MBB vs Northeastern - 2/21
MBB vs Northeastern - 2/21
Looks like there will be many, many student athlete awards given out during the game this Sunday. Hopefully that means that the urchins will be in their seats, rooting the team on, before and after they go on court (during tv time outs) to be recognized.
Sunday afternoon, no football, students at the Mack, nice way to a family or CYO group, or scout group to spend an afternoon. Should be a decent crowd against a always tough opponent!

I'm expecting one of our larger turnouts - the university is actually giving out 500 pretty nice SnapBack caps to the first 500 students.
Re: MBB vs Northeastern - 2/21
I'm bringing 15 but alas it's in one of the suites... gave my four season tix to friends... bringing nearly 20
Re: MBB vs Northeastern - 2/21
I thought we might get some help from CofC today against UNCW. We almost did as the game went to OT before UNCW pulled it out. It was clearly the worst offensive example of college basketball that I have ever seen. In the second half, both sides must have had 25% air balls on jumpers, and 50% misses on layups!! I kid you not, this is no exaggeration, I had never seen anything like it. Teams would go consecutive possessions without hitting the rim. Score at end of regulation was 49-49. Absolutely pitiful!
So UNCW lost to W&M last game, and was horrendous today. Maybe they are beginning to play more like the preseason expectations. We shall see on Thursday, but as JM says, we have a game tomorrow first, and we never look more than one game ahead!

http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=105892&a=1 will have statistics. Hofstra is starting Green, Tanksley, Gustys, Koon, and Bernardi. Since Nichols is injured and Hofstra has no seniors on the bench, even on Senior Day next week I would expect Hofstra to use the same starters.
Re: MBB vs Northeastern - 2/21
Northeastern is starting David Walker (guard), Jeremy Miller (forward), Quincy Ford (forward), Caleb Donnelly (guard), and Zach Stahl (guard). http://caasports.com/custompages/stats/ ... m#team.ind has Northeastern's statistics.

Good first half.. Up 11..
Really thought the passing was great. Moving the ball, and hitting open shots for the most part. We have to keep our foot down still. Cant have ANOTHER collapse.. Big W if we can pull it out..

First 4:01: 11-7, NU; NU shot 4/6.
Last 15:59: 26-11, HU; NU shot 4/20.
Walker, the CAA's leading scorer (18.4 ppg coming in): just 3 pts on 1/7 fg (1/6 from 3).

Is it just me, or does the band look a lot bigger than it normally does? Great crowd on tv, I'm glad people showed up.Wags wrote:Best crowd and environment all season (both in the Lion's Den and overall).dutchalum01 wrote:I'm expecting one of our larger turnouts - the university is actually giving out 500 pretty nice SnapBack caps to the first 500 students.

After starting 3/11, Quincy Ford scored made NU's last 3 shots to pull the Huskies to within 40-37 with 12:46 left.

about time. This should have been as soon as the students came back from break or the start of conference play.
Re: MBB vs Northeastern - 2/21
God solid win against a tough team...band was awesome, they all showed up...crowd over 3000 for the first time this year but still no student section to speak of...why can't they get behind this team? 20 win season, exciting basketball good kids and students! I just don't get it! Their loss!
Re: MBB vs Northeastern - 2/21
http://gohofstra.com/boxscore.aspx?path=mbball&id=7005 is the box score. Hofstra was favored by 7.5 and didn't cover. The total score of 125 was way under the over/under of 149. Hofstra made exactly 35 percent of their field goals, which was their worst percentage in a win since January 3, 2015 at UNC Wilmington. That was 48 games ago. Northeastern made only 2 free throws, which was the second fewest by a Hofstra opponent in Hofstra's last 175 games. Elon made 1 free throw at Hofstra 24 days ago. For the season, Hofstra has a -21 differential on points from field goals and a +176 differential on points from free throws. The free throw differential leads the CAA, with Northeastern second at +126. Green had 7 assists and 5 rebounds in the first half, and then only 1 assist and 2 rebounds in the second half. Green (13 points) and David Walker (15 points) didn't have big games. Quincy Ford had 15 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists, but made only 7 out of 20 field goals. Koon (19 points and 7 rebounds) and Gustys (17 points and 16 rebounds) were the two leading scorers in the game. The game had only 5 bench points, 3 for Donnell Gresham Jr. and 2 for Buie. Buie and Bernardi scored 2 points each, which was tied for fifth on Hofstra. It was the second time this season that Hofstra's fifth leading scorer scored 2 points or fewer. The previous time was a loss at College of Charleston on January 7.
Edit: Northeastern had no fast break points. http://gohofstra.com/news/2016/2/21/MBB ... ath=mbball is Hofstra's recap titled "MBB: Balanced Scoring Leads Hofstra Past Northeastern."

Yep PoP, Rok played well from the line and hit 7 FTs. Also had his typical overall monster game! Green played really well, he is definitely turning it on late in the season. I love watching him on fast breaks....especially when it looks like he's going full speed and then he turns it up even further and blows past everybody. DK played really well, hitting some key threes, but I also liked him driving strong to the hoop a number of times!
Looks like BB has not yet come out of his funk.
DB did not hit his shots, but the kid has much talent and will be fine.
Good crowd today - nice to see.
HUSID80 - noticed a raucous bunch in one of the lux boxes. I can't imagine who they belonged to!!! Looks like they had a great time!
