I believe that when the dust settles, we will have a respectable roster...good to see that Plotnikov is "officially" back as he is a great leader both on and off the court...maybe he has one or twoEuropean friendshe can convince to come to Hofstra.Wags wrote: ↑Wed Apr 23, 2025 10:18 amNot in this particular landscape though. Although the portal/NIL existed before, last year was really the first year that we've started to see that in ways that blew up across the sport - and although Cruz and Jean were pretty good, Sanders was a bust they had a big drop-off overall last year.
I hope I'm wrong but I don't think we can look to what they've done before with success and think that will necessarily translate to doing the same now. It feels like because of the increased player movement and the money being thrown around even more than before, they could be left without any great options this year (which, it seems, is why they tapped someone like Boyd, from Pace).

Sounds like, A.J. Wills, a 6-2, 180-pound guard is transferring to HU from Wyoming.
Only played 18 mpg and scored 4.8 ppg on a Wyoming team that went 12-20 this past season. He did shoot 42.9% from 3 during the year on a limited number (1.9) of 3-pt FGA.

Here are some of his stats from Holy Cross where he played as a freshman. https://goholycross.com/sports/mens-bas ... ills/14725

I don't know if NCAA rules have changed in terms of scholarships from 13-15 but if not we only have 3 left and don't have much size on this team.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Don't forget, D-Stone at this point has no eligibility. He has entered the portal hoping the NCAA grants everyone a 5th year.triplec2195 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 6:31 pm D-Stone just entered the portal and who knows could there be a reunion?? Stranger things have happened although unlikely!
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Except for Sunday there is little size at all. This is always a problem with this team. Speedy keeps recruiting himself. What is this coaching staff thinking?

The thinking I'm sure is that although we need bigs they're difficult to land. Bigs are at a high premium.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
We still have 6'8" Decady - a little weight work and he could be a force
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Triplec - other CAA teams seem to do okay in the bigs department. We are always small. We have AE or NEC size at best.

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
So while Campbell is signing a 6'6 sr who averaged nearly 17ppg and shot 39% from 3 in the America East this is what we're doing.
Sorry to be debbie downer again, but I continue to be completely underwhelmed and disappointed by this class, especially in context to what every other "competitive" CAA team has done. Transferring down from a bad Mt West or Missouri Valley school is not close to the same thing as like getting an Estrada from Oregon or Dubar from Iowa St

I didn't even bother listing it because it was more of the same (5.5 ppg in 15.9 mpg on a team that went 10-23). So, two years at two different stops of only a bit of production off the bench on two very bad teams. Not a lot there to get excited about.triplec2195 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 6:42 pmHere are some of his stats from Holy Cross where he played as a freshman. https://goholycross.com/sports/mens-bas ... ills/14725

Watched a video of him with Wyoming. He*s quick. Good passer. Can hit the three.

The thing is that freshman stats can be telling because some freshman never see the floor much but in reality this kid earned 16 minutes a game which ok you can point to the quality of the team but he compares favorably to Jaquan Carlos in JC 'S first two years while getting far less minutes to JC in his sophomore season. He was in double digits in 6 games one was against Boston College in his freshman year so I'd like to look at this optimistically especially his 3 point shooting percentage.Wags wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 5:21 amI didn't even bother listing it because it was more of the same (5.5 ppg in 15.9 mpg on a team that went 10-23). People here should look at Lopez' stats also which were quite good as a freshman almost averaging 10 points a game. He could very well be a kid that's going to get plenty of minutes this season.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Agree TripleC, we are assembling some talent. I am concerned about the lack of depth and size in the front court...hopefully the next few signings will adress that issue.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Wonder what's up with the 6-10 UMass transfer Shahid Muhammed who visited us last week...He's from Queens and Verbal Commits has not listed a new school for him.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
A lot better chance that Lopez contributes a lot more than Wills. That was a bad Wyoming team and Wills couldn't really make a jump at all from his first year numbers at Holy Cross. I always hope for the best with any HU player, but that doesn't inspire a lot of confidence if you're being objective rather than optimistic in a wishful-thinking way. And when you compare that and HU's other pickups (so far), plus the loss of Jean, to what other top CAA teams have either assembled or retained, it still falls well short at this point. They still have a LOT of work to do, which is tougher to do at this stage, post-portal.triplec2195 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 11:50 amThe thing is that freshman stats can be telling because some freshman never see the floor much but in reality this kid earned 16 minutes a game which ok you can point to the quality of the team but he compares favorably to Jaquan Carlos in JC 'S first two years while getting far less minutes to JC in his sophomore season. W&M joining the Patriot League for the 2026 football season. That could set a stage down the road for a possible move to the same league for Tribe basketball if they aren't able to compete with hoops in the CAA with NIL and the portal.

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Good find Wags, I suspect that the CAA will continue to decline. Do you know what Hofstra will do? Nothing, as usual.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Could be a useful addition. Three schools in three years. A shot-blocker. One of eight Minutemen in the portal:
https://dailycollegian.com/2025/04/umas ... er-portal/
Shahid Muhammad
"As another member of UMass’ big man rotation, Muhammad appeared in 31 games, starting in three. In 12.5 minutes, he averaged 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds. Muhammad made his presence known in the paint on the defensive end, leading the Minutemen in blocks per game with 1.5. The junior had seven games with seven or more rejections, but none came in the back third of the season."
Looks like he has some offensive skills. Our coaches could design some plays for him:
