What's funny is some of the people complaining today about it (I don't mean you) are the same who said players should be played before this all started. I remember saying back then, be careful what you wish for.daHUPride wrote: ↑Sun Apr 06, 2025 2:18 pmLOL
so true - this has become one of the top stupid things in (college) sports.
it used to be a fun time - when we could all birddog as if we were scouting and recruiting a nice player or two to complete our roster - now it's about replenishing an entire roster - and seems like us - the mid-majors have to just wait and see - what scraps are left over from dinner table of the bigger conference(s) - don't like it at all

Wags, Thanks for the correction on the portal ending date.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
I get it WAGS - I totally get it - I am one of them that said players "should be able to get paid" - and I also think players should be free to go/transfer openly and freely - without ever envisioning the amount money schools/alum/sponsors are willing/able to pay these student athletes and frequency of players moving from program to programWags wrote: ↑Sun Apr 06, 2025 3:23 pmWhat's funny is some of the people complaining today about it (I don't mean you) are the same who said players should be played before this all started. The way it is now - I can certainly see fan bases dwindling, and become more professional-like in their fan base (= Corporate as opposed to individuals) - I already bailed on my football season tickets to a Big 10 school - because I felt as a loyal fan who for years - a fan that bought tickets/ modestly donated/ showed in person and supported for (almost) all the games - was being asked to donate more and MORE - to allow the school to compete for players/ NIL and new stadium - they are asking me to pay more to and prove my years of loyalty to the team/program and school - to buy a player that is not likely to be loyal/ a player that already is going to school for free (athletic scholarship) and watching that player pull up to play his game in a nicer car then I will ever be able to purchase.
I will always be a supporter of my alum - Hofstra - and the basketball team - can't see me bailing on them as I did the previously mentioned football program - but the product that we will be putting on the floor will be harder to embrace in this current system
NCAA- and Colleges - good luck (as you said - "be careful what you wish for") getting that Genie Back in the Bottle.

Interesting post from Goodman on the salary range for players at the power schools. Bench players are likely getting $200-$700K, and starters base $500K+. Do we even have the resources to pay the entire roster that much?

Estrada didn't get close to that at Alabama per an interview that was done with him. Said he got in the 200K range but maybe like baseball everything has gotten overinflated!! Ruining college sports IMO!!
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Estrada was offered 800k to play at Cincinnati. He opted to play for far less - 300k range at Bama to play on a contending team for exposure with a great coach.triplec2195 wrote:Estrada didn't get close to that at Alabama per an interview that was done with him. It's sickening what has happened to college sports. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. So called amateur sports has evolved into this mess.
Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
It’s sickening and totally ruining it. Just look at the Tennessee quarterback thats not showing up because he wants a raise lol. Has a guaranteed 2.4MIL but wants in the 4MIL range so his agents are speaking with the school. He’s basically holding out until something happens.triplec2195 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 11, 2025 2:48 pm It's sickening what has happened to college sports. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Hopefully Trump will put an end to this garbage

PG who led his team in minutes, scoring and assists. Can mentor our FR recruit.
Vargas went to Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School (a.k.a. WHEELS high school) in Manhattan. Looks like a gritty, NYC kid who wants to play at a higher level. We have plenty of openings. Sign him up!

"Albert Vargas 5-11, Point Guard, WHEELS, Class of 2021 - A guard that uses his quickness to his advantage and is able to get past his defender with no problem. Has many ways to score, including jumpers and driving to the basket. Is very strong defensively, as he knows how to pick apart the opposition for the ball."

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
I'm not saying this kid can't play or that there arent quality players in D2. But 5'10 160 and based on his own highlight package no ability to finish with both hands... that's an NEC player not a CAA player. But this really isn't about this kid specifically.
Just don't try to sell me on D2 kids when UNCW poached 3 potential all league players from other CAA schools, Charleston stole a guy who's already 1st team CAA, and Towson found the money to retain the POY.
If Hofstra can't (or choses no to be) financially competitive with other teams in their own conference, then drop back down to the MAAC/America East/NEC level, stop charging $25 for tickets (not to mention $20-$30 a month to stream the games) and move back into the PFC. At the rate they're going they might not even be able to fill that gym

Dutchpride-isn’t it sad that we are even mentioning dropping down to even lower D1 conferences. It’s not like the CAA is anything special, plus most schools look to elevate themselves and here we are talking about going down to the NEC. Can’t make this stuff up. Sooooo sad and again why I’ve been so frustrated because when he had the teams the last 5-6 years we didn’t take advantage of it to go to a better conference and now we’re stuckdutchPride86 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 13, 2025 2:05 pm I'm not saying this kid can't play or that there arent quality players in D2.
