ALL- CAA Basketball team

Post by Captain »

I am thinking that only one player from Hofstra makes the 1st team this year.
I hope the other is second team.
Will Jalen Ray be 1st team or will it be Isaac Kante?
Even though the CAA is a guard league, I think Jalen is the guy.
I am thinking there will be 4 guards and a forward with the forward being Painter from Delaware.
Any comments?

The top five scorers in all games were Matt Lewis (JMU), Jalen Ray, Tyson Walker (NU), Jaylen Sims (UNCW), and Camren Wynter (DU). Sims got injured and played in only 12 games. Those five, Kante, Coburn, Painter (UD), Ryan Allen (UD), Mike Okauru (UNCW), James Butler (DU), Zane Martin (TU), Luke Loewe (W&M), Connor Kochera (W&M), Vado Morse (JMU), Hunter McIntosh (EU), and Zep Jasper (C of C) are seventeen players.

Last season the awards were announced on Friday the day before the CAA Tournament started.

The CAA posted an awards video on YouTube this morning. I refreshed my subscriptions, and it was deleted. https://caasports.com/ doesn't have anything. When the awards are posted, I go to the school websites to find the PDF with the vote amounts. I have the vote amounts for the last six seasons.

So HU got these:

Ray First-Team
Kante Second-Team
Coburn Third-Team, CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award
Cramer All-Rookie Team

Hofstra is the first-ever CAA school to receive both the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award and the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in back-to-back years since the Scholar-Athlete award began in 2003. Coburn is the first player to win both in the same season since Caleb Donnelly of Northeastern in 2015-16 and Hofstra is the first repeat Dean Ehlers recipient since Northeastern in 2014-15 and 2015-16. Coburn was the Scholar-Athlete Award recipient a season ago and Desure Buie received the Dean Ehlers Award in 2019-20.

We didn't live up to the Preseason Poll expectations as a team, but we exceeded the expectations individually. In the Preseason, there is a First Team, Second Team, and Honorable Mentions instead of a Third Team. Kante and Coburn were Honorable Mentions, so Kante exceeded that by making the Second Team. We were the only team with three players. Delaware, Drexel, and James Madison got two, and the other six got one. All ten teams had at least one of the fifteen players, which did not happen in 2014-2015, 2015-2016, and 2016-2017; happened in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019; and did not happen in 2019-2020. We had one player on each team for the third consecutive season. All fifteen players were in the top eighteen in points per game.

Might have if there was a full season for everyone. Tied for first in wins and only two games out overall with four games unplayed for HU.

All that matters though is that they finish first on Tuesday.

Actually Evan Coburn and Ray were Honorable mentions Kante was a pre-season first team pick, Ray exceeded and Kante dropped down from first team to second team. In a crazy shortened season probably could throw a lot of this out the window. Postseason is what counts at the end of the day. 2020-21 CAA MEN’S BASKETBALL PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS
First Team Cl. Pos. Ht. Wt. Hometown/High School (Last)
James Butler, Drexel Gr. F 6-8 242 Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock (Navy)
Isaac Kante, Hofstra Jr. F/C 6-7 240 Brooklyn, N.Y./Paul Robeson (Georgia)
Matt Lewis, James Madison Sr. G 6-5 200 Woodbridge, Va./Bishop O’Connell
Zane Martin, Towson RS-Sr. G 6-4 205 Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti(New Mexico)
Camren Wynter, Drexel Jr. G 6-2 175 Hempstead, N.Y./DME (Fla.) Academy

Thanks for the correction. I knew we had a Preseason First Team and two Honorable Mentions, and I was wrong about which players.

We are the first team in at least seven seasons to have at least three players on the First Team, Second Team, and Third Team combined and a player on the Rookie Team. Before that the CAA has the First, Second, and Third Teams available, but not the Rookie Team. We had a senior on the First Team, junior on the Second Team, sophomore lead in assists per game, and freshman on the Rookie Team. I wonder how many other teams had at least one player from each year start a majority of their team's games. JMU did it with senior Matt Lewis, junior Vado Morse, sophomore Julien Wooden, and freshmen Justin Amadi and Terell Strickland.

Oh definitely. They could lose tomorrow. I wasn't taking anything for granted. I just meant that regardless of whether or not they met any regular-season expectations, all that matters now is finishing first on Tuesday.

Congrats to them all! I don't have a big issue with the results, seems pretty fair I suppose - I'd like to see Kante and Coburn really show out though in the CAAT and really set things straight with top caliber championship performances (and results to match).

With Lewis out, Ray is essentially the best player in the tourney ('on paper') - now's the time to cement it! Rubber meets road, let's goooooooo

Ray and Kante were named to the NABC District 10 All-District Team, (essentially an All-CAA team):

https://gohofstra.com/news/2021/3/16/me ... -nabc.aspx

Scroll down to see District 10:

https://www.nabc.com/nabc_releases/2021/di_all_district

Hofstra is the only District 10 team with two players; no one from Towson was named.
