Re: Men's Lacrosse 2023
So tomorrow at 11 AM we play LIU at 11 AM last year? They beat us 14-11 I want to see us get off to a good start and put this game away early. No excuses this year.

We'll see this team appears that no lead is safe!!
Re: Men's Lacrosse 2023
So we win the Battle of Nassau County (or is it Brooklyn) with a 13-7 victory today over the Sharks of LIU. Good to finally get a "W."

Re: Men's Lacrosse 2023
it was a solid win as we put this one away early with a 8-0 first quarter. Defense was solid. We won faceoffs 19-4. After the 1 st LIU went to zone D to slow us down.
Special thanks to Jojo who gave me info as he was at the game.

Taking an apparent backseat to basketball, congrats to men lax's on a 16-12 win over St. John's. Think we were up 15-4 at one point so again we fail to play in 4 quarters, but a W is a W. It would be nice to get a W over Nova next weekend before Syracuse comes to the Island.

It was 15 - 4 when Hof cleared the bench while SJU left starters in the whole game, could have been a 20 - 5 win.mikey75 wrote:Taking an apparent backseat to basketball, congrats to men lax's on a 16-12 win over St. John's. With Nova beating Delaware yesterday, next week should be a good measuring stick.
Re: Men's Lacrosse 2023
I liked what I saw on ESPN+:
8 players scored 16 goals
10 of 16 goals were assisted
35 of 51 players got in the game
We won 21 of 29 face-offs
Unfortunately, Gerard Kane, our leader in total points (18), left the game with a leg injury in the first quarter. Fortunately, FR Anthony Mollica of Massapequa stepped in to score three goals in his absence.
Also, D Tom Ford had two long-range goals from the Hofstra side of the field. He did that once last year. Don't know why the St. John's goalie left his spot.
This team has a lot of depth, and some of the players who were on the field last year are not seeing as much PT.

Re: Men's Lacrosse 2023
St. John's was running a 10 man ride where the goalie comes out and covers at attackman and it allows you to cover everybody on the clearing team, what St John's failed to do was cover the guy with the ball (Ford) and Ford recognised this and made some crazy accurate bombs (one was from his own restraining line) and he just missed on a third shot and Mac Gates also shot one and just missed.Jojogunne wrote:I liked what I saw on ESPN+:

Dutchflid - Fair enough replying to my post - I just was feeling the specter of prior meltdowns when SJU made an 8-1 run in the 4th. It was getting too close for comfort for me.
Re: Men's Lacrosse 2023
you and me both, I have been at so many games where I wonder why the winning team has not cleared it's bench and let some kids get some playing time but when Hof started pulling starters in the 3rd and SJU left their starters in all game I thought they should have put starters back in and shut it down. All and all it was still a solid win.mikey75 wrote:Dutchflid - Fair enough replying to my post - I just was feeling the specter of prior meltdowns when SJU made an 8-1 run in the 4th. Re: Men's Lacrosse 2023
Two big home games in the next few days: Villanova tomorrow at 12 noon and Syracuse Tuesday at 7 pm.
Re: Men's Lacrosse 2023
So we get bombed by Villanova today at home...played it close in the first quarter then Villanova scored something like 9 straight goals. We did not belong on the same field with the Wildcats...another disappointment.
Re: Men's Lacrosse 2023
The wins over LIU and SJU were fool's gold. The demise of Hofstra lax continues in case anyone is even watching.
Re: Men's Lacrosse 2023
Correction: The Syracuse game is next Tuesday, March 21. No other games before then.Jojogunne wrote:Two big home games in the next few days: Villanova tomorrow at 12 noon and Syracuse Tuesday at 7 pm.
