Hofstra blows a second half lead. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Re: MBB Game 30 Thu, Feb 27 @Stony Brook 7 PM
We lost this game because we shot 6-for-28 (21%) from the arc. That's 22 missed shots.
Re: MBB Game 30 Thu, Feb 27 @Stony Brook 7 PM
The black uniforms didn't make us shoot horrendously. This team can't shoot. Should have won this one by 14.
Re: MBB Game 30 Thu, Feb 27 @Stony Brook 7 PM
This loss ended Hofstra's streak of 58 consecutive wins when holding an opponent under 60 points.
Re: MBB Game 30 Thu, Feb 27 @Stony Brook 7 PM
Saying the basketball team has hit rock bottom after 6 straight winning seasons just prior is such a gross overreaction. Down year? Yes. Irreparable? Hell no. Why even follow if you're just going to have takes like this...

Not allowed to have a losing (admittedly) horrendous season without people claiming the sky is falling. We have two very promising sophomore guards. There are some players who won't or shouldn't be on the team next year. Hit the portal again and re-roll. It's not over.

So for people who were watching this game at least for a while since it was brutal to watch it wasn’t just the threes but the quality of those shots. One brick after another! Pathetic

But the real challenge will be to hold onto those guards and in this NIL world that may be easier said then done. College athletics is in a whole different world now!RainDelay wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 11:16 am Not allowed to have a losing (admittedly) horrendous season without people claiming the sky is falling. Re: MBB Game 30 Thu, Feb 27 @Stony Brook 7 PM
I noticed after losses now soon to be former coach Claxton doesn’t even do a postgame press conference. Pathetic.
Re: MBB Game 30 Thu, Feb 27 @Stony Brook 7 PM
A lot of schools don't post videos of coaches' postgame comments, especially on the road. Delaware didn't publish any postgame interview after last night's loss @Charleston.
Re: MBB Game 30 Thu, Feb 27 @Stony Brook 7 PM
Hofstra had actually posted postgame pressers with Speedy after every road and neutral game this season (even all three in the Bahamas) until the last two road games (last night and at Hampton).

Okay but that’s normal for other schools. Hofstra/Gorchov has posted a postgame press conference for EVERY game (home and away) as long as I can remember (15+ years). I watch all of them. It comes off badly that he’s (probably) refusing to do them now since the team is so bad. I’d really like to hear what he has to say. Especially since they don’t do coaches reports with him.
Re: MBB Game 30 Thu, Feb 27 @Stony Brook 7 PM
Totally agree Raindelay....hopefully this is just a hiccup for this program. Remember we only returned something 6.5 ppg from last year's team.
Huge rebuilding year.
Re: MBB Game 30 Thu, Feb 27 @Stony Brook 7 PM
I wouldn't read too much into it since it was only the last two road games (at Hampton, at Stony Brook) and the postgames (as you said) have otherwise been posted for every game this season, including the one after after the Monmouth home loss, which was the game after the Hampton loss.Hof_Judge99 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 1:24 pm

Re: MBB Game 30 Thu, Feb 27 @Stony Brook 7 PM
So there's a glass half full and half empty way to look at this when looking at the rest of the conference this year...
Half full: the top 2 scorers for 7 of the top 9 teams in the conference are returning players (and yes i know a couple names here now out for the yr):
1. Towson: tejada and Williamson
2. Uncw: newby and mcgriff
3. Charleston: Only Brzovic (but fulton back too and leads conf in assists by a mile)
4. W&M: Dorsey and Collier (both stayed even with coaching change)
5. Campbell: Duggan and Sinani
6. Monmouth: only Bashir (but 4 of top 5 are returning)
7. Elon: Simpkins and Dorn
8. Northeastern: King and Woods
9. Drexel: Magee and Butler
Meanwhile bottom 5 of Hampton, Hofstra, Delaware, A&T and Stony ALL have a transfer as leading scorer. So continuity is BEYOND important
However the half empty approach: Tejada, Williamson, Bashir, and Duggan all sophs. So the argument that Davis and Aranguren only sophomores loses a little weight there. And more importantly, the losing traits they've shown this year combined with Speedys regression as a coach and the shrinking fan base can't leave you too confident a 2nd yr of this group will magically be the fix

The last we heard from him after a loss he yelled at the reporter about the “impressed” question so I feel he’s dodging the media now and that’s a bad look. It’s part of his job to talk after the game. It’s not the end of the world but I get the feeling things are unraveling.
Re: MBB Game 30 Thu, Feb 27 @Stony Brook 7 PM
Agreed with this, but I'd be more than a bit surprised if they're not both back next season. Don't know where they'd go really, cant see a transfer up and to go laterally makes little sense.triplec2195 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 11:21 amBut the real challenge will be to hold onto those guards and in this NIL world that may be easier said then done.
