Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
If we still had football all these years, we would probably have a lot more X football players who are alumni contributing

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Guys, maybe you can look this up, but I just heard that a player who played two years at a junior college will still be eligible for four more years
If this is true, then that's another advantage to the power five schools

That's 100% accurate Stu. What's up with the App St kid ? Why in G-d's name would he want to come here ? Seems like he could do better. NY is a lot more attractive than Appalachia - lol. We need to collect our nickels, dimes and quarters and get these 2!
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
I think we need about a million bucks donated each year to our basketball team. I’m assuming we have some very wealthy Wall Street alumni.
It would help if we used Metzger’s money towards basketball. As a matter of fact, a small D2 school near me said they’d be getting rid of their athletic teams due to funds and within two weeks they received donations totaling $2 Million.
It’s almost as if Hofstra should send something out saying they can’t afford athletics anymore and then watch the donations pour in.

Not that we ever had a shot at Tanner Thomas this cycle, but he committed to Loyola Marymount so that door is officially closed now.

Unless i have missed someone, Hofstra currently has 9 players signed up for next year. Can this team even run a practice scrimmage?
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
We will have a full roster...at least three players visited this weekend. Hoping to hear some news soon.

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
The biggest problem with the roster construction at this point is that with Aranguren's departure, there doesn't seem to be another main scorer besides Cruz Davis right now. That's a lot to put on him and an extremely tough way to try to win if they can't kind find at least one, if not two, key scorers to complement Davis.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Wags - this roster would be at the bottom of America East or the NEC. How did the staff let this happen? A bizarre season is turning into an even odder off season. Hoping for the best but i am not seeing it at the moment.

Nobody doubts that they will have a "full roster". The world is full of kids that want to play basketball and receive an athletic scholarship.
The issue is the roster is complete trash and is D2 level talent wise. Worst collection of players in decades.

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
We continue to overlook a kid named Carlos Lopez who two years ago started half of the games for St Francis of PA. as a freshman and averaged 9.4 points a game. It certainly is not much of a reach to conclude reasonably that he will score in double figures here this year assuming there isn't anything major hampering his game. In one of those games he had 15 points against Campbell.Wags wrote: ↑Mon May 05, 2025 11:19 am The biggest problem with the roster construction at this point is that with Aranguren's departure, there doesn't seem to be another main scorer besides Cruz Davis right now. Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
That's rubbish. We have at minimum four kids who can play at a high level, Davis, Decady, Plotnikov and the highly rated freshman PG. We need at least one more big and a 6-5 wing who can shoot.BringBackFootball wrote: ↑Mon May 05, 2025 1:46 pmNobody doubts that they will have a "full roster". Have you looked at the Portal? Plenty of quality kids available.

Look I'm happy those 4 kids are all on the roster but talk about some rose-colored glasses. Of the 9 current players on the roster only 5 even played at the D1 level last season (Davis, Decady, German, Sunday, and Reaves). And the combined totals for those 5 aren't pretty:HUSID74 wrote: ↑Mon May 05, 2025 2:14 pmThat's rubbish. PPG: 30.1 (nearly half from Cruz)
Reb: 13.1 (nearly 30% from Cruz)
Ast: 6.3 (70% from Cruz)
Now if you want to tell me that Lopez is going to be considerably better than he was in NEC after not playing for a year, the D2 kid is gonna be as good at the D1 level, and that Edmead is gonna be the CAA Freshman of the Year than maybe we have something. But those are all GIANT ifs, as are expecting SIGNIFICANT leaps forward from German and Decady (who the staff had no clue how to use on offense last yr. Having our most explosive athlete who can't shoot stand in the corner as a spot up 3pt shooter really worked wonders).
Just for comparison, UNCW signed FOUR players who were starters in the CAA last season. Those 4 alone combined for:
PPG: 50.7
Reb: 17.2
Ast: 7.9
And those stats don't even count the big they got who averaged 11pts/11reb at Binghamton or any of their returning players or freshman. At the moment we aren't even in the same ballpark as teams in our own league. That's just unacceptable period end of story.
And sure there's plenty of quality players left in the portal, but until we sign any of them I'll continue to be skeptical. The portal landscape has changed dramatically, even from last offseason. The likes of Estrada and Thomas just aren't signing at this level anymore, not without a financial commitment we don't seem to be capable of making.
Evanmiya.com is a really good kenpom like site for anyone not familiar. He has portal class rankings for every D1 school. We currently sit at 277th, 13th out of the 14 CAA teams.

All well and good but the guy with the rose colored glasses is waiting for our FINAL roster...still at least three more to sign.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Mon May 05, 2025 6:27 pmLook I'm happy those 4 kids are all on the roster but talk about some rose-colored glasses. St. John's is 10th on that list and just got a $32.5 million donation to upgrade facilities.

We already have a great practice facility...they had virtuall nothing...the worst facilities in the Big East.cactus wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 5:08 pmdutchPride86 wrote:
