Will not be at the game. I will be in Atlanta. Why dont all you guys meet on the court at the center court circle. I understand that Polito an d Larry will be holding "court" there.

Mixtape of Juwan Gray (2014-2015 high school)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pc-JcqNzaOo
Looks to me to be an excellent true freshman pick-up if we can get him. not an immediate impact player, but looks like he has lots of tools to develop at the D1 level. Runs the floor really well, finishes, good passing skills, can shoot from 3, plus he's 6'8" (don't know if he grows another inch maybe?). Video is impressive, however he competition in the video appears to be true high school level basketball (meaning sometimes he's guarded by a guy much smaller, or the talent level isn't that great). Still looks like a pretty high ceiling guy after if he works hard first year or two in college. Looks to me to be the type of Koon replacement (2 years from now) but may have better movement skills.
With a bunch of open scholarships, I think a guy like this should be a no brainer......the type that you don't have to count on for a year or two. I only wonder why he does not have a bunch of offers already. Verbal commits shows only offers from HU and Miami (Ohio). Gotta think there are others that just don't show up on this site.
Now JM, get the 6'7" JUCO guy who will have an immediate impact!!

At 6ft7 I dont think he is 6ft8 and only 175 he has a slight frame. Also I have found that high school heights are exaggerated. Look at JWF who was listed as much as 6ft2.
Re: MBB recruits 2016
I am in love with this coaching staff ... in the most manly way of course
Seriously, the focus on talented wings is just a thing of pure beauty - THE most important position in the mid major game other than the PG, in my humble, yet accurate, opinion - and this is another versatile one
Z, this is your 6'8 guy that has range to hit jumpers and 3's - kind of a raw version of Q Ford - not as strong of a 3 shooter yet as Ford, don't want to overhype, he has a developing game, but he has some very key strengths that put his potential in that sky high range:
natural SF/WF, very athletic (like all JM guys apparently), runs well, can handles the ball, has good court vision, passes well/uses lanes, can tomahawk, hit a jumper, or drain a 3, can create his own or catch and shoot, is very long so plays strong D around the basket and can grab rebounds/put backs
He's light for 6'8 at around 180-185, but he's not a PF, he's meant to be fluid, creating havoc, so his size aids his quick first step and active type of game - he'll do well with a D1 yr under his belt to learn and grow
Basketball family, brother was MEAC POY for Del State, and Gray was a top 10 state recruit SR yr (grain of salt, it's Delaware) - teammate was Delaware Gatorade POY, and current SPI squad has 2 guys getting big time looks, and a couple of other D1's - i.e. he plays with talent - but it's literally a brand new school, 1 yr I think, competition as Cards noted is hit or miss, so looks like he kind of became a diamond in the rough - he does have talent though, and he has had high major attention, but I think he's made for a top mid, hence the current offers (also had when he was in HS) - seems to be elevating late in the game, which is perfect for HU - good shot here, esp with JM making the visit and the offer
Love that he's prep, a yr older and wiser - he can be nasty by Jr yr with the right development and system
Koon said something I noted last yr as well, when asked about the teams strong play and the team chemistry, he said basically that it sure helps when most of the team is almost 30 LOL - SO true - makes a huge difference - experienced guys coming in ready to play and mature quickly - I'm a BIG fan of that, prep, juco, even the 5th yr has proven a difference-maker - prep is nice, you get them 4 yrs, but a bit past that early youthful frosh stage

Iona's Kelvin Amayo will seek a 6th year and transfer. Hofstra is on the list of schools he is allowed to contact, so there's a possibility for a graduate transfer.

If the coaching staff thinks he's a fit, I would love to have Amayo on the team. He can't shoot though, 19% 3 point, 50% FT.ProudofPride wrote:Iona's Kelvin Amayo will seek a 6th year and transfer. I really respect these grad school transfers though. Any player serious enough to get a degree and keep playing on scholarship for grad school is beating the system. I love that! We've also had really high character grad transfers, but that's probably a bit self-referential. At the CAA level, these guys have just been major difference makers.

Re: MBB recruits 2016
We're looking at PG Kyson Rawls, looks like class of '17:

Re: MBB recruits 2016
yeah, I saw that, and I'm just not sure he's of the right mold for HU to be honest - there seems to be some things that just don't seem to match the high character players JM is establishing here... he's talented, good size, but just not sure it's the best fit for this program - think there are better options for HU
I don't know, I could be wrong, but just a gut feeling this one isn't 'right' - interesting list of approved schools though...
On another side note, Jamel Allen from Brentwood committed to Iona - this is a '16 guy that HU had interest in, 6'6 SF emerging skill set, but there were questions about his qualification... general thought was prep would need to happen first to get things in order, but hey, whenever there's doubt, never fear, Iona is here!
No knock on the kid though, has ability, good size, and he could def do well with some development in the right system there

PG Buie Powers
SG Bernardi JWF Pemberton
SF Robinson Pemberton
PF Sabety
C Gustys Walker
Collectively I like backcourt for next season...Bernardi needs to bounce back and have strong SR year...I think JWF will come on strong...and Pembo will have bigger 1st year impact then many expect....Pembo gives us options as he can play 3 positions but he should get most of PT at 2 & 3
Robinson had very solid FR year averaging almost 10 ppg and almost 5 rpg while accumulating more assists then turnovers
If staff can add 3 quality guys up front we may be CAA contendors as soon as next year...make it to March Madness would certainly help big time

LIKE - our big-men - we should able to match up with any team that plays a post up offense - might have a tough time with the athletic teams that play a moving offense
DO NOT LIKE - the size of our backcourt DB, JFW and DP - are all small-sih - but might bring a different flavor that is quick and pesty - they are going to have to be able to finish when they go to the rim because they are going to get hammered
NEED - BB to develop and be able to create and make his own shots - opposing teams are never going to let him be open for long stretches
INTERESTED - in seeing Pemeberton - all things I read here is he's a really nice addition
HOPE - JR used his year "off" working on his game and learning from his upper-classmen - he was a key contributor his Freshman year and is athletic enough, he looks like he filled out an I am expecting some nice things from him
Re: MBB recruits 2016
DB may lead the CAA in steals next season if he gets starter minutes. He is very quick, and seems to get nearly a steal a game in limited time. With JG in foul trouble, he got some extended time and responded with a great defensive effort.

Re: MBB recruits 2016
After Pemberton signed with us I asked JAM for evaluation...JAM did not go into much detail but he called Pemberton an "impact player" and stressed that Pemberton could have a major role as a freshman...first time I have heard JAM call freshman "impact player"...I think Pembo could be a steal for us
Re: MBB recruits 2016
I look for a similar impact as DB this year, just more on the scoring end of course - a player with ability beyond his years - great to hear JM's high expectations as well - and he's certainly willing to play freshmen if the need is there and they have the talent/maturity - great selling point to recruits IMO
And for the next wings that come on board, the sky is the limit - MAJOR need - prime opportunity for guys to make a huge impact day 1

Re: MBB recruits 2016
HU offers JUCO from Chipola college (Florida) - Junior Saintel (Atlantic City, NJ)
Just what the doctor ordered - 6'7" wing. Moves well, shoots with range, looks very athletic.
When he was coming out of HS, this kid had lots of high level offers/interest, but wanted (needed?) to improve academically and decided to go JUCO.
