Re: Game 2 - Molloy
It seems fairly safe to say that at this point, JAM has no plans for Walker on this team.
Also, I don't care how much we're up by at this point. 4 straight wide open threes for Molloy is not acceptable.

Finally! Walker sees the floor. Good job by the very small student section to chant his name when he entered the game.
Re: Game 2 - Molloy
Unbelievable - if he has any talent but is a complete a--hole he plays a few minute - if he has no talent and a good guy he plays a few minutes - if he is no talent and a complete a--hole I guess he doesn't play - doesn't seem to ME like he is a a--hole and seems to ME that he has SOME talent - what am I missing????ProudofPride wrote:It seems fairly safe to say that at this point, JAM has no plans for Walker on this team.

Re: Game 2 - Molloy
We end the game scoring the same amount of points that we did against Canisius, although we should have scored way more tonight.
Speedy is speaking with WRHU on the post game now. One of the reasons he said we did better in the second half was our defense, but Molloy scored more in the second half and had a better shooting percentage than they did the first…

Re: Game 2 - Molloy
96-64 Final.
Overall, similar performance to Friday. We blew so many easy shots and free throws in the first half, the score was a bit misleading, but we also had Buie and Wright-Foreman playing most of the half.
Progressively wore Molloy down in the second, made our shots, distributed the ball incredibly well. The final result was never in doubt, it felt like we were more in a scrimmage than a game honestly. No means a knock on Molloy, who made some shots, but it looked like we were working on our transition defense and offense, while working the freshmen into some significant playing time. Our man to man defense sucks though, and it's mostly a personnel problem, we don't have good defenders, and with the way we want to run the court, it feels like at most times Green, Tanksley and Bernardi have one eye on the fast break, one eye on the defender. Many games this year will be decided on whether the opponent wants to hit the 3-ball, which I'm fine with as long as we can continue to tighten up the interior defense, and force more 3's.
Walker's in the doghouse, this was essentially told to us by Farrelly during the pregame "chalk talk" in the lounge. I personally don't think we can make it through the season with an 8 man rotation, two of those guys being freshmen, and only two real forwards in Rokas and Nichols. They're going into get foul trouble frequently against the better teams, but we need them to play aggressively as they're some of our better defenders. There doesn't seem to be any guarantee that Biyambo is coming back for the second half of the year, Walker will eventually need to be a contributor, but if he doesn't do enough in practice, he's not going to play.
Cannot wait for the Paradise Jam, we have Florida State, then either South Carolina or DePaul, great barometer weekend for our team. All three teams play big, which could either crush us from the gate, or give us mismatches beyond the arc. Personally not expecting too much, I think we're just too sloppy with the ball to really knock off an elite team, but if Tanksley and Koon can be "on" from the perimeter, with Bernardi, we're going to score a lot of points, giving us a puncher's chance.

Re: Game 2 - Molloy
They weren't overly impressive but I wouldn't call it a bad performance. They won by 32 which was around the minimum margin of victory I was expecting. There were too many missed layups and free throws in the first half but they upped the intensity level in the 2nd and pulled away. It's early in the season and they have some new guys in the rotation so it's unfair to expect a perfect 40 minutes right now against anyone. They were working in Buie and JWF tonight. JWF by the way is extremely athletic. Really liked what I saw from him. Thought Nichols had another terrific game also.
Now it's time for the fun part of the OOC schedule against some big opponents. I would expect them to play this weekend with the same intensity level that they would in the CAA tournament and let the chips fall where they may. Good luck guys.

Re: Game 2 - Molloy
From my vantage point it looked like we were messing around with a few things first half (despite what JM admits publicly), especially trying to get Tanksley looks inside. Also a lot of minutes with the 2 freshmen on at the same time, which I doubt we'll see much of in real games. Lastly, what did Bernardi take 2 three's? Obviously some experimenting going on. Second half, we put down the hammer, and with 8 minutes to go it was extended garbage time. Wouldn't call it a bad performance, though it was less than stellar.
Re: Game 2 - Molloy
Some of you now seeing my concerns...
Alas, the good:
Thought they came out with much better intensity
JWF can score from literally anywhere - just needs more PT and development
Buie made some frosh mistakes, but you can see he has talent and love his confidence
Rokas playing like a man on a mission and I love it - want to see him set the HU record for double-doubles, and he can do it
Nichols plays a little wild at times and I know that can be frustrating to JM, but man the kid has great energy and passion, he really has some skill - love his physical aggressive play - I think he's uber excited for his last yr and increased PT and just needs to settle a bit - but this guy makes an impact every time he's on the floor
Koon does have solid bball IQ and gets himself into great position on both ends - much better rebounder than I expected
Team was absolutely mixing up plays and personnel, so have to take that into account - should've scored well over 100 but the weren't really trying for that and the frosh played a lot - it was a practice run, so I'll take that for what it's worth
The bad
This team can't finish around the basket - it is SO bad, and just like last yr - not a single player who can finish consistently in the post - and they actually get PLENTY of opps - layups, put backs, driving the lane, sweet passes, yet they blow so many of those chances - really annoying
This team has no one outside of Walker who provides any interior D - guys literally have no fear attacking the hoop on HU - I'd like to see SOMEONE get pissed about that slap in the face and DO something about it
Tanksley looks terrible - seen him get stuffed in each game on plays he has no biz getting blocked on - had a WIDE open 3 game 1 but took about 4 friggin seconds to be set and finally shoot, defender easily got to him for a pitiful blocked shot - catch and shoot dude, not rocket science - tonight got flat out stuffed at the hoop on what should've been an easy 2 - pretty disappointing so far...
Koon...my goodness the guy gets open and gets great looks but he hasn't capitalized, has not looked good shooting - I expected a lot better...really hope this is just rust
How this team did not exploit the size difference tonight is disgraceful - every wing and forward should be really displeased with their play in that area - HU towered over them but you'd never have known it
This team, and some of you, are about to be in for a very rude awakening against FSU - if they play like they did first 2 games, FSU will wax these guys all over the court - they are a young group, but man they are talented - 4-5 stars all over, mcd's all American or 2, huge size all over, and they excel in the fast paced transition game
HU absolutely can NOT try to run the floor with these guys, they actually need to slow it up to have a shot - if they try and fly, FSU may run them right off the island
Only shot is to hope FSU shots aren't falling, HU's are, and that HU can take advantage of their still developing D - this will take lights out shooting from HU and a real D effort for a full 40
Not sure I'd call this exciting based on what we've seen thus far...HU plays sloppy and weak missing easy opps like the have, and the may come home winless - BUT if they get their ish together and start playing like expected, and they could come back with 2-3
I pray its the latter and the shots are falling - Bernardi, let it rain baby

Re: Game 2 - Molloy
If they play like they did in first two games on upcoming road trip they will not be competitive...time for JAM to do a little less jawing at refs and a little more jawing at his team....in the Virgin Islands I hope we can play each game within 12 points..that is what I consider competitive against very good competition....sure I would like to pull off an upset or two but at this point I would be satisfied with competitive play
Re: Game 2 - Molloy
This is when you need and expect your POY to man up and produce W's
Go get 'em Green - your team will absolutely need you to be THE leader this weekend - be the guy they can get on the back of and ride to VICTORY

I think they, especially Green, got the message. After the game last night...Polito wrote:This is when you need and expect your POY to man up and produce W's

Green, on playing Florida State next: "We know we’ve got to bring our ‘A’ game… from the beginning of the game."
That came a few minutes after Coach opened last night's postgame presser with:
“We talk about this a lot and I don’t know if our guys really understood it, but maybe after tonight’s experience, they will understand it better — it’s the idea of respect. “When you play this game, you respect yourself, you respect the game and you respect your opponent. Some of those components were missing, maybe all of them were missing that first half. But the second half, I felt like we did that. We played the game the right way.”
Re: Game 2 - Molloy
These games in the Virgin Islands are going to be super interesting...do we bring our A game from start to finish and play competitive basketball or do we get blown out ??
Re: Game 2 - Molloy
Agree with lots of what was said here. Biggest problem is finishing around the hoop, which we saw a TON of last season. Most memorably in the CAA semis. The guys can get to basket really well, but just can't finish the job.
I'm taking this whole game with a grain of salt. Tons of errors you don't want vs. Molloy, but it seems like they were trying new things at times. Especially playing with a very different and undersized lineup for many minutes (i.e. Buie and JWF at the same time).
Paradise Jam can go either way honestly. They just cannot afford to play poorly early again. FSU will put them away right there if they do. If I remember correctly, this team tended to go up early, then slowly lose the lead a lot in the first last year. Starting slow is killer.
