A big 17-10 conference win today over a longtime rival. We are tied with Towson at 3-0. Fairfield lost its first game of the season today and stands at 2-1. Everyone else is 1-2 or worse:

https://caasports.com/standings.aspx?path=mlax

The whole team contributed to our victory over Delaware. We managed to win 10 draws against one of the best faceoff units in the country, and Shea Kennedy, our redshirt freshman goalie, turned away 17 shots. Both of these achievements were the result of our team defense, which has improved game-by-game.

Our offense is hard to defend because we have many scorers. Today, eight players scored -- and none of them was named Trevor Natalie, our third-leading scorer. But that's OK, because we got two goals from Joey DeYoung, another R-FR. We also got three goals from our defense: SSDM Chris Barry had the first two goals of his HU career and LSM Will Delaney scored on an open net from midfield!

The rest of our CAA schedule won't be easy, but I think this team is up for the challenge.

Here are today's highlights:

Watched most of the game. Key was us getting a big lead then holding on and then closing it out with a late flurry of goals. This has to be our best men's lacrosse team in years.
Nice to see us beat up on the departing Delaware Blue Hens!

Nice recognition. When was the last time this program even sniffed at a national ranking?

Newsday just issued its Top 100 Men's HS lacrosse players.
Numerous players committed to St. John's and Stony Brook with ony ONE committing to Hofstra...Looks like we've ceded the Island to other schools.

I wouldn't say we are ceding LI to other schools. I would say we are addressing reality.

Hofstra is probably LI's most expensive school. Adding SBU to the CAA didn't help our recruiting efforts here. And most players still want to "go away" (many to the Ivies and NCAAT teams). So we are casting our recruiting net far and wide.

From what I know, next year's class is loaded with talent. If they lived on LI, several of our incoming players would have made this list.

Meanwhile, I am glad to see we have found another faceoff specialist. One of our guys this year is hurt and another graduates. We have another western FO player coming in next year, so Nico Ghicas from Half Hollow Hills will give us three. Newsday says of Nico, "While the senior’s most significant contribution comes at the X where he won 76% of his faceoffs last spring, Ghicas possesses the talent to stay on the field as a midfielder. The fifth-year varsity starter and Hofstra commit had 15 points and scooped up 62 ground balls in his junior season."

As a freshman, Nico was a Suffolk County Rookie of the Year (I don't know how many there were), and he previously committed to Air Force.

Thanks JOjo for your input. Still frustrating to see all this talent either leave the Island or go to SBU and actually St. John's, which is also a private school.

I understand, HUSID. Let's see what these players do next year.

FYI, to anyone interested in watching tomorrow's game @ Fairfield, it's available free on YouTube starting at 12 noon:

Every time i get encouraged Hofstra lays an egg. Careless, lackadaisical, sloppy play leads to a 9-3 deficit at the half. This team is being outplayed, out classed, out hustled, and out coached. Why do I bother?

Oh, if anyone gives a hoot at this point. Hofstra lost 14 - 10.

We are 3-1 in the CAA, tied for first place. Best in a long time...plenty of us give a "hoot."

I was a road game against the best team in the CAA. Also Fairfield plays at the very fast pace similar to how John Danowskis teams at Hofstra played.
lets see how the rest of the season plays out.
Difference this year is we are winning the one goal games.
Our shooters are also more accurate.
This is a different team than the one that lost to Siena 17-11

Fair response HUSID74 and Stu. Venting my frustrations with the awful play in the first half not to mention the last 5 or 7 years as well. Still not sold on this team, but will hope for the best.

We came out flat yesterday and paid the price. Too many unforced mistakes. We played better in the second half, but needed more. Meanwhile, Fairfield is having its best season in 10 years.

We're still in the running for the CAA playoffs, and hold tiebreakers over Delaware and Stony Brook. We are also playing without the transfer goalie who was going to be our starter and a reliable faceoff specialist. Both are out for the season with injuries. Thrust into a starting role, R-FR goalie Shea Kennedy has more than held his own.

Only two more home games on the schedule, including Drexel next Saturday at 1:00.

Keep the faith, Dutch Nation!

Just when you think this team has shown something, they have a poor start versus Fairfield last week to drop that game. They follow that awful start with an even worse one this afternoon. Team was out of this game after the first few minutes.

There is no excuse for the last two games
Truthfully, this game was worse than Fairfield
They got beat early on the same type of shots and made no adjustments whatsoever
I know that help is on the way in next year's class, but I don't have faith that this team will turn it around this year
