This is who I see as possibly coaching candidates. I think this list is more legit and has decent names attached:

Some possible names for the job include Van Macon (St. John’s), Rob Jones (Norfolk State), James Jones (Yale), Mike Hopkins (former Washington coach), Kimani Young (UConn), Brandin Knight (Rutgers) and Bruiser Flint (Arkansas).

Rutgers in the NIT was a W. The Arkansas W was nice as well. Blew out a ranked South Florida team and a W over a Princeton team that went to Sweet Sixteen or deeper. You are being a little harsh.

From your X post:

Hearing the following names for the Fordham Basketball Head Coach opening per sources.

- Hofstra HC Speedy Claxton
- Quinnipiac HC Tom Pecora
- Kent State HC Rob Senderoff
- Central Connecticut St. HC Pat Sellers
Shows you bad fordham is. Even with being in the A10 these are the names that pop up lol. Again, let’s be real here, speedy hasn’t gotten us to the dance and hasn’t won close games that matter…and Pat sellers was an absolute joke being on cassara’s staff. Hell, fordham athletics are way worse than Hofstra. They might as well just get rid of their sports teams
I don't live too far from CCSU, so have actually watched their season end in person each of last 2 years. Sellers has done a remarkable job turning that program around from literally one of the 20 worst in D1 to an NEC power. They play in a glorified high school gym that makes the old PFC look nice.

But they've choked bad losing at HOME 2 years in a row in NEC tourney (semis and finals) to inferior opponents by playing their worst offensive games of the year (What are the odds of attending 4 cbb games this yr and in 2 neither team cracked 50!? 49-48 seton hall game and a 46-43 NEC title game. Lol). But back to Sellers, just not sure hes ready for a jump to the A10. If Hofstra job opens before Sellers does move on from CCSU, I'm sure his name would get mentioned here though.

As for Speedy, hard to take that rumor seriously.

I don't see it either -- especially for Pecora (why would either side consider that after how that went the first time?) -- neither does Rivals' Richie O'Leary, who posted that. But that's what he's been told.

Why would Forham not consider Tobin Anderson before that list?

I can't see Speedy leaving - and certainly not for the Fordham job. Anyone and everyone from NY Metro area knows it's a dead end job. You take the money and hope and pray you can last a few years - your bank account improves and hopefully your coaching reputation survives. TP the classic case!

Guys-bringing this thread back to life. Let’s say we don’t have a good year next year with our BBall team…hope I’m totally wrong and I’m going to stay positive, but what happens if we don’t.

Does Speedy call it a night? Does Hofstra actually fire a guy like speedy Clayton? I don’t see that…but curious what our other die hard and other board members think about this?

No way he's fired - nor should he be - unless it's something unrelated to basketball - and that's not happening either!

I wouldn't even count that one. Welsh basically fired himself.

Agree, he's not going anywhere unless he decides himself that he's had enough at some point because this NIL/portal deal isn't what he signed up for (which it isn't) and he finds that HU simply can't compete because of the money. Even then, he may decide to try to see it through for a while because it's his dream job and his dream to get his school back to where it was when he played for them and to where it was when he was the assistant on the 2020 title team.

Agreed here. Not to mention, with the NIL issues this job is nowhere near what it once was as a quality midmajor stepping stone. I think we'd be hard-pressed to find any inspiring quality candidates to replace him without a significant investment in NIL (like UNCW promised and seems to have immediately delivered on in order to keep Siddle from bolting)

NIL and immediate transfers are destroying college sports, especially at our level.

Just because you pay your players does not guarantee that you will win. On any given day, half of all teams lose.

Most high school students would be thrilled to receive a full ride to college. Today, education seems to be an afterthought for many student- athletes. I wonder if they consider themselves to be students at all? Or are they just entertainers?

Very true. I posted something a while back in another thread somewhere with the top 100 NIL earners. Many weren't on top teams and many of those weren't even on NCAA tourney teams. So yeah, NIL money guarantees nothing. However, by the same token, if you don't spend, you likely don't have a real chance to compete. Forget even at a national level, even within a league like the CAA, the ones who'll be at the top are schools that will spend (see UNCW, Charleston, Towson right now), and the ones that can't spend will be relegated to the middle of the pack or bottom of a conference like that.

Sadly, it seems so. Not for all, but for many. Even if they aren't likely to go pro, they will still be looking at any situation they're in as a potential steppingstone to a better situation and making more money in the process until they've exhausted their eligibility. Can't really blame them for that. It's just smart business on their part and taking advantage of a situation that's good for them personally while being worse for the sport as a whole.

Given the head coach's nickname, isn't there some kind of deal for NIL money that Hofstra men's hoops can work out with Speedy gas stations?

Okay, yeah I guess it's called Speedway but the rewards are called Speedy Rewards. Maybe they can work out a sponsorship deal.
