It's about time! It seems as though they put everything into the Midnight Madness promotion and have let the season fall flat. Part of the problem is th lengthily student winter break; another is the fact that we don't play local rivals...really hurts.

As for the local community I think it's CRUCIAL...when these people get to a game they LOVE IT and come back!

We need a consistent and well thought out marketing plan for the entire season...and they need to spend some money...tweeting out "come to the game means nothing" how many followers are there?

Marketing for the 2017 season should start now. What was done during the summer months to reach out to the community.

Just listened to the latest coaches report. Hard to have to listen to the head coach have to "hope" that they can get fans out to the game. JM did mention that he thought there was some type of tail gate party before the game - so at least it sounds like something is in the works to try and get some students to turn out (maybe this is the promotion that Coach K referred to in her tweet). Hope this is sponsored by the HU and not something the students had to put together! That being said, at this point I really don't care how people get there, as long as they are there!

And you're right stu, the marketing should be starting for next year. Hopefully its done early enough to capitalize on this seasons success and maybe generate some excitement for the next 4 weeks and beyond.

Finally, I know its usually the rabid students who bring signs and posters to college games, but why cant HU spend a few bucks and have some signs made up and then hand them out to students or everyone who shows up. Or get a few of those big "head shots" of JG and RG made up and give to the students. They should be doing everything they can to made it feel like a fun and exciting event for the students. Give them some props to make it easy to cheer and have a good time! I cant imagine that Staples or some other sign company couldn't fill such an order in a few days. At least try to make it feel like it resembles big time college basketball. And, a loud and raucous student section make it fun and memorable for everyone in the building.....it keeps non students coming back. (if I had some spare cash around, heck, i'd pay for having the signs made up and hand them out myself!)

Ticket deal just announced, buy a ticket for the men's game and get a voucher for a free ticket to the women's game.

And as far as Coach K's tweet goes, she tagged Hofstra OSLE (formerly known as OSLA) in the tweet, and they responded saying they were glad to be working to be part of it. So student affairs is helping to get students there.

I love your spirit, but I think this is something that unfortunately can't be forced. Like you said, it's the rabid students who do this. HU can make up the head shots, signs, etc., to try to artificially create an exciting environment, but you still have to get someone in the building first, to hold those head shots, signs, etc. up. These things were all done many times by students on their own for Charles Jenkins and his teams, and that was for teams that didn't have half the chance of winning a CAA title that this year's team does (except for one season, when Jenkins & Co. finished tied for second place). I don't know who the students are who replaced those students since then, but they certainly aren't big college basketball fans, except for just a handful of them today. It's a shame, but that's just the way it is now. Maybe we'll see something different on Thursday, and the same types of fans back then show up now, but I wouldn't count on it.

Something like this isn't very hard to make. It's just paper glued onto cardboard. And the students are actually into it, with face paint and two kids are shirtless. Students now need to see pictures like this.

Exactly guys!! I've been at all those games when the students were loud and boisterous. They are sorely missed! :(

They're giving away at apple watch to a student at the men's game, and the tailgate will be at both games.

As far as the women go, it will probably be the second largest home crowd, besides What I Want to Be Day with all of the elementary school children. Their game against JMU on Friday is Girl Scout Night, so there will be troops from all over Nassau County. There's usually a decent turnout for that.

Now thats more like it. But is it too little too late. This should have been on the students calendar when they came back from summer vacation. It should have been talked up at freshman orientation. Like I said Hofstra is more reactive than proactive.

I agree with one of the previous posts. It was hard to watch JM on the coaches report basically begging for people to show up for Thursday's game. I don't know the answer to filling seats. I don't understand why the "Lions Den" isn't filled for every game. Aren't tickets free for students. As far the surrounding community, I think you just have to find a way to get them in once and I think a lot of them would return when they see the quality of the product. At least that was what happened in my experience. A few years back they were giving away free tickets to scouts so my wife and I went with our kids. We enjoyed it so much we have been returning every year since and take in 4 or 5 home games a season.

I was just on the GoHofstra website. Looks like they are making a decent effort to promote Thursdays game. Tail Gate party for students and a 2 for 1 ticket deal. Hope it works. Check it out.

Not a question of how hard it is to do something like that.

That pic was from the tournament, by the way, not a Hofstra home game -- not that HU fans in the past didn't do stuff that was just as good or better at home games. But the issue is that those types of fans don't seem to exist at HU games anymore. If they did, we'd have seen them all season. It's not that they don't know how to do this stuff and they need a pic like that for inspiration. The ones who are that into it will do stuff like that all on their own, the same way the ones in that pic did. But WHERE ARE those types of HU fans today? Do they EXIST?

That's more like it.

There should be a large banner in the student center showing the same.

And there should have already been a similar looking ad in Newsday running this week.

(hate the new UNCW logo by the way; the old one was SO much better).

Hofstra should be using the above statement as a testimonial in its advertising to the community at-large.

Speedy just tweeted about the game, which hopefully will help. It's probably safe to say that his 23 thousand twitter followers is more than all of the head and assistant basketball coaches in the CAA combined have.

It said "Hofstra Basketball Is Back." It may have been a commercial made before the season. The James Madison at William & Mary game will be replayed on SNY tomorrow at 3:00 P.M. The commercial was about 1:30 into the game, so if you watch (or DVR) SNY tomorrow at about 4:29 P.M. and the commercials are the same as when the game was on live, you can see the commercial yourself. The commercial was during the media timeout with 7:53 left.
Just saw the commercial on SNY. It promotes Hofstra basketball in general. In fact, they could have included a couple of clips from the women's games and promoted both teams.
