only basketball game I went to since the 2020 CAA Tournament.

- When Cruz Davis scores 15+ points Hofstra is 8-1 (Houston the only loss)
- When he scores less (or dnp) Hofstra is 3-9
Compare that to Jean using 14 points (a number he's oddly scored exactly 5 times) as the benchmark:
- only 6-8 When he scores 14+
- 5-2 When he scores under 14
So truly as Davis goes, so does Hofstra
Re: MBB Game 21 Campbell Jan 25 (Sat) 12 PM
ROBINSON - hate both his handle and shot selection - good effort guy - but not the dude I want in an isolation role - maybe trying to give him real game situation experiencedutchPride86 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 3:49 pmBtw, I would characterize letting Sunday continually get torched by a "big" spotting up from 3, Cruz guarding Duggan when has 4 fouls, and Robinson running a 25 second iso up 3 with 40 seconds left (while Jean stands stationary in the corner watching) as stupid mistakes equal to every cross court turnover and offensive rebound allowed
REFFING - I was not there - but on TV - looked pretty bad - announcers diplomatically agree - I think when we’re home on Saturdays we get the runt-of-litter of refs (because the good refs are doing better conference games) on Thursdays we get the varsity refs
thought FARMER should’ve been in when DAVIS went down
SANDERS no inside intel from me - but the few minutes he got - that I saw in person - he is limping and obviously lame - not sure if there are other issues but can’t see why he’s getting minutes until is significantly healthier
GADSDEN is the perfect physical specimen of an athletic player - size athletic - his outside shot is seeet - it does everything but goes in the basket - and his decision making/basketball IQ - hmmmm
COACHING - yesterday - dispite the reffing - was an F - and a winnable game

Re: MBB Game 21 Campbell Jan 25 (Sat) 12 PM
I believe that Davis picked up his 4th foul when the O player was backing him in trying to get a chip shot close to the basket. They were bodying each other which that back and forth so common place was going on the entire game and was never called. Reach in and more aggressive fouls were called but this wasn't called to the best of my recollection and DePaoli had to restrain Speedy from picking up a T which I had predicted was going to happen in this game. His displeasure with the refs was off the charts. Just saying not making excuses for why we lost. That speaks for itself. We let that one guard hit 6 threes and most of those were wide open looks.
Re: MBB Game 21 Campbell Jan 25 (Sat) 12 PM
He had a really rough ending. Not only committed the turnover that allowed Campbell to force OT but Duggan's game-winner in OT was over him after Duggan momentarily lost the ball against him.
Re: MBB Game 21 Campbell Jan 25 (Sat) 12 PM
Refs were horrible. That late call on Gadsden was a joke...he got all ball. We need to remember that this is a young team and they have hardly played together...our two key guys, Davis and Aranguren are sophmores....and so are the back up guards.
We returned what 8 points of scoring, lost our entire starting unit.
I like alot of our pieces but they need to LEARN how to close out games.
Hope they get better instead of hanging their heads at this point in the season

Man I'm still stewing about this game next day. I think I've gotten over bad CAA tourney losses faster. Lol
The Saturday jv refs in the CAA have been an issue for YEARS, and there were certainly some questionable calls down the stretch yesterday. But what wasn't were Davis' 2 clear awful shooting fouls in the first half, bailing out Campbell players throwing up prayers with shot clock and 1st half set to expire respectively. Better discipline there that's a couple extra pts off the board for Campbell AND Davis doesn't foul out, and we're probably not having this conversation.
And Davis committing over aggressive bad fouls is something he's been prone to all season. Yet another you would think coachable mistake that this staff has failed to correct

The refs were bad and cost them the game down the stretch.
But when you're up 18 and 16 at the half, at home, you have to keep the lead big enough to not even let it come to the refs' whistles down the stretch.
And they were playing 3-on-5 and still won. You're a good defense, you know only three guys are scoring at all from them from halftime on, and you still allow those three to beat you?
Yeah, the refs were a big factor, but that's one to look in the mirror and learn from.

Campbell's game summary includes links to videos of the crucial final minutes in regulation and OT:
https://gocamels.com/news/2025/1/25/men ... in-ot.aspx
Jasin Sinani not only made the tying shot in regulation, but he also tipped the pass that was intercepted. I'm guessing he'll be in the running for CAA Player of the Week.
