MBB Game 28 Thu, Feb 20 vs Monmouth 7 PM

Post by Jojogunne »

We're back on Thursday for our penultimate home game of the season. A snowstorm is expected, so we'll have to see if the contest is rescheduled.

Monmouth is 9-18 and 7-7. This month, the Hawks have defeated Delaware (whom we play next Saturday), Hampton and Stony Brook. They also have two losses vs. Towson.

Abdi Bashir Jr., a 6-7 guard from Nebraska, leads the CAA in scoring with 20 ppg. He's had four games of 30 points or more this season, including 38 against Rutgers:

Bashir had an odd game on Saturday. Though Towson held him to just 5 points in 25 minutes, he managed to score his 100th three of the season. In doing so, he became the first player in DI to achieve this feat.

Watch the action on the CBS Sports Network.

Free long-sleeve black T-shirts for the first 2,500 fans. Sponsor is Apple Bank, which probably means their name will be on them somewhere.

The announcers on CBSSN are horrible. They just said that Speedy donated money toward the construction of the Mack, and that's why it's called The House that Speedy Built.
Speedy was still a student when the building opened. It was because of the credibility (i.e. wins) he and coach Jay Wright brought to the program that earned the nickname.

Missed the last six shots of the half and lead 36-27 at the break after starting 12/17 and leading 36-20.

Speedy in a boot. Lower leg injury during the first half. Hope he's okay. What a crazy year it's been for him.

Considering it's Fanta and Tarik Turner doing this game that's really disappointing. Fanta is great for cbb and Turners called tons of our games.

Speedy hurting himself coaching is a true chefs kiss for this nightmare season

What a joke this team has been this year. The laptop thieves were better than this squad.

This team is total garbage. I can’t deal with it. I’m done until the tourney starts and maybe a miracle happens

Can't freak out about bad calls or a scrub making a fluke 3 in the last minute when we blew another giant lead. Just should never be in this position again and again.

This season can't end fast enough

Claxton is 9-17 in his last 26 games against D1 teams. He might get one more year but things have to change.

Crazy, now even a guy who had gone scoreless for most of the game ends up beating Hofstra.

Ball scored seven points in the game but those seven just happened to be seven straight to take it from a 61-57 Hofstra lead, tying it 61-61, on four FTs, and then hitting a tiebreaking 3 for Monmouth's first lead.

Hofstra has blown leads of 18, 12, 18, 8 (with under 8 min left), and 16 in CAA losses this year. At minimum, they could be 9-6 in the CAA instead of 4-11.

Actually 10-16 but same point.

Also, he was 24-3 in his first three Februarys as head coach. He's 0-6 this month.
