Agree with all of this. The presidential debates are always great to host if you can. It's an honor. To actually host three was great. The med school and engineering schools, and maintaining its solid rep with its law school are all great. That said, 196, tied with UNCW, when UNCW is now considerably past HU in men's hoops isn't great either. Either be in the top 100 if that's the case or find a way to balance an endowment that is 5-6 times that of UNCW's to compete better in HU's flagship sport. since as you and other have mentioned here, enrollment is only helped when major sports are also excelling.

They've managed to win a lot despite being forced to change head coaches a few times in recent years. And it's also one of the best mid-major - even overall, throughout college hoops - homecourt environments to play in front of. If Jean plays significant minutes and produces well there, they'll will absolutely love him there.Pbdutch wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 8:00 pmThey’re a good team. They were a 10 seed in the Tourney and Wilmington was a 14. Crazy! I was just curious and looked up what the Utah state basketball coach makes and it wasn’t like he had a tremendous record prior as he was the coach at Youngstown state.
His base salary was increased from his first year in 2024 to 1.85MIL next year. I know that’s a salary that’s way above any CAA coach salary, but it shows Utah State is invested in sports now preventing him from leaving.
Curious-does anyone know what Speedy’s salary is? Hofstra posts absolutely nothing and I’d be curious to hear what his deal is…
That's also what I was saying before, that he didn't need to necessarily go to a power league to not return to Hofstra, he could've gone somewhere in between that's a step up. The MWC is exactly that. And he'll have a great chance to dance with them.
Utah St was indeed just a visit. Araranguren has committed to George Washington. He'll do well in the A10, and still enough of a step up for him where hard to hold any grudges. Just wish we knew what happened with the initial public announcement of his return. Ugh oh well. Good luck to him I guess

Pretty funny since I talk with my old neighbor about college hoops. He's a longtime GW alum and fan, so I can tell him all about Jean.
GW kept a lot of their guys. Will be interesting to see how he fits in with the chemistry there.

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
He needs to improve his 3 pt shooting dramatically
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Problem is too many times he goes into the paint and gets "lost". He's also going to have a lot tougher time scoring inside in the A10.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
True, but that may also have been a function of not having good targets in the rights spots to pass to after collapsing the D on him. Those targets may be better with GW. We'll see how it goes. At minimum, he'll be making more money and will be on a bit of a bigger stage.ZMAN3 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 1:23 pmProblem is too many times he goes into the paint and gets "lost". How much will he be making?

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Good for Kijan. That's a good place for him and good place to go to school. Hope he thrives and enjoys his time in New Hampshire.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Definitely different from tropical Florida.
I wish him the best.
So KJ and Farmer are now both in the America East. They will not only face each other, but also Ace Flagg, Cooper's twin brother, who will be playing for UMaine. Too bad Kvonn Cramer exhausted his eligibility at Bryant. Otherwise they would go up against him, too.

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
So the portal closes today, and we have what 9 players on the roster best case (anyone have any idea if German is gonna get an extra yr)?
If the likes of Parnell, Farmer, and KJ have all found homes, doesn't exactly inspire much confidence that there's much still out there. And I think you could make the argument that neither of the players we brought in so far are on paper any better than those 3, let alone finding a replacement for Aranguren.
Even Stony Brook was able to land two double digit D1 scorers this week... 13 ppg leading scorer from a 20 win Nicholls team and a kid who averaged 10 ppg at 20 win Milwaukee (6'4 and 6'5 sr guards respectively). And they also grabbed a 7 footer from Wyoming recently.
All I ask is that we're competitive in the portal with the rest of the CAA, and that just doesn't seem to be happening

The Portal is still loaded with talented players without homes...check out verbalcommits.com and see for yourself.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 1:02 pm So the portal closes today, and we have what 9 players on the roster best case (anyone have any idea if German is gonna get an extra yr)?

So what are they waiting for? And why should we have any confidence they can afford anyone of any significance after what happened with Aranguren and who theyve reportedly reached out to so far?HUSID74 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 1:05 pmThe Portal is still loaded with talented players without homes...check out verbalcommits.com and see for yourself.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 1:02 pm So the portal closes today, and we have what 9 players on the roster best case (anyone have any idea if German is gonna get an extra yr)?

Because we've done it every other year.

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
A lot of constant talk here about German's eligibility. He has been listed on our roster on gohofstra for quite a while now so I think we can now put this to bed!!
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Not in this particular landscape though. Although the portal/NIL existed before, last year was really the first year that we've started to see that in ways that blew up across the sport - and although Cruz and Jean were pretty good, Sanders was a bust they had a big drop-off overall last year.
I hope I'm wrong but I don't think we can look to what they've done before with success and think that will necessarily translate to doing the same now. It feels like because of the increased player movement and the money being thrown around even more than before, they could be left without any great options this year (which, it seems, is why they tapped someone like Boyd, from Pace).

Jaquan Carlos is back in the portal. Amar'e Marshall didn't want to return but maybe Carlos would?

Like Kalen Deboer told his players - the grass ISN’T greener. These kids are getting horrible advice from their respective “managers”. Dubar, Carlos - both with limited playing time or subpar performance with new respective teams. Unfortunate.Wags wrote:Jaquan Carlos is back in the portal. Carlos has also played four years but he's in the portal just in case (even though the portal closed yesterday!), I guess depending on the outcome of the settlement. All of that seems so gray. It's hard to know who has eligibility and who doesn't with some guys anymore. But there are a lot of guys seemingly without eligibility left who entered the portal just in case the settlement outcome goes their way, I suppose. The whole system is crazy.
