Re: MBB 2024-25 Roster
We are way too small - again.
Re: MBB 2024-25 Roster
We have four guys listed at 6-7 or taller...we will be fine for the way Speedy plays.

Re: MBB 2024-25 Roster
Our new player is Miguel Mantilla Pacchiano from Austin, Texas, a junior. I don't know if Miguel played anywhere else before coming to Hofstra, but it appears he played three years at Lake Travis High School, where his coach was Clint Baty, father of the Mets' Brett Baty.
Lake Travis has produced a number of NFL players, including QB Baker Mayfield and WR Garrett Wilson. Wilson and Brett Baty played football together at Lake Forest.
Here are some video clips of Miguel::

Welcome to Hofstra, Miguel!

When will Pacchiano play?
While looking at my old computer files, I discovered that I made a file when Michael Graham, who was playing for Elon at Drexel, had a majority of his team's points and a majority of his team's rebounds with 3:46 left in the first half. It is hard to have that much of your team's points and rebounds over 40 percent of the way through the game. That was on January 20, 2022. Drexel led 32-22 at the time and won 77-49. Graham slowed down to the point where Hunter Woods led Elon in scoring, but Graham's 17 rebounds were a majority of Elon's 31 rebounds excluding team rebounds.

Pacchiano as a walk on won't see much action I'd imagine but should get on the floor when we play St Joseph's on 12/6 assuming we're blowing them out.
Re: MBB 2024-25 Roster
This 2024/25 team is starting to remind me - still early - of our excellent Pecora/Hofstra 2006/07 team.
Both rely on a potent 3 guard system that on any given night any of those three could go off and lead the team.
This year -
Sanders (JS) and Aranguren (JA) are hoisting up 13 threes a game - and with Cruz (in my opinion - is our team leader) these three are making about 66% of our points...and these three to date are being counted on to battle for 14 boards a game - while playing a total of105 minutes in our 1st 4 games
The 2006/07 squad -
Augdio and Rivera lead the team in threes with 12 per contest - and along with their team leader - stud - Stokes they accounted for 60% of the points per game...and rebounding at the same clip per game as our current squad - 14...while combing for 113 per
Both years our first starting forward - was really a 4th guard -
Gadeson - contributes 4 points - and 6 rebounds in 28 minutes
while Seskous - played 27 minutes scored more at 7 per game and rebounded 2 a game
Both teams rotate bigs - one big at a time -
we go with Graham (for 18 minutes, 8 points, 5 boards) and Sunday (15 minutes, 5 points, 3 boards)...
back then it was Sabb-Davis (21/3/5) and Gadley (18/4/5)
almost exactly the same stat lines - for both top 6 players
For those that remember - that 2006/07 team was a tough team - fun to watch and battled against some really good teams (VCU, Old Dominion, George Mason)and some really good players (JJ Barrea, Greg Minor-both played in the NBA)
They were in "rock fights" (Pecora) every CAA game in 2006/07 - and The Mack was packed - and the student section was engaged and very often a factor for the home team winning outcome!!!!
I know it is early - and I know they are a lot of moving parts to a team and a season - but the start of this season brings me back to that 2006/07 team - and I am impressed with the start of this team and hope with time they gel - even more - and give us new memories.

Re: MBB 2024-25 Roster
That is an okay point, but that post had some mistakes. Gadeson should be Gadsden, and Seskous should be Sestokas. Sabb-Davis should be Davis-Sabb. Another big was Arminas Urbutis. We had to rotate because of foul trouble. Our bigs could not stay on the court long enough to get a lot of rebounds, so Stokes led us with 5.6. Jose Juan (JJ) Barea won player of the year as a senior in 2005-2006, so we did not face him in 2006-2007. I had to think about who Greg Minor was supposed to be, and it was VCU's Eric Maynor. Maynor had the shot that beat Duke in the NCAA Tournament First Round 6-11 game. Duke is normally elite enough to get an easy First Round game, but that season they got a 6. In 23 tournaments from 1997 through 2019, Duke got a top 4 seed every time except that time. Other than that, I wonder what team had the most seeds of 4 or better in a span of 23 tournaments. George Mason had juniors Will Thomas and Folarin Campbell. Old Dominion had Valdas Vasylius have a great senior year. He averaged 30 points in his two games against us including shooting 10-12 hosting us. UNCW has led by center Vladimir Kuljanin, while T.J. Carter missed the season.
