MBB recruits 2016
Re: MBB recruits 2016
YES!!
That is TOO funny, I have literally been looking for HU to go after this young man from last yr - I'm not sure if he was a target coming out of HS or not, I think he was but haven't confirmed yet, but he def needs to be a target
Have kept up with him at Chipola because he's a fit for HU's needs in this class next year - potential big impact guy - very good JUCO program, strong league/competition, D1 teammates - perfect size for the position at 6'7, can handle the rock, passes well, shoots the 3, rebounds, plays up-and-down style, athletic of course, and can still play a little physical at 215 and block shots
High major interest then and now, low major / solid mid major offers (Rhode Island, Colorado State, Duquense, Western Kentucky) - right in HU's recruiting wheelhouse - no slight to him, but he won't see the floor with just 2 yrs at URI with the talent they have returning, esp Hasan Martin - others already landed their guys/JUCO's for similar roles. HU is primed and ready for him to make a name for himself and be a star - could flourish in JM's system - clear best fit
Let's get this young man back up north to HU!!

I'll be keeping an eye on ol Georgetown as well this offseason and next yr... very, very disappointing season for the Hoyas - fans not pleased - you think I'm tough, lol, visit their boards
Govan has apparently hit a freshman wall, although the general hope is still high with him and his potential (as it should be) - just seems lost per fans, perhaps not the right coaching fit or role situation
Sure wouldn't have any challenge with your backcourt HS champion teammate and best friend Jessie! Just sayin...

Polito you know what they say. Where there is smoke there is fire. Stranger things have happened
Re: MBB recruits 2016
Great article - some of it we already know - but for a recruit tells you what kind of coach you can be playing fro and if you are the kind of student/athlete that JAM is looking for
Re: MBB recruits 2016
Ooohh, what the NCAAT could do here... prayers up!
Re: MBB recruits 2016
While the season is not over it is unlikely we will receive an invitation to the Big Dance...however I see no reason why we can not be a strong contender next season...the staff has raised the bar and instead of rebuilding for next season we are in a position to reload....I already like the projected players for next years roster and staff still has 4 scholarships to work with...if we can add 3 quality guys up front I see 20 plus wins as a real possibility for next season

Even just one guy that does what Koon did this year for us might be enough. We are definitely in position to be a contender next year but we will have a young team.garyg wrote:While the season is not over it is unlikely we will receive an invitation to the Big Dance...however I see no reason why we can not be a strong contender next season...the staff has raised the bar and instead of rebuilding for next season we are in a position to reload....I already like the projected players for next years roster and staff still has 4 scholarships to work with...if we can add 3 quality guys up front I see 20 plus wins as a real possibility for next season

Re: MBB recruits 2016
I agree 100% - MANY will write HU off with the loss of the seniors - and no question, losing JG, AT, and Koon will be felt - but this team has serious talent at the ready for next season - I actually think HU will surprise a lot of people
They have the ability to finish in the top half of the league - and they are not a 'young' team, they will actually be a very experienced team - it's just going to be a 'new look' team, and it will take them some time to gel - I look for some growing stages the first half/non-conf, but this will be a team that can do damage
I'm not concerned about 20 wins - I think around 18 is very doable - what I want to see is a team that peaks at the right time, and that has a roster/rotation that is BUILT for the tourney - they MUST put together a team that can win 3 in 3, end of story - several CAA teams won 20, and only 2 will play any meaningful post-season - that's a great feeling, but isn't the goal - build a team for the dance.
And it will only take 2 more guys to do that IMO - they need 2 IMPACT wings
Buie and Powers will be the best PG tandem in the league
Gustys is already a POY candidate
BB will be a Sr
Robinson is a guy with experience and talent just itching to get back and make his mark (has bolstered his body big time)
Sabety has had a full yr to practice, acclimate, develop, and learn from RG and the Sr's - he's bigger than RG, and will give teams FITS - they will not overpower him
That's a damn solid starting rotation for a team that loses super seniors!
Give me 2 playmaking wings, and we've got ourselves another potential champ - that HAS to excite recruits - this program is a WINNER, and it is on the CUSP of MAJOR NOISE

Re: MBB recruits 2016
Not to raise undue speculation but sitting in front of me last night was former Hofstra player Leroy Allen, whose son was an outstanding freshman for Drexel....now with his coach Bruiser gone, you never know.
Re: MBB recruits 2016
Would be interesting, but can't imagine Drexel allowing an inter-conf transfer... I sure wouldn't want HU to do that.
Re: MBB recruits 2016
You never know when a coach leaves. Some schools are pretty liberal in that case...and there is a strong connection the family has with Hofstra
Re: MBB recruits 2016
Hm, interesting HUSID - will keep an eye on that...
Also, to bring us to a positive state today, here's some great stuff on incoming stud EP - this is from the NERR site:
http://www.newenglandrecruitingreport.c ... r-elite-75
"Elijah Pemberton - Senior guard at Chesire Academy is headed to Hofstra next year to play in the CAA.
Possessing terrific length and quickness to go with a polished offensive skill-set, Pemberton scored the ball in a variety of ways on Friday, attacking the rim from the wing with a series of explosive, left-to-right crossover combinations, knocking down open jumpers out to 18 feet, and scoring the ball with ease in transition off turnovers. A versatile player capable of guarding multiple positions and scoring the ball from all over the floor, he projects as a dynamic playmaker with the natural physical ability to make the people around him better with terrific feel and creative, sound decision making."

Re: MBB recruits 2016
I could be wrong but doesnt an interconference transfer have to sit out two years.
Re: MBB recruits 2016
2 year JUCO to four year D1 school - play immediately
Re: MBB recruits 2016
Bob would've been nice, but not a huge surprise, same position as EP - and HU needs some 6'6-6'8 wings right now, that is THE most important need in this class - glad HU won't see him at UNCW though
2 impact wings, do whatever it takes to land them in this class - it can be the difference next yr

Re: MBB recruits 2016
Has anyone on this board seen Sabety scrimmage and/or practice with the team?? If so what are your impressions??
Re: MBB recruits 2016
He is not as big as Rokus as some have said. He's 6-8 and 250, sort of a baby Rokus, but he's very athletic...can rise high from the blocks and can shoot better than the Rok...great complimentary player for next year. Not sure if you can play both together. As many have said we need wing players to replace Koon...key for our success next year.garyg wrote:Has anyone on this board seen Sabety scrimmage and/or practice with the team?? Re: MBB recruits 2016
lol I think 'baby' is relative here... he's a BIG boy - he may be an inch shorter than Rok, but they're both about the same weight - he def seems light on his feet, has a beautiful hook shot, runs great, can step out of the box and hit a shot, athletic as mentioned, blocks and rebounds well - I think he's going to play every bit as physical as Rok, he seems to like the contact from what I've seen - and I like that
This staff has a big job here, they need to recruit their PANTS off and land 2 impact wings ready to make an immediate impact - Buie and Powers just need scorers to get the ball to - if they do that, this team can be very good.

Re: MBB recruits 2016
I would imagine that he has learned a lot from Rock - and what it takes to improve - wouldn't mind a baby-RG a few minutes a game for the next 2 years - but wingmen are needed ASAPPolito wrote:lol I think 'baby' is relative here... he's a BIG boy - he may be an inch shorter than Rok, but they're both about the same weight - he def seems light on his feet, has a beautiful hook shot, runs great, can step out of the box and hit a shot, athletic as mentioned, blocks and rebounds well - I think he's going to play every bit as physical as Rok, he seems to like the contact from what I've seen - and I like that![]()
