Rokas Gustys
Re: Rokas Gustys
Would love to see a JW vs. Rokas matchup now with the way Rokas is playing...But alas it probably will never happen.

Only way seeing it is if both are in the NIT. NCAAs too many teams in the way.
Re: Rokas Gustys
I agree. The most likely way would be for Hofstra and Stony Brook to get 11 and 14 seeds or 12 and 13 seeds in the same bracket. With no opportunities for great wins in the America East, it will be hard for Stony Brook to get a 12 seed or better. As of now I wouldn't give Hofstra a 12 seed or better either, but if we win at least 3 of 4 to finish 13-5 or better in CAA play and win the CAA Tournament, maybe we could get a 12 seed or better.stuball888 wrote: NCAAs too many teams in the way.
Re: Rokas Gustys
In addition to his game-winning layup, Rok recorded his 16th double-double last night, the most for a Hofstra player in a season since HU joined the CAA in 2001-02. Kenny Adeleke had the old mark in this era.

A good portion of Kennys rebounds were off of his own misses. He had hands of stone but to his credit he was able to rebound without recoiling. He could stand straight up and still sky for rebounds.
Re: Rokas Gustys
Boy, RG sure is the real deal. It doesn't seem to matter who we play or who RG is up against, he just keeps putting up Monster Numbers. Don't know if JM saw this in him during recruitment, but this certainly has been JMs diamond recruit at HU so far.
RG missed a few chip shots and put backs this afternoon, but I'll give him a pass with his 7 made FTs and overall numbers.
Gotta have DB and BB learning to feed RG. Right now its primarily JG and some feeds from DK. AT never feeds RG or gets any assists for that matter. The point is, we need the replacement that feeds Rock next year when JG is gone. I think we'll be able to count on Powers and Pemba for helping in that regard (along with DB and BB). We'll get it to the big guy, it just wont be as pretty as having JG do it!

If DB learned anything this year it is that the pick and roll/give and go can make a pointguard along with RG a nice 1-2 punch -Cards wrote:Boy, RG sure is the real deal. I would also like to see a bit more of a 2 man game out of BB and RG - when/if we are in slow down set offense -
Re: Rokas Gustys
RG looks just incredible - he's so much lighter on his feet than appears, runs better and is even slightly more athletic than I pegged him to be - his dunks were fantastic in that regard
The way he has learned to use the basket as his built-in screen to block a defenders chance at making a play on him is A+ basketball - want him in the dance too just to get that shot to shine
He and JG have a beautiful chemistry no doubt
One thing to remember with DB is that he had a very similar setup with Govan - he helped 'make' Jessie Govan as much as JG is helping to 'make' Rokas - he has that ability to setup and dish and has proven it with a Big East guy - I'm pretty confident that with more time they will gel the same way - and I have no concern at all about Powers, a proven D1 starter with experience
But there is no question JG is special - he's got that Matrix the 'one' kind of thing going this yr, and the way he's playing as the season winds down, he's making it hard not to believe in his ability to lead these guys to the promised land...

With 347 rebounds, he could become the third player in CAA history to have 400 rebounds in a season. The record is 455 by David Robinson in 1985-1986, and the second most is 404 by Jerrelle Benimon in 2013-2014. He would also be the third player in Hofstra history to have 400 rebounds in a season. Bill Thieben and John Irving were the first two.
