Just to watch this team as opposed to last years team you can see they're a better team which is not always going to show in the box score or in stats. We're getting a few more rebounds a game and turning the ball over a few turnovers less. If Corbett was healthy our record would be a bit different. She changes the game on both ends of the court although she has to get better from the FT line. We have a lot more depth on this team and as the season progresses we have seen more kids getting some minutes. If Sterling was able to play yesterday I bet we would have won that game.stuball888 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 8:30 am The inept offense has to be addressed
Last year we scored 56.6 points per game
This much improved team is only scoring 57.8 per game this year
Where is the great improvement?

Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
Yesterday we played Delaware a team we beat on the road 63-57 0n January 5th but having to play this game without Sterling proved to be too much although Hofstra battled in this game. I think that Keita has become the unsung hero of this team, a rebounding monster who can score block shots etc. She tied the game in regulation with the clock running out and after both teams could only muster 5 points each in O/T Delaware prevailed 73-65 in the 2nd O/T. This was a tough game to lose especially on our court. Keita led us with 14 pts. shooting 6-11 and 12 rebounds a block and a steal. Emma and Swint had 12 each. Emma scoring 9 of those points in the first half and really having a tough shooting game after that finishing 4-18 2-12. Swint also had 8 rebounds. Fargo who has been steady had 9 points on 4-9 shooting with 4 boards. We got 7 points from Corbett who endured a tough 25 minutes and fouled out in the 2nd O/T. Her 7 turnovers hurt as we turned the ball over 25X proving to be our undoing as Delaware scored 24 points off of our T/O. We had 49 rebounds to their 44 and had 17 second chance points to their 11 helping to keep us in this game. We need to get all our players healthy and on the court at the same time. This will eventually be a competitive team come CAA tourney.

Just a total frustration with a team that looked like it could make waves but injuries to key people have hurt us.
Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
A day after the men ended their six game losing streak, the women ended their seven game losing streak with a 57-54 win hosting Monmouth with an attendance of 610. Monmouth led early, and we took our first lead in the second quarter. Micaela Carter made a three with 2:16 left to go up 8, but Monmouth went on an 8-0 run, and tied the game with 5 seconds left. Emma Von Essen did not wait to guarantee us the final shot, and made a three with 2.3 seconds left. Carter blocked Monmouth's attempt at a tying three. https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/2/23/wo ... layed.aspx is our recap titled "Von Essen’s Clutch Three Lifts Hofstra Past Monmouth; Swint Becomes All-Time Program-Leader for Games Played." Congratulations to Zyheima Swint for breaking our record. https://gohofstra.com/sports/womens-bas ... core/13371 is the box score. Swint led all players with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and led us with 35 minutes. We shot threes 7-13, and Monmouth shot them 2-14.

Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
Thanks for the post Evan was becoming major frustrated with this team and this was a good win but should have been easier too many turnovers especially at the end of the game. Corbett played but a few minutes of this game before having to leave injured again. Chloe Sterling has now been ruled out for the season with a knee injury and had missed the last 6 games. She was our leading scorer. Such a shame this team healthy could have done some real damage now its the next person up situation. https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/2/24/wo ... eason.aspx

https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/3/2/wom ... t-win.aspx is titled "Lockdown Defense Leads Hofstra in 20-Point Win." We won 54-34, which is our fewest points allowed to a CAA team, and our fewest points allowed to a Division I team since a 61-34 win at St. John's on November 23, 2001. W&M led 8-7 after one quarter, and scored 10 or fewer in every quarter. We led 28-24 and ended on a 26-10 run. https://gohofstra.com/sports/womens-bas ... core/13375 is the box score. The attendance was 1,204 at W&M's Senior Day. We are 7-9 in the CAA.

Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
We are playing well without really two of our starters and approx. 23 points a game lost. So getting major contributions from Swint who lately has ben dominant in the post and scoring Fargo who has been very consistent all year now Carter running the point stepping in for Chloe Sterling who was our leading scorer. Alarice Gooden who shook off an injury playing well also and the transfer from Quinnipiac Thompson who I believe was also nursing an injury contributing. Should also mention Larsen who doesn't get enough credit for both her D and three point shooting. kudos to this team on a 3 game win streak now they need to put Stony Brook away this week. I should also mention Keita who is a strong rebounder and of course Emma who is now scoring in the mid range just wearing out opposing defenses who try to stop her 3 point game.
Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
Agreed tc - really great to see them get some wins lately - especially without arguably their two best players. Also agree that Kieta and Larsen are the unsung heroes and do all the little things well. Fargo as well including the leadership she clearly brings. Swint has done a great job keeping out of foul trouble which was her achilles heal the past few years. Lets hope they are hitting their stride with the tourney around the corner.

Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
We'll see tomorrow if they can finally put away Stony Brook something they haven't done in a while with SB winning the last 9 games.
Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
We led a lot in the first half, went down 12 in the third quarter, came back, Swint made the winning shot with 1:11 left in overtime, and we won 73-70. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGQPs3ypZzo is highlights. It is our first four game winning streak in CAA games since January 2016. The regular season ends on Saturday hosting Northeastern at 2:00 P.M. The CAA Tournament starts on Wednesday, and the men and women combine to have CAA Tournament games for ten consecutive days. We are in a four-way tie for seventh at 8-9. The only way we have to play in the First Round is if we lose and Towson wins. Towson beat us in the only head-to-head game. I did not check the other teams we are tied with to find out if we could avoid the First Round with a loss, a Towson win, and help. Stony Brook will have to play in the First Round. Northeastern is 3-23 and 2-15 in the CAA, so we should beat them. We split with Delaware, who is 9-8, and I did not check tiebreakers to find out the best seed we could get.
Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
We won 69-53 hosting Northeastern to finish 9-9 in the CAA. We led 21-6 after one quarter, and by 25 after three quarters. Northeastern is 3-24 and 2-16 in the CAA. Corbett led us with 16 points, and Keita had 12 points and 14 rebounds. https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/3/8/wom ... r-day.aspx is our recap titled "Hofstra Wins Big on Senior Day." https://gohofstra.com/sports/womens-bas ... core/13374 is the box score, and the attendance was 811. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgTdluwyvS0 is highlights.

Normally, I don't criticize the sports information of Hofstra University
But I have to take exception to the story on Hofstra loss to William and Mary in the CAA tournaments second round
The article starts off saying that after women's basketballs stellar season ended
I'm sorry, but since when is a14-16 overall record and a 9-9 conference record translate to a steller season

Yes they do but look on the bright side of things were were on a 5 game win streak and playing the best basketball of the season after losing our leading scorer and PG. Not to mention freshman sensation Lanae Corbett was out numerous games. A disappointing end to the season just playing poor D which was our strong suit most of the season.
Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
9th-seeded William & Mary vs. 3rd-seeded Campbell in the CAA championship game on CBS Sports Network tomorrow.
W&M lost 7 of 8 before the tourney started. They're the Delaware of the women's side.

Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
W&M beat the second and third quarter buzzers with 3s. Huge shots for now as the Tribe is within 53-49 instead of down double digits after three.
Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
The William & Mary women reach the NCAA tournament for the first time before the William & Mary men do.
Lowest seed ever (9) to win the CAA tournament.
Won, 66-63 (The VCU men led the George Mason men by the same before hitting to FTs with :00.5 left to win the A10 title game, 68-63, today).
W&M's head coach before their team left Williamsburg for DC: "Stay here if you don't believe we can win [the CAA tourney]."
They trailed 14-0 today before making those buzzer-beating 3s to end the 2nd and 3rd.
They have a starter named Monet Dance.
They came to DC 11-18, they will leave there 15-18.
There's nothing like March.

Tough news from the transfer portal - On3 lists Lanae' Corbett as having entered the portal. Big lost for HU. Also listed is Kassidy Thompson
