Loved Colin and he was always very transparent but now I'm sure everything will be TOP SECRET!

Isn’t there a billionaire out here who can buy us a center and two forwards? Maybe change our name to ‘St John’s University, Hofstra Campus’?

Yeah it's a shame that money is always the root of all evils but we need to be getting some European players in the fold here. IDK why that pipeline dried up.

So much to my dismay I'm reading in the Newsday yeah that paper how St John's has the #1 recruiting class in the country according to 247sports. I wonder where that leaves us??

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
This is Josh Hayes freshman year stats at Appalachian State. Clearly both these kids would be an upgrade as to what we have landed so far IMO BUT what are our chances of getting these kids? https://appstatesports.com/sports/mens- ... hayes/8469
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
At least there is some activity...Speedy, don't let these kids leave without signing with us!
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Speedy still has the Estrada path to sell. He can recruit, that doesn't change just because Sanders didn't work out.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
"Northwest Florida (JUCO) F Joshua Hayes [6-10 SO] and USF G Kameren Wright [6-6 FR] will both take visits to Hofstra this weekend, their agent Larry Hall of @HofSportsGroup tells TPR!"
Hall describes himself as a "sports business manager, NIL advisor and portal agent":
https://www.instagram.com/larryhalloffame/
So now, transferring athletes have agents to help them negotiate (in more ways than one) the transfer portal?
BTW, the "Hof Sports Group" stands for "Hall of Fame," not "Hofstra." Their website (https://hofsportsgroup.com/) says:
OUR RELATIONSHIPS HELP PLAYERS AND THEIR FAMILIES NAVIGATE THE OPPORTUNITIES IN FRONT OF THEM, FIND NEW ONES, AND CREATE FOR THEM THE TIME AND SPACE TO FOCUS ON SCHOOL + SPORTS.
WE OFFER SERVICES THAT INCLUDE TRANSFER PORTAL MANAGEMENT, BRAND SPONSORSHIPS, ENDORSEMENTS, CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS, DRAFT PREP, TAX PREPARATIONS, SOCIAL MEDIA TRAINING, MARKETING, PHILANTHROPY. WHATEVER THE ATHLETE IS LOOKING FOR, WE FOCUS ON PROVIDING IT.
No other info is given. Guess this is the new age of college recruiting.

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Doesn't matter how well he can recruit if there's no money behind it for the players.
Case in point our bigs situation. We've obviously had more success with bigs transferring down (Graham, Nelson BY, Kante, Jaq Taylor) than up (Fritz), but based on the recent names would seem like that may be out of Hofstras price range now. In addition to this juco kid, we've also reportedly reached out to a big from Wagner. He was a starter but underwhelming stats:

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Yes. Almost every player does. It's how someone like Aranguren winds up backing out and leaving and why many schools are creating GM positions to deal with that full time. And not just power schools. Iona has a GM, hell even Hampton just added the GM title as a promotion for one of their assistant coaches today.
It sucks, but either Hofstra gets with the times or will be completely left behind (if it hasn't already)
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
If he can find that kind of transfer. With the portal movement, NIL, and player agents, those kind of opportunities - which were already difficult to find when they got Estrada - are even tougher to find now (especially when it's already May). Speedy's birthday is a week from today. Maybe he'll be able to give himself a nice present with a good signing or two somehow.

NIL existed last year too, they got guys who could play.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 1:23 pmDoesn't matter how well he can recruit if there's no money behind it for the players.
other than some rich alumni swooping in, anyone have any ideas to at least compete in the conference for recruits?

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
It has to come from the athletic dept. Early days of NIL were just rich boosters, now everything is being organized through the schools, regardless of who's technically signing a check. Why else would so many programs be hiring GMs.cactus wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 3:56 pmNIL existed last year too, they got guys who could play.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 1:23 pmDoesn't matter how well he can recruit if there's no money behind it for the players.

Plus once the revenue sharing goes through, which the entire CAA opted in to, schools will be directly paying players.
It's a completely different landscape from even 2 years ago
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
I don’t think there is. The only opportunity would be a large engaged fan base for crowds and small donations - engage with local businesses who find value in sponsorships and most important - engage with ultra wealthy alumni for the collective. We’d realistically need 10-20 donors donating 25k-100k each.cactus wrote:NIL existed last year too, they got guys who could play.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 1:23 pmDoesn't matter how well he can recruit if there's no money behind it for the players.
