Re: Men's Soccer 2024
We lose to UPenn on Tuesday 3-1. They only had one loss coming in and were ranked 18/15 and we were ranked 21/17. I suspect this shouldn't affect our ranking too much. https://gohofstra.com/news/2024/10/8/me ... -penn.aspx
Re: Men's Soccer 2024
Troubling that we have lost two in a row and have had 8 goals scored against us during those two losses.
Re: Men's Soccer 2024
Following the losing streak, we won 1-0 hosting Campbell, and got a 1-1 tie at Number 23 North Carolina State. We are 6-0-1 at home and 3-3-1 away.

A lot of fill in the spaces needed with this program that has under performed to some degree but a win tonight gets us into the playoffs. We were picked to win the conference and have been ranked(24) for a lot of the year as we play Delaware. https://gohofstra.com/news/2024/10/31/m ... berth.aspx

Re: Men's Soccer 2024
So we beat Delaware 4-0 last night and punch our ticket as the 4 seed. We now will play #5 Charleston on Thursday at Elon. We had lost to them in the regular season but can't see that happening again.

The game is about to start and you can watch at https://www.flocollege.com/live/126004 while https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=558142 has statistics. Filippo Dadone, Gabriel Pacheco, Jon Jelercic, Owen Barnett, Mylo Hall, Roc Carles, Pierce Infuso, Jacob Woznicki, Teddy Baker, Thengill Orrason, and Laurie Goddard are our starters.
https://gohofstra.com/news/2024/11/4/me ... wards.aspx is titled "Infuso, Orrason Earn CAA Weekly Awards." Infuso won defensive player of the week, and Orrason won rookie of the week.
https://gohofstra.com/news/2024/11/6/le ... teams.aspx is titled "League High Seven Named To All-CAA Men's Soccer Teams." Infuso and Woznicki made the First Team; Goddard made the Second Team; and Lennon Gill (who got injured and made the Rookie Team), Carles, Eoin Farrell, and and Baker made the Third Team. It says we are ranked Number 18, and I am guessing it is the first time a team ranked that high was seeded 4 or worse in the CAA Tournament.

Re: Men's Soccer 2024
The game ended at 107:45, which means 2:15 left in double overtime, with Teddy Baker scoring directly from a corner kick. It is extremely unusual to make a corner kick curve into the goal without being touched by another player. An announcer said we should be on SportsCenter. Daniele Mastroianni had his shot saved and sent out of play by Charleston to concede the corner kick. We blew two leads. Laurie Goddard scored at 4:42, and we led for about 60 minutes until Charleston's Matt Lenert tied it at 64:25. Roc Carles gave us a 2-1 lead at 71:53, but Charleston's Ryan Watson tied it at 78:48, and it took another 26:57 until the game-ending goal. Five seconds before the final goal, Coach Nuttall got a yellow card. Carles, Gabriel Pacheco, and four Charleston players also got yellows. The box score taught me that the NCAA has "team saves," which do not exist in professional soccer. I assumed that every shot on goal had to be a goal or save by the opposing goalkeeper, but that is not true. Each team had 15 shots and 12 fouls. We had more shots on goal 8 to 6. Our shots on goal were 3 goals, 3 Charleston goalkeeper saves, and 2 Charleston team saves. We did not make any team saves. Charleston had more corner kicks 10 to 4. Our third corner kick was at 32:35, and we did not have another one until 107:40 when the ball went in five seconds later. The chance of having a coach get a card and within five seconds later scoring directly off a corner kick to win and end a game by a team whose previous corner kick was over 75 minutes earlier could be one in a million.
6 seed UNCW defeated 3 seed Monmouth in penalty kicks after each team scored once in 110 minutes, and one of the announcers of our game made a mistake about it. Penalty kicks were 5-4, but he mistakenly said that 9 of 10 kicks were made. It was 9 of 14. The amount of kicks made does not always tell you if the game was decided within the regular five kicks or needed more kicks. On Sunday, we play at Elon at 2:00 P.M., and UNCW plays at Drexel at 3:00 P.M. If both away teams win, we host the Final. If Monmouth defeated UNCW today, it would have guaranteed that we could not be the better seeded Finalist.

Re: Men's Soccer 2024
A very tough nail biter congrats to the team and Nuttall.
Re: Men's Soccer 2024
Congrats on a TOUGH win! Go Pride!
Re: Men's Soccer 2024
I've been watching soccer for a long time and I've never heard of an "Olympico" goal -- where the ball goes directly from the corner into the net. It would have been helpful to define the term in this article:
https://gohofstra.com/news/2024/11/7/me ... inals.aspx
Proud Papa Moment: My son scored one in youth soccer a number of years ago.

Re: Men's Soccer 2024
I watched the game and it was a tough physical game. To win the game in overtime on that amazing shot has to be one of the great moments for a soccer program that has had so many.
Winning like that may be quite a spark t0 get on a run to do a 4peat!!
Good luck tomorrow guys!

Re: Men's Soccer 2024
We take a 2-0 Lead in the second half as we scored two goals 18 seconds apart
Re: Men's Soccer 2024
And by virtue or UNCW beating Monmouth, a HOME game in the finals!!
Re: Men's Soccer 2024
I wrote to SportsCenter on X telling them to do that.
Re: Men's Soccer 2024
CAA final Hofstra vs UNCW Saturday 7:00 at home
Re: Men's Soccer 2024
They weren't 18 seconds apart. They were at 53:01 and 56:42. https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=558979 has statistics.stuball888 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 4:26 pm We take a 2-0 Lead in the second half as we scored two goals 18 seconds apart

https://gohofstra.com/news/2024/11/10/m ... -game.aspx is titled "Hofstra Blanks Top Seeded Elon in Semifinals, Will Host CAA Championship Game." On the second goal, goalkeeper Filippo Dadone got his first career assist. Elon had only one shot on goal, and it was in the first fourth of the game. Laurie Goddard has his first multi-goal game for us. He scored 3 goals in a game twice for Merrimack last year.
In the RPI through Thursday, we were fifth, and Elon was 49th.
The Final will be Saturday at 7:00 P.M. at the same time as Men's Basketball at Massachusetts.

And now I have to choose whether I drive to Amherst or Hempstead!
