Re: Fall Sports
Again another 5 set win for volleyball. Another great job by Emily and her staff. two freshmen and a soph were big contributors to this win. UNCW was 11-3 coming in and one of the teams picked above Hofstra in the CAA.

Women's Soccer had a big win over Charleston, and Fied Hockey with yet another win today, they have now won 8 games in a row. Next game for the FH team is a big one, against Delaware, ranked in the top 25. Delaware lost to JMU today, a team that's also ranked, but our RPI is actually higher than JMU's. We beat Delaware last year on their home field.

Men's soccer blew a 2 goal lead and lost to Duke 2-3 in double overtime. The team played down a man for a good part of the game thanks to a red card. UNCW and Syracuse both beat Duke this season, and we beat both of those teams.

Hard to play a man down but we did have a two goal lead. This is the second time we have given up multiple goals late in a game. We gave up 3 goal to Darthmouth in the last 5 minutes of a game we lost to them 3-0.

Re: Fall Sports
Men's Soccer is now ranked 14th in the nation, in the new NSCAA poll released today. I'm not sure if those rankings include last night's loss against Duke, and the team is 1st in the midwest region. They are also 14th in the RPI. Women's soccer is still receiving votes in the national poll, and slipped to 3rd in the Mid-Atlantic region, but their RPI improved to 23. Field Hockey RPI makes no sense, the team's RPI last week was 21, and now after winning their 8th straight game and having a 2-0 week, their RPI slipped two places so it's now 23. Most likely because Sacred Heart is such a low opponent, even though we destroyed them.
Meshack Eshun Addy is the CAA Co-Player of the Week for MSOC, Veronika Kostova is the CAA Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, and Claudia Marin-Samper is the CAA Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week. This is the 3rd week in a row that Hofstra has had the FH POW.

That's the reason. The RPI doesn't care about the score.ProudofPride wrote: Most likely because Sacred Heart is such a low opponent, even though we destroyed them.

Volleyball gets swept by Towson. The team shot themselves in the foot with errors. At least each set was close, we lost the first two by 2 points, and the 3rd set by 3. First conference loss, and to a very good team. Hopefully the team will come back hungry against JMU on Sunday.

Re: Fall Sports
Big win for men's soccer last night over Delaware in the last minute of double overtime, a team that's given us a lot of trouble in overtime the past few years. The team moved to a perfect 4-0 in conference. Field Hockey got their first shutout win today and first conference win, 9-0 over Towson, outshooting the tigers 44-3. Women's soccer ended in a tie against JMU. Volleyball embarrassed themselves yet again, blowing a 2 set lead (again, although most other times they've blown it they've at least won the 5th set to win the match) to undefeated in conference JMU. JMU is the one of the top teams in the conference, but this was a winnable game that got away. I'm not sure how this team expects to win when they're still consistently making so many errors. I know they're young, but there should still be some improvement throughout the season. They kept the errors down in the first two sets, which is why they won those, but then made way too many in the next three. 23 attack errors and 7 service errors. Regardless of yet another frustrating loss after being swept by Towson, I'm still very proud of the wins this young team does have, and it should be a fun season next year when almost everyone returns.

Re: Fall Sports
Yeah, they did lose all of their stars from last season, which is why I said I'm proud of the wins they do have. Starting off the conference season 5-0 was nothing short of amazing for this team. However, I'm allowed to be frustrated by this loss. The fact that they were leading two sets to none shows that it was a winnable game, but then they lost 3 straight sets, and JMU didn't have to work for a lot of those points because of our errors. That's just what happens with young teams (hence I also said that next year will be better), but that doesn't make this loss any less frustrating. They had 3 chances to win another set and thus win the match.
I get frustrated when any team loses a game that is winnable, regardless of that team's situation.

FH RPI has dropped down to 27th and is still unranked. MSOC sits at 22nd in the polls and 20th in RPI. Women's soccer looks to be slightly underrated in the polls. They're receiving 2 votes but are 25th in RPI. Volleyball's RPI has fallen down to 138th with those losses. I think we could see a handful of conference championships this year, especially from soccer.

Men's soccer had a frustrating 2OT win over Northeastern last night, but a win nonetheless. Hofstra should've destroyed NU, a team with only 1 win on the season and they're far behind the Pride in the RPI, but our team did not look good. Clearly they're tired and worn out from playing their 4th consecutive double overtime game. Good teams find a way to win, and that's exactly what they did. Tough stretch coming up with two very highly ranked team, Coastal Carolina and Elon. If this team wins at least 1, I have a feeling they're basically a lock for an at-large should they not win the conference tourney.

This is awesome!! Congrats to all of our fall sports teams, even though we already knew that they're firing on all cylinders. They've all (for the most part) have played fairly difficult schedules too, with both soccer teams and field hockey being top 25 in rpi.

Re: Fall Sports
Interesting information on other fall sports teams…
The tennis team does not have a head coach, they've been competing so far this season with only assistants. There is an opening listed on the Hofstra athletics website.
A friend who goes to Quinnipiac sent me a link to an article in their school newspaper. We offered a student a 10k scholarship to run on the cross country team, and he says he would've been our best runner, and the athletic scholarship combined with the offered academic scholarship would've meant he paid almost nothing to go to HU. Instead, he decided he wanted to be part of an overall "better" cross country team, so he decided to try out to become a walk-on at QU. So he's paying his own way at a similarly priced school in the same region (aka not much better conditions this time of year) to run. That doesn't say good things about our program, although I assume the old coach, Peter Alfano offered this kid, not the new one, Vince Giambanco. http://www.quchronicle.com/2015/10/walk-on-warrior/

Men's soccer just knocked of #10 Elon on senior night! 3rd top 25 win for the team. They have basically solidified the top seed with this win.
First top 10 win since 2005.

Wow, what a win. We have a handful of teams that already look like they could push for conference tournaments. Anyone know the most conference championships Hofstra has pulled down in a single year?
