Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
Game was this close because Corbett was in foul trouble and I think she only played 18 minutes
If we want to be a top tier team in the league we have to shoot at least 40% overall
Rebounding was good and overall D was solid
This team has scored 60 points or more in 6 games and we have 7 wins
Sterling is a true combo guard but she protects the rock so our turnovers are down big from last year

Stu also the coaching staff has worked diligently apparently on breaking the press because I didn't see a turnover caused by Delaware's press. This kid Keita starting in front of Swint has been huge 8 points 10 rebounds and a block playing 36 minutes . We had 43 boards 16 O rebounds. A lot of options for this team now plenty of depth we could compete favorably in this conference something we haven't done in a long time especially during the regular season.

Great note on the press tc - was watching the game and noticed they were handling with ease (finally!)
Also very happy to have something to get a little excited about. Starting conference play off 2-0 (which I don’t believe they have done since the 14/15 season if I am reading it right) and two road wins as well. Team seems to have good chemistry and ball movement was pretty good as well. Missed a lot of open shots in the first half that fell in the second.
Another huge game by Kieta with 10 boards in 36 minutes - especially given that Swint and Corbett were in foul trouble and limited minutes (20 and 18 respectively). She may be the unsung hero of this team if they continue to win.
Sterling and Von Essen with decent games with 18 and 13 points especially given the 3pt shooting struggles. Credit sterling going 10-10 from the line though. She really solidifies the team with her ball handling and ability to drive and create.
Hopefully they can keep this rolling. Already 1 win away from last seasons conf win total.

LaNae' Corbett after getting a player of the week award now gets a rookie of the week award after the Delaware game. The skies the limit with this kid! https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/1/6/wom ... honor.aspx

With Corbett playing we probably win this game she’s invaluable on both sides of the court.
Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
Coach tol us Thursday night she'd be out about a week. Nothing too serious....

Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
We won 60-53 hosting Drexel, who was 2-0 in the CAA. We led 24-10. Without Corbett, we used eight players. Chloe Sterlin scored 17, and Zyheima Swint had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. We had more rebounds 45 to 26, and Drexel did not have a player with more than 5 rebounds. That made it okay that we had more turnovers 21 to 9. It must be rare for an assist/turnover of 0.38 to beat a team with an assist/turnover of 1.78. Drexel shot threes 4-25 (.160). https://gohofstra.com/sports/womens-bas ... core/13361 is the box score. The attendance was 739. We did not write a recap yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRdUjOoRNJc is highlights.

Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
Even without freshman sensation LaNae' Corbett Hofstra beats Drexel who was the defending CAA champion and came in 2-0. We lead this game pretty much wire to wire except for the beginning of the 1st quarter. We were up 10 points at the half and played well in the 2nd half. Despite our rebounding advantage 19 we didn't realize a big scoring advantage with our turnovers not helping. Nice game from Sterling 17 despite turning the ball over 6X Swint played well and was a force down low Emma efficient with 9 points on 3-6 shooting. Keita continuing to play well for us with 8 boards 6 points but turned the ball over 5X. Give credit to the the coach and her staff for finding a nice mix of players finding minutes for Larsson(2 points) 17,Carter 17 minutes(4 points) and freshman Maddie Pounds who hit a big three in this game scoring 5 points playing 12 minutes.
This is a team that's bonding and playing well together we're 3-1 in this young season which is as many wins as we had all last year in the regular CAA season. Coach Atkinson and staff have started a whole new culture here and it's really paying dividends. Kudos to her and her staff. Really beginning to enjoy watching this team again after so many dismal seasons.

Really strong game today especially without Corbett. I believe they led start to finish.
Sterling had another good game leading the team in points while keeping one of Drexels best players in check.
Swint had a double double. She and Kieta were strong on the boards - they outrebounded Drexel by 19!?! Add Corbett to that and it’s a pretty good front court.
At 3-1, they are tied for 2nd in the conference - can’t remember the last time that was the case.
Hope this great start continues.

Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
Too bad we didn't play at least close to the first half in the 2nd half we might have been in this game. Numerous reasons why we lost this game 70-51 and maybe looking beyond the box score we got out hustled by a team that wanted this game more. We constantly got beat down the court giving up numerous layups and high percentage shots. We got out rebounded 38-24 11 of Elon's rebounds were O rebounds. They killed us in the paint with 36-24 advantage. We didn't do anything well in this game except play sloppy. We played without Emma in the 1st half for about 11 minutes as she had to sit with 2 fouls. They bottled her up playing really tight D so she wound up only taking 5 shots hitting 1. No Corbett is hurting us because she would have helped us in the paint on both ends of the court. Keita continues to play well scoring 15 on 6-9 shooting with 6 rebounds and although Chloe had 12 points she turned the ball over 6X on 5-14 shooting with 3 assists. 7 points for Swint who also had 6 rebounds but was playing with 4 fouls.
At the end of the day who are we going to beat scoring 51 points?? Credit Elon playing tough D.

Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
Corbett out game #4 and it's definitely hurting us but this team continues to grind it out and play tough D. We beat Campbell tonight 55-47 and led by 2 at the half. Just not an offensive game for either team we got 14/16 points from the FT line and that proved to be huge. Emma led us with 16 points with 6-12 4-8 from three, Sterling had 15 points on 4-14 but hit 6-6 FT's. Swint gave us 10 points and 4 rebounds. Keita only had 4 points but was huge on the glass with 14 boards. We out rebounded Campbell 43-36 and both teams turned the ball over 15X. A very nice win for us as we are now 4-2 in the CAA and have more conference wins then we had all last year during the regular season.
Re: Women's Basketball 2024-25
Another win as they keep rolling and stay in 3rd place in the conference. Not having Corbett is a huge loss still, but the fact that they are winning some games without her makes you wonder how good this team could be when she is back.
Was an ugly game at times - especially as they started turning the ball over at the end, but as you mention tc, they hit their FTs to seal the game.
Kieta has really been an X factor - her ability to fight for boards has really limited the extra chances that teams in the past have routinely given up. She does a lot of little things well. Good to also see Hodge get some minutes - could use her size in the rotation.
Really enjoying their early success - hope it continues. Big test on Sunday with first place NC A&T coming in.
