MBB Game 3 Seton Hall, Nov. 13 (Wed) 8 PM

Post by Jojogunne »

On Wednesday, we return to the Nassau Coliseum for the first time since 2017 to face a rebuilding Seton Hall team in a new doubleheader, the Icons of the Game.

Here's a preseason preview of Seton Hall:

Maybe we will catch lightning in a bottle and upset the Pirates, who are also learning to play together.

Interesting that our NEXT opponent, UMass, will play Louisiana Tech at 6 pm in the game before ours.

MSGSN will carry both games.

Fordham just upset Seton Hall at Walsh on a buzzer beater. Up 4 with 20 seconds left Seton Hall fouled a kid shooting a 3 (who made all 3 FT), then prompty turned the ball over, giving Fordham the chance for the win. Means 2 things:

1. This is a winnable game Wed
2. Seton Hall is going to be very pissed off and not take us lightly at all

Was tempted to go for both games but I’ll be there for the Hofstra/Seton Hall clash. Can’t be thrown off by a Big East opponent, this one is well within reach. Quite excited for Wednesday!

Seton Hall's first non-conference loss at Walsh since 1989.

Will be interesting to see what happens on Wednesday, with Seton Hall's response to that, after Hofstra's very solid showing against Iona and with ESPN currently giving Hofstra only a 24.9% chance to beat the Pirates.

I got a pretty solid deal in Section 111. $50 with fees and a decent view!

ESPN now giving us a 28.5 percent chance of winning. I wonder what the line on this game will be playing it on a neutral court. Obviously much closer to us then them.

Those odds are only because its a Big East team...I see this match up as even with a slight nod to the Pride.

Those ESPN odds can be misleading, it’s more of people picking the team they know over a smaller conference opponent.

Yes agree on this HUSID we've been down this road before. Seton Hall may have their hands full.

I was looking at the TV Sports graphic in Newsday for Wednesday, November 13th and noticed that both the UMass-La Tech and the HU-SHU Nassau Coliseum games were NOT LISTED! I guess just not covering the team is one thing, but not to list MSG games is quite another. The HU Women's game against Yale yesterday was only covered in the general listings of scores from around the country. Also. did anyone notice that Iona was defeated at home to Delaware 64-56?

S.H. is a 4.5 point favorite in this game. Hope we thump them.

Iona fell to 0-3. The CAA is 10-18 nonconference against Division I. The CAA is 18th of 31 in KenPom with Charleston, Towson, UNCW, and us as the only teams in the top half. The NET does not start until weeks into the season.

https://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/202 ... tgame.html is Jerry Beach's "Keep It Perky: Iona postgame." The 90-76 win over Iona was our second consecutive unicorn score, meaning the first time we won by that score. Jerry will write a preview later today.

The combination of line and over/under expects us to lose 72-67.5, and KenPom expects us to lose 71-67. In the first game, Louisiana Tech is favored by 1.5.

Edit: ESPN now says Massachusetts is favored by 1.5, which is a quick change in the line.

https://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/202 ... -hall.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Seton Hall." Michael Graham and Silas Sunday became our first teammates to score at least 14 points without attempting a three-pointer since Moussa Kone and Malik Nichols in an 81-57 win at Drexel on February 15, 2015, which was 298 games before that. We are 3-10 at Nassau Coliseum, and 3-14 at big arenas on geographical Long Island including there, Barclays Center, and UBS Arena. We have not won at Nassau Coliseum since joining the CAA. It is our first game against Seton Hall since a loss on December 31, 1970.

https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=558972 will have statistics.

https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=558971 has statistics of Louisiana Tech vs. Massachusetts.

Which is all LaTech thus far. UMass really doesn't look that impressive at all. If Hofstra can get a W tonight, the may have a good shot at a 4-0 start on Saturday. Of course, first thing's first tonight but I am surprised UMass isn't giving more of a battle in this one.

Louisiana Tech led by 19 and won 76-66. Amaree Abram led all players with 19 points. Sean Newman Jr. had 14 points, 12 assists, 2 turnovers, and no fouls. Jaylen Curry led Massachusetts with 14 points. The game ended at 8:05, so we will probably start at 8:35 or later.

The statistics for our game say "This event will automatically start once data is received" so the lineups are not available.

St. John's is favored by 25.5 hosting Wagner and leads by 7 with 12:17 left. The teams have only two threes each. That is on Fox Sports 2.

Edit: We are starting Gadsden, Sanders, Davis, Aranguren, and Graham. Seton Hall is starting Dylan Addae-Wusu (guard), Chaunce Jenkins (guard), Isaiah Colemen (guard), Prince Aligbe (forward), and Godswill Erheriene (center).

St. John's now has a big lead.

Seton Hall keeping the game at their pace and hofstra really struggling in half court offense. Sanders and Gadsden having really rough shooting nights with the few open looks we've gotten. Foul trouble also an issue again.

But hustle and effort is there though. This is a winnable game.

Oh and Arranguren is a stud. Love his game, esp how he actually attacks the basket

3-0 boys. Gotta love the effort out of this team playing behind much of the game. Always great to knockoff a P5 team.

We won 49-48. Seton Hall got the last shot and missed a three that would not have helped them more than a 2. Seton Hall scored 24 in each half. Seton Hall has consecutive losses by 1 to area teams. Seton Hall led for 30:22, but never by more than 7. Aranguren led us with 13 points and led all players wih 6 assists. Gadsden led all players with 7 rebounds, but he shot 1-8. Our bench played 42 minutes with two threes by Robinson and three scoreless players. On the court, Sanders got player of the game, but in all three statistics I get from the Analytics tab, Seton Hall's led all players, and Aranguren was better than Sanders. He had 12 points and 4 rebounds. Davis had 9 points and led all players with 3 steals. Chaunce Jenkins led all players with 18 points. Mid-majors are known for being called for more fouls than top conference teams. In this case, we committed 3 fewer fouls, but Seton Hall attempted 6 more free throws. Seton Hall shot free throws 8-11. Dyan Addae-Wusu scored 11 and led all players with 8 rebounds. In our first two games, we had five players score double-digits. Today the teams had two double-digit scorers each. Sunday did not shoot in 18 minutes, but had significant numbers in other statistics. He had 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 fouls, 2 turnovers, and 3 blocks. Starter Michael Graham had 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Seton Hall had more rebounds 36 to 30. We were +11 with Aranguren on the court, and negative with the other four starters on the court. It must be rare for a team's starters to play 79 percent of the game and have four of them have a negative plus/minus in a win.
