MBB vs St Joseph’s 12/6
Sorry Jojo couldn’t wait for your post. IMO playing these games are a joke but it’s one thing to play one but we play two this year. The real reason for this post is the two e mails I just received one saying us season ticket holders can’t sit in our regular seats because they expect to have 4000 kids attend. It’s a good thing to fill the sits but not a good thing to kick us long time supporters of HU sports out of our seats. IDK if a lot of us planned on attending this game since it’s at 11:30. Also the second part of this equation is that the Pride Lounge won’t be open for this game! We pay good money for both the season tickets and use of the Pride Lounge so I’m not real happy about this game and its restrictions. Am I the only one here feeling shortchanged??
Re: MBB vs St Joseph’s 12/6
I agree as to the seating. Driving in from CT, not happy being unable to use our seats. Very disappointed with the new ticket manager. I have had issues from day one.
Re: MBB vs St Joseph’s 12/6
In addition to the “senior” ticket pricing!
Re: MBB vs St Joseph’s 12/6
Absolutely! Issue still not resolved on my end.

If they can find 4,000 kids to attend an 11:30am game vs a D3 school, why can't they get 40 students to show up for a real game?!
Re: MBB vs St Joseph’s 12/6
I feel bad for the regular-season ticket holders -- I know what's that's like after I was a loyal season ticket holder for years and got bumped from my regular seat at the last minute for the NIT game vs. Nebraska in 2006 -- so at least you're not experiencing something like that and it's just St. Joe's (LI), but you guys should voice your opinion on it and maybe they can work something out that's better for games like this going forward.triplec2195 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 3:42 pm IMO playing these games are a joke but it’s one thing to play one but we play two this year. This is for the Class at the Court event... "a fun day of educational activities centered on health, wellness, and fitness, perfect for elementary and middle school students from grades 1-8." https://gohofstra.com/sports/2024/10/24 ... court.aspx
This is a great thing they're now doing annually for young students. As a Hofstra fan and alum, I'm proud that they're involved with the local community in this way and it certainly doesn't hurt to perhaps make new Hofstra fans when those kids are young. You never know how many of those kids, their parents, their friends, etc. may go on to stay fans longer term. So, although I likewise don't like the opponent, it's a very worthwhile event. I only wish that this, the Old Westbury game, and all of the many other D1 vs. non-D1 matchups around the country would strictly be exhibition games and not games that count. But event-wise, it's a good thing for HU to be doing annually.
Re: MBB vs St Joseph’s 12/6
Wags, I agree that this is a worthwhile event. Actually excited about it and planning to bring my three grandchildren if they are not sick...they seem to ome down with something every week!
As for the lounge and the season tickets not a big deal for this one game although I must say that this year's home OOC schedule stinks!
I'm all for filling this arena...we should be doing more of these type of events!
The energy was awesome the last time I went, think it was two years ago

Pro’s and Con’s both ways for sure but don’t like season ticket holders to be inconvenienced and think that the lounge should have been open with maybe limits on alcohol if that’s a problem. If some players who don’t normally get on the court play that’s a positive as well.

Sit as far back of the arena as you can

KiJan Robinson putting on a nice show for the children!
Re: MBB vs St Joseph’s 12/6
Each team used eleven players in the first half. I am not checking, but that is extremely rare for one of our games. Our bench played more minutes than our starters. I am unhappy that Alec Tabada had as many free throws made and attempted as our team. Decady played the most minutes of our three forwards. He scored 6 without missing, but he did not have a rebound in 9 minutes, while Sunday had 4 in 6 minutes, and Graham had 3 in 6 minutes. Five players are on pace to score double-digits, but they might not get enough playing time to do so. Robinson is on pace to lead us in scoring by 28, which Aaron Estrada never did. 13 assists to 3 turnovers is a great ratio. We did not get any shots blocked or allow any second chance points.
Re: MBB vs St Joseph’s 12/6
Two Hofstra bench players -- (Robinson, 25 pts) and Farmer (14 pts) -- are outscoring St. Joseph's (39-38) at the second half U8. Pride up, 85-38.
Re: MBB vs St Joseph’s 12/6
Final: 114-46
Two Hofstra bench players did outscore St. Joseph's, but it was a different combination than earlier: 47 from Robinson (28) and Parnell (19).
The 114 was just a bit short of the program record of 118.
The 68-point margin is a program record. Funny to get that record on a day when no starter scored more than 7 but also makes sense with a matchup like this, when the bench will get its chance to shine against a D-III.
Starters: 2/15 from 3
Bench: 17/22 from 3

Re: MBB vs St Joseph’s 12/6
We used 13 players. We had 12 players score, which was our most since we had twelve players score in a 74-59 win hosting Dartmouth on December 17, 2005. They were Antoine Agudio, Mike Davis-Sabb, Chris Gadley, Kenny Harris, Ryan Johnson, Greg Johnson, Aurimas Kieza, Jorge Lebron, Carlos Rivera, Zygis Sestokas, Loren Stokes, and Adrian Uter. Our only scoreless player was Arminas Urbutis. I am shocked we did it then because it was not a blowout, and our bench averaged 7.4 points in 2005-2006. We had at least nine players score in four consecutive games for the first time since December 13, 20, 23, and 27, 2008. In 2008-2009 we used our bench a lot, with eleven players averaging over ten minutes per team game, and ten players made at least seven starts. It was a season of Charles Jenkins and hope other guys did well. Darren Townes had the second most starts with 22, and he was ninth on the team with 3.7 points.
We became the third team from 2004 to now to score at least 114 points, win by at leats 68 points, and commit 3 or fewer turnovers. All of them were against non-Division I teams. Before us, I wonder when the last time a team had a half with at least 61 points and no turnovers was.

There is no excuse for there to be another game this year where Decady doesn't get some run. His athleticism and raw talent jumps off the screen, and had nothing to do with the fake opponent
Re: MBB vs St Joseph’s 12/6
http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2024 ... sephs.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: St. Joseph's" from before the game. Michael Graham's shot to beat Arkansas State was our first win at the buzzer since Justin Wright-Foreman made a three to beat Northeastern 75-72 on January 5, 2019. I was at that game, and Northeastern's star point guard, Vasas Pusica, made a big mistake. The shot clock was off in a tie game, and he shot a three early enough to let Hofstra score. Jerry said "this shouldn’t be this hard," and the players did what he wanted.

The teams used 30 players. I seriously wonder if it is the first time that we played a game with that many players used. Our starters shot 9-25 (.360) and scored 22. Our bench shot 32-42 (.762) including threes 17-22 (.773) and scored 92. Our 19 threes made were 1 short of our team record of 20 in a 97-81 win hosting James Madison on February 29, 2020, which was the game before the CAA Tournament. That game had Eli Pemberton make 5 threes and score 35, and Desure Buie made 7 threes and scored 26. That game was the last time I saw us play at home, and now that I moved, it could be the last time I ever see us play at home. I went to 33 home games, and after a 13-14, we won 5 of the last 6 home games I went to (and 7 of the last 8 games including the 2020 CAA Tournament) to go 18-15 in home games I went to and 23-15 in all games I went to. Our 28 assists were 2 short of our team record of 30 in a 111-69 win hosting New York Tech on November 15, 2019. Our 46 points allowed were our fewest allowed against a non-Division I team since a 67-44 win hosting Belmont on January 6, 1999, which was Belmont's season before Division I. It is the first time we allowed 46 or fewer points to a team not currently in Division I since a 43-36 win over Albright in December 1961 or January 1962, but the dates are not available from back then. Alec Tabada was scoreless in the second half. I wonder when the previous time we allowed a player to score at least 14 points in the first half and held him scoreless in the second half was.
Robinson is now fourth on the team in scoring, third in assists, and has played more minutes than starter Graham. Graham led us with 7 rebounds, while his 11 minutes were tenth on the team. I wonder when the last time a team's leading rebounder was not in the top nine on his team in minutes that game.
Robinson shoots twos and threes exactly equal .455.
We moved up to 42nd of 364 in opponents' field goal percentage at .387, and Elon is the only CAA team who allows a lower field goal percentage.
Our forwards shoot field goals 55-79 (.696) and free throws 18-35 (.514). Graham shoots field goals .750 and free throws .286. Sunday shoots field goals .650 and free throws .667. If his field goal percentage passes his free throw percentage, we will have two regulars who shoot field goals better than free throws.
Sanders shoots .324. I wonder where he ranks in the lowest field goal percentage by players who lead their team in field goals attempted.
This was one game against a non-Division I team, but if Robinson plays well, he should start over Sanders or Gadsden. We changed one starter from Bryce Washington to Plotnikov at midseason last season, and guys should not get to keep starting because they seemed deserving based on prior seasons or practices before the season.
Edit: Our 114 points were 4 short of our team record of 118 against Wagner in 1971-1972.
https://gohofstra.com/news/2024/12/6/me ... agles.aspx is titled "Pride Cruises Past Golden Eagles." It is the second consecutive season that we had a player make eigh threes against St. Joseph's as Tyler Thomas made eight threes and scored 26 points in 19 minutes in a season-opening 101-48 win on November 6, 2023. St. Joseph's used 17 players in that game and today.
https://gohofstra.com/sports/mens-baske ... core/13421 is the box score. The attendance was 4,013.
DeCady became the 14th player this season to make at least 4 field goals without missing and make at least 4 free throws without missing. He is our first player to do that since Jacquil Taylor made 7 field goals and 4 free throws in a 107-54 win hosting non-Division I Rosemont on December 22, 2018. The Stathead Play Index is complete back to 2010-2011 and mostly complete back to 2004-2005, and Taylor was our only player to do that in that time before today.

Agreed wholeheartedly on Decady. He brings a different type of life and energy as well. Physical player who appears quite skilled and I have dreams of what he could eventually become. Could be an actual front court force in the futuredutchPride86 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 2:53 pm There is no excuse for there to be another game this year where Decady doesn't get some run. Key with Decady is defense and staying out of foul trouble
Give him time and he will adjust
