MBB Game 6 @Houston, Nov. 22 (Fri) 8 PM ET

Post by Jojogunne »

The #7 Houston Cougars (3-1) are next on our schedule. We faced them once before, in 2021, taking the Cougars to OT only to lose, 83-75. Zach Cooks had a game-high 26 points:

This year, Houston has wins over Texas A&M, Jackson State and Louisiana. The Cougars lost to #4 Auburn.

The Cougars last played on Wednesday, Nov. 13. After facing us, they will take on #8 Alabama next Tuesday. Could ours be a quintessential trap game?

Another tough "BUY" game for the Pride. Wonder if the guarantees we are getting are going to NIL or to the program...Any thoughts on this?

This is the worst one I've seen yet: ESPN gives Hofstra only a 1.4% chance to win this game.

I understand what a good team this is but all things aside we match up well in terms of size with this team. We'll see if this behooves us. I'm sure they're super athletic and talented but maybe we have a better chance against this team as crazy as that sounds.

We can be a dangerous team if taken lightly with our ability to score and shoot threes...I give us a "puncher's chance," better than Mike Tyson!

Well they may very well take us lightly because the betting line has us as 28.5 point underdogs. Nuts, I wonder if we have ever been that big of an underdog?? Are they that good and us that bad!

I know Houston is ridiculously good, arguably best team in the country on defensive end, but this just flat out is unacceptable.

1 assist, 7 TOs down 29-13. Playing tentatively, a similar start to what happened against FSU. No offensive ball movement. Silas looks lost.

I know Houston is great but this is hard to watch. 28.5 may have been generous. Completely out of sync - no flow on offense.

Hofstra half pt totals:

Houston - 18 1st half
FSU - 23 1st half
Umass - 28 2nd half
Seton Hall - 22 and 27
Old Westbury - 34 1st half

This is beyond a little blip, and beyond just brushing off because of the quality of the opponent. This team has some 5-alarm fire glaring offensive issues to figure out right now

So, I'm sorry to write that the 28,5 point spread was pretty accurate. Down at half by 30 points, 18 to 48.

Arenguran looks to be pressing, Gadsden contributes nothing, Plotnikov add nothing, Silas is lost, Graham doesnt add much, Robinson is all one on one.

Cruz and Sanders are carrying the team (if 13 pts can be considered carrying  )

I go back with this team to the last yrs of the PFC with a young Jay Wright... that might be the worst game I've ever seen them play. And when this offense has struggled so far this year, it's about as ugly as I've ever seen. But hey after blasting us Houston is back to #1 on kenpom, so I guess we're just not national championship caliber yet. lol

Maybe the early wins hid how much these kids all do truly need to learn each other's games and gel. Back to the drawing board...

their offense consists of the following plays:

dribble dribble handoff dribble dribble handoff dribble into 3 guys turn the ball over
dribble dribble handoff dribble dribble handoff dribble dribble force a 3

Sorry guys had to shut this off I kinda remember as maybe us older guys do a game we played I believe at Nassau Coliseum against Long Beach State when they were ranked (hard to believe) #1 in the country. If my memory serves me right we lost that game by around 50 points. I don't remember us losing a game by that many points other then that one. Our inside presence in this game was so weak that we couldn't get many points down low. From what I watched we played that game from beyond the arc by and large very few mid range shots. We actually hit 8 two's in this game so Houston totally stopped us from penetrating and getting any mid range game to speak of.

Silas may keep his head above water in a mid major game but in a game against the big boys he's way out of his SKILL LEVEL. I think Houston focused on shutting down Jean and they did that perfectly hard to believe he didn't score. This team right now is distant from the team that went to O/T vs Houston and beat Arkansas but I believe they're a decent team that will evolve. We have to win the CAA not the SEC. Lots of work to be done. No post presser from Speedy? Who could blame him!!

OK so I spoke too soon! https://youtu.be/lNUorbQVguM?si=Dw__GmRKSb46HU8Q So Speedy kept repeating"I'm proud of my guys" a phrase we've heard over and over again he referenced the 2nd half how they were only outscored by 6. I wonder how many of Houston's starters were playing in the second half, lol! Remember this he said we should now "DOMINATE" MOVING FORWARD. WE SHALL SEE!!

Well triplec, what do you expect him to say? He's not about to throw this team under the bus in the first weeks of the season...we were clearly overmatched in this game and came out tentative AGAIN...they used a half court trap and it looked like we never saw it...the passing was atrocious and then it spiraled out of control.

This is the worst Hofstra game I can remember since Roger Gaeckler's debut against Temple at Temple...We lost 80-48! Hope to never see another one like this for the rest of my life!
