Starting the thread now, need warm weather and baseball like no other!
When is the 2025 schedule dropping? Most other D-1 Programs have their schedules out already.

Re: 2025 Baseball
First series is against #1 Tennessee. LOL that should be fun
Re: 2025 Baseball
Taking on the Vols tomorrow. This might be a rout. Carlos Martinez, our best starter from last season is out for the season and that's not ideal. Palmer and Masiuk are the only lineup mainstays that are back. Well at least they'll be battle tested.
Tennessee announced their probables, wonder if we will see AJ Russell or not, he's not in there now. On the mound for us, we get to see two transfers this weekend along with Tristan Nemjo returning from injury.
Friday: Jackson Bauer vs Liam Doyle
Saturday: Tristan Nemjo vs Marcus Phillips
Sunday: Branden Brown vs TENN TBD

Re: 2025 Baseball
What happened to Martinez? An injury or did he leave Hofstra....he was pretty tough last season.
Re: 2025 Baseball
That went about as expected. No match for the defending champs in game 1. 15-0 with one hit registered. Only way to go is up!
Re: 2025 Baseball
Nothing to really say about the baseball team other than that I hope they get back to their recent success again, but I just found it funny that the baseball thread was started by someone with the handle Rain Delay.

Re: 2025 Baseball
Due to the weather, we played Iona at Farmingdale State. Friday's game was postponed to make a doubleheader of seven inning games tomorrow. We got our first win today. We led 5-2, allowed a 4 run inning, tied it at 6, allowed 1 in the top of the ninth, tied it with a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth, and won walkoff 8-7 in 10 innings without a hit or walk that inning. We got hit by pitch, to second on a wild pitch, to third on a groundout to the pitcher, struck out when he could have had a walkoff out, and got a walkoff wild pitch. We are 1-3, and Iona is 1-2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPjr2uaN8GY has highlights.
Re: 2025 Baseball
We swept Iona to improve to 3-3. We won 10-9 walkoff in 13 innings, which was 6 extra innings because 7 innings was scheduled for each game of the doubleheader. We trailed 7-4 going to the bottom of the seventh, and hit a two run home run. While down to our final strike with the bases empty, we hit a double. While down to our final strike, we got a hit to tie it at 7. Iona scored 2 in the top of the eighth, and we tied the game while down to our final out. We won Game 2 3-1 with 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth.
On Tuesday we go back to Farmingdale State to play Long Island (LIU), and then play Friday through Sunday at Kentucky.

Re: 2025 Baseball
That was a huge sweep against Iona! Nervous for Kentucky this weekend but maybe we can surprise them - bats coming around!
Re: 2025 Baseball
We scored 3 in the top of the ninth to lose 7-5, which is impressive. Kentucky entered Ranked 23, 6-1, and with a run differential per game of +7.57. They defeated Evansville 24-3. They scored 25 and 30 in their two exhibitions. We had more combined runs and runners left on base. The attendance of 2,770 is more than we average for Men's Basketball, and I would expect their fans to have left unhappy.
Re: 2025 Baseball
After making Game 1 close, we lost two blowouts with 1 scored in each game. We average 3.8 runs scored and 9.7 runs allowed.
Re: 2025 Baseball
That was a pretty nice midweek win against Marist at home. It's the year of the Tyler Cs (Cox/Castrataro), and Dylan Palmer is killing it as usual.

Re: 2025 Baseball
Rain Delay you follow baseball pretty closely does Dylan Palmer have a chance at making it in the major leagues
Re: 2025 Baseball
To the majors remains to be seen, but he will absolutely be drafted and on a minor league roster somewhere, either this year or next. Too talented not to be.stuball888 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 2:53 pm Rain Delay you follow baseball pretty closely does Dylan Palmer have a chance at making it in the major leagues
And haha yeah, college baseball is kinda my thing, not just Hofstra... along with college basketball.
The next Pride player to (hopefully) make the majors will be Jimmy Joyce currently in SEA organization or John Rooney currently in LAD organization. Both of those teams have cracked rotations already so perhaps they would be traded and get a chance somewhere else. No guarantees but definitely an outside shot.
Re: 2025 Baseball
It must be rare to lose the first two games of a series and win the last one 20-0 with the mercy rule shortening it to 7 innings. https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/3/9/bas ... lbany.aspx is our recap titled "Masiuk's Two Grand Slams Power Hofstra Past UAlbany." He hit a grand slam in the first, which were the only runs of the first three innings. We scored 9 in the fourth to lead 13-0, 3 in the fifth to lead 16-0, and Masiuk's grand slam in the bottom of the sixth made it 20-0. After Albany did not score in the top of the seventh, the bottom of the seventh was not necessary. Masiuk became our first player to hit two grand slams in a game, and his 8 RBI were 1 short of the team record. That is held by Ethan Paquette who did it on March 6, 2010 against non-Division I New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). It was our largest shutout win, and tied for our second greatest margin of victory. https://gohofstra.com/sports/baseball/s ... core/13537 is the box score, and the attendance was 200. Our batters had 17 hits, 7 walks, and 3 hit by pitches. Trenton Snyder hit our other home run. Albany left 7 on base without scoring. We improved to 5-9, and our run differential per game improved from -4.54 to -2.79.

Re: 2025 Baseball
Since I last posted, we lost 13-2 in 8 innings hosting Fairfield on March 11, won 14-6 at Fairleigh Dickinson (FDU) on March 12, lost 16-3 at Kent State on March 14, won 17-11 at Kent State on March 15, lost 15-5 in 8 innings at Kent State on March 16, lost 5-2 hosting Fordham on March 19, opened CAA games with an 8-6 win at Monmouth yesterday (March 21), and won at Monmouth 13-12 today to win the series. We are 9-13. Our 9 wins include three games in which the losing team scored at least 9 runs, and seven games in which the losing team scored at least 6 runs. We did not write an article about today's game yet, and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRi-hY4h6t4 is highlights.
Re: 2025 Baseball
Big win over Monmouth in extras today to move to 2-0 in CAA play! Palmer, Masiuk, Cox and Castrataro have been keying the offense all season so far. Let’s keep it going and finish the sweep against the Hawks. (avenge the basketball team!)

Brutal loss today against Monmouth had a four run Lee going to the bottom of the ninth and we give up two to run homes we score one run in the top of the 10th only to give up two runs in the bottom of the 10th
The winning run scores on a wild pitch

Re: 2025 Baseball
We won 13-12 hosting Seton Hall. Before us, I wonder when the last time a team allowed the same amount of runs in three consecutive games with that number being 12 or higher was. In fact, the only MLB teams to do that were when the Chicago White Sox allowed 13 runs in three consecutive games in 1999, and the New York Giants allowed 15 runs in three consecutive games in 1901.
We scored 7 in the bottom of the third to lead 7-1, but we trailed 9-8 after four-and-a-half, and we did not retake the lead until we scored 2 in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score. https://gohofstra.com/boxscore.aspx?pat ... l&id=13549 is the box score. The attendance was 111. Each team committed 4 errors. We allowed 5 unearned runs, and Seton Hall allowed 1. We reached on a hit, walk, or hit by pitch 23 times.
