IT's TIME

Post by HUSID74 »

That this University recognize what's going on with men's basketball and this incredible streak.

To date, the University, not including the athletic department has done NOTHING!

Here are some thoughts for starters:

1. Take out some ads recognizing the team, players coaches for the streak...Newsday a start but how about more, much more
2. Get our remaining home games on some sort of credible network...school feeds are embarrassing...evne Stony Brook gets on ESPN 3 or Plus....this is an overall conference problem but Hofstra should do something for the rest of the season.
3. Create a Hofstra branded logo or icon for the streak
3. Promote the damned remaining games with advertising...radio on the WFAN, ESPN and more...do something with the STREAK...t-shirts, other apparel
4.Get on own radio station to COVER ALL remaining games on broadcast and promote the listings...if this can't be done BUY time on another station!

5. When and IF the streak ends have a special banner raising ceremony at the Mack commemorating the STREAK and give all members of the Team a special commemorative keepsake.

Ok I've started this let's what else we should come up with...I DO plan to send this to the AD and the President...and oh by the way it would be nice for President Rabinowitz to meet with the team before the next home game and attend it!

I don’t know about the last one Jon. You don’t want to jinx the team sort of like the owner coming into the locker room in Major League

Polito posted something similar to this on the Media Thread recently...both you and he have some great ideas...time for the university to take notice of what is going on and take advantage of it which will only lead to bigger and better things for the university as a whole...

For Number 2, I'm fine with ESPN3, ESPN Plus, and school feeds that work. Our out of conference games on ESPN Plus (4 of the 6 away games) would stop and make you refresh the page at every timeout. Furthermore, I don't think there's a way to get ESPN to send announcers to Hofstra by making an agreement during the season. I agree that games should be on the radio.

I’m surprised that SNY doesn’t pick up a game or two. I’m tired of watching Mets highlights from 2015.

Totally agree HUSID. This team needs to be brought into the limelight a little bit more. It was nice to be on Bruce Becks show last night, but there is more to be done. Although I dont want to raise a banner when the streak ends, the other 4 suggestions should be addressed.

The saying "It takes money to make money" comes to mind here. If you invest in this team with an ad, or a billboard, maybe a radio spot or two.. People might be more inclined to come out to a game. Spend the money and get a game or two on television. Exposing the kids to the national market, or even local television market will definitely help on the recruiting end, but it will also help JWF get some much needed/deserved exposure.

When I was a student here, we had the nations longest or second longest home winning streak that came to an end vs. Old Dominion in the NIT. We had some really nice attendance games. With students back on campus, I hope the crowds are loud, and packed like back in the day.

This is what CofC had to do even down here where people care more about college sports. They barely did any radio/TV advertising a couple of years ago as our team was doing well for the first time in a while. They advertise on the sports stations here, and a couple other stations that are owned by the same group (a gospel station and a oldies station). Their attendance has gone up this year.

No reason Hofstra can’t buy an ad say on 98.3 out of Hempstead and advertise the upcoming games.

That year didn't we go to the semi finals of the NIT??

Please keep us up to date. Hopefully we win Saturday, and they come home to a packed out Mack

They should regardless at this point. Says a lot about the fan base if the fans don't show up because it's "only" 16 of 17 instead of 17 straight.

Yeah, but see the problem is AWARENESS - just last week in the gym, new grad wearing HU hat, NO CLUE WHATSOEVER the kind of year the team was having. He was shocked, and excited, and said man I'll def need to get to a game, had no idea!! :? :o

This is embarrassing and deplorable - the U should be ashamed of itself. This could end up being the greatest season in HU history for goodness sake, do something!

Open up the purse strings HU and start getting the word out - people will come see a winner, that is a NY fact. They just actually need to KNOW ABOUT IT.

The aloofness and lack of dedicated targeted aggressive fan engagement of this U is enough to drive us to drink LOL. It's truly unbelievable.

Stu, this is absolute gold man LOLOLOL

I got an email that we have a new Dean at the Business School from Stu today. So I guess he can't say his email doesn't work :D

That is the VERY least he could do.

Speaking of WFAN, I called Francesa about a month ago when the streak was at 10. He was clueless and during the heart of the NFL playoffs I wouldn’t expect much attention. Anyway it sure seemed like we got a lot more fans when Jenkins was leading the team. The student section was legit, the upper corners were filled (at times). Just doesn’t seem like the same amount of buzz, despite the team doing so much better. Maybe now that students are back things will be a little livelier but the crowds so far this year have been mediocre at best. How about giving out #3 T-Shirts like they did with the 22s? That would make sense. Rally towels, anything, except asking us to wear white?

The big student crowds started with the home win over St John's, and hung around until the Mo days where the team was literally stealing from the students. It had a small revival since, but nothing much.

I will say that the student body now versus then is very different. I'm still involved with Hofstra students on a regular basis, and the students now compared to even five years ago, much less 10 or 15 years ago, are not nearly the same types. Maybe for the better, academically speaking, but not exactly going to blow to roof off at a basketball game.

HH I get that sense as well. Do you think it's because there has been not much to cheer about or it's the makeup of the student body where there is just not that much interest. The next four home games will tell us because if they don't come out for this team and what it is doing they will never come out.

I think the schedule hurts more than anything. It takes a little time for the buzz to build. The streak started with 7 games OOC, which let's face it, only the diehards (like the ones on this board) mainly pay attention to. Then it continued with another 9 CAA games, 4 of which were on the road. The first 3 of those 5 home games were HU's first 3 CAA games of the season - those were played between 12/28 and 1/5, I believe, when students were on winter break. The other two home CAA games were I think, while students were still on break (on 1/17 and 1/19).

So if it can sort of be expected that people won't come out early for Nov. & Dec. OOC home games (especially against the likes of Mount St. Mary's, NC A&T or Rosemont), and all 5 CAA home games were played with students on break, when exactly could we realistically have expected the students or a big crowd to show up?

As you said, the next four games should tell a lot, because now, the students are finally back and the team is on this streak. Unfortunately, by that time though, there are only four home games left. Bottom line, the timing of the winter break and the CAA home schedule simply don't align, especially this year with those three CAA home games at the very start.

I'd expect there to be a pretty decent student section for these last four games, especially the two Saturday ones - that would have also been a good time to have two Sat. night games instead of the 4 pm starts.
