Would love to see us to add a really strong recruiter to our staff. Or maybe bring Serge Clement back from GMU?

Trae Young hired as Oklahoma's assistant GM after donating $1 million to the program.Wags wrote: ↑Wed Mar 26, 2025 5:27 pmIt will become more and more common now that players are getting paid. It'll be the same as GM's for pro teams. Schools are also tapping people with GM experience now - St. Bonaventure with Wojnarowski (not that he had prior GM experience, but that was a big one), Iona (although they are only able to afford that because of wealthy father of their new head coach coming from the Cleveland Cavs), and Utah with a former Sacramento Kings assistant GM becoming their program's GM.The Shadow wrote: ↑Wed Mar 26, 2025 4:39 pm With Colin Curtain leaving HU Basketball for LaSalle, will HU basketball add a General Manager position? Iona has just added the position along with their new head coach. Maybe this is the new organization of a basketball coaching staff in the NIL era.
But like paying players NIL money, only the schools that can afford will be able to hire a pro-like GM to run that. And if you can't afford to do either or both, you may get left behind in the race to lure the best players you can land.
Maybe Speedy would like a similar role in addition to remaining the head coach?

Pace, we cant do better than pulling kids from Pace now?! I know D2 strategy worked at places like Drake and UC San Diego, but man...Wags wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 10:17 am Bringing in Trey Boyd III, from Pace:

That's only one. Let's see where the others come from. Leaving no stone unturned is exactly what they should be doing. Sometimes players are overlooked. From the clip below, Boyd has a smooth shot whether catch-and-shoot or off the dribble, and seems to have deep range. Way too soon to judge any moves until the entire roster is completed and to then see how that pans out next season.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 12:57 pmPace, we cant do better than pulling kids from Pace now?! This will be happening more and more. As D1 options dry up in this landscape, schools and the level of Hofstra and Siena will need to look at D2. There
is more D2 talent that can succeed in D1 than people realize. And sometimes, it's better to get a hungry D2 player with something to prove than a D1 player who needs to be prodded.

This is inevitable when the D1 market becomes thin the schools who r most resourceful in finding the gems out there will be the most successful. D1, D2 and Jucos and throw in prep school tested HS players into the mix. Years ago UNCW had a walk on that became a scholarship player from I believe D2 who helped beat us in the CAA finals. I think he became their leading scorer. We have to exhaust all possibilities

You are spot-on, TripleC. The kids leaving Maryland are not going to come here. We will attract some D1 and international players, but we will also have to find some D2 and juco players with D1 potential and coach 'em up.triplec2195 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 5:38 pm This is inevitable when the D1 market becomes thin the schools who r most resourceful in finding the gems out there will be the most successful. Trey Boyd III is aptly named. He is a pure 3-point shooter:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAapP0TV6DE
In his only year at Pace, Boyd led the Setters in 3PFGM with 75 treys (OK, had to say it once) and shot 50% or better from behind the arc 13 times:
https://paceuathletics.com/sports/mens- ... d-iii/8509
He has good size (6-4) and makes legitimate NBA threes.
Boyd played one year (2023-24) at the College of Saint Rose and shot 44% from the field. St. Rose closed and filed for bankruptcy in 2024. Mike DiPaoli played his college ball at St. Rose.
On X, Boyd is quoted as saying, "I want to THANK Coach @SpeedDeamon for opportunity to join an already historic program. Thank Coach @S_Doyle24 for helping recruit me. And THANKS to Coaches Mike Depaoli, Tom Parrotta & the entire @HofstraMBB coaching staff for welcoming me. LET’S WORK!"
I do not know Shane Doyle, our coordinator of video and player development, but he has an interesting D2/juco background that could help us find more players like Boyd:

Welcome to Hofstra, Trey!

This is probably the connection and why Hofstra knew to look Boyd's way for recruiting.
And this may have contributed.

Re: 2025-26 MBB
Will fit right in.

But seriously, 36.8% from 3 isn't bad at all. Not great, but still pretty solid. Of course, we don't know if that would go up, down, or be about the same in D1.
But for comparison, from 3:
Jalen Ray: 39.0%
Eli Pemberton: 38.7%
Wright-Foreman: 38.6%
Cruz Davis: 37.0% (38.8% at Hofstra)
Desure Buie: 36.2% (but 41.7% in his last year)
Jean Aranguren: 35.9% (34.2% at Hofstra)
Tyler Thomas: 35.5% (but 40.5% and 37.1% at Hofstra)
Boyd was 43.5% from 2, which you'd like to see 4-5 points higher. Maybe that could improve.

Agreed thought I might have seen this somewhere. We also had another D3 transfer in Hunter Sabety who played two seasons here from 2016-18 a transfer from Tufts and gave us quality minutes. A true shot blocker.Wags wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 7:55 pmWas mentioned in another thread earlier - Chris Flemmings.triplec2195 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 01, 2025 5:38 pm This is inevitable when the D1 market becomes thin the schools who r most resourceful in finding the gems out there will be the most successful. Re: 2025-26 MBB
Forgot about him! He played hard. That's an advantage of picking up guys like that. They have something to prove at the D1 level, so they play with a chip on their shoulder and with good intensity.triplec2195 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 6:07 amAgreed thought I might have seen this somewhere. So team posted a couple photos of players practicing today. First 2 pictures are clearly Cruz and DeCady (starting top left), and the 4th I think is Amir Williams? Anyone know who the 3rd photo is though? Looks a lot like KJ but he transferred

Re: 2025-26 MBB
Well, the semester is not over yet, so It could be KJ. And until another school offers him a scholarship, he's still on our team.

That's fair. School has already updated the roster though to reflect '25-26 and took KJ and all the guys who transferred and graduated off (and advanced the year for the returnees). Interestingly enough, German is still listed as one of the 6 current guys on the roster, maybe he will or already did get a waiver for a 5th yr. That would be big

How come our incoming freshman isn't listed on the new roster
Re: 2025-26 MBB
Preston Edmead? He's still in prep school. Not at HU yet.
Odd that HU has posted NEXT YEAR'S roster already. Maybe that's a new NCAA rule (i.e., remove players who are in the portal)?
As for Plotnikov's waiver status ... who knows? I would think HU would announce it once it comes through.
Here's a new article on these waivers:
