Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse
Not to put a damper on the win but this St Johns team is weaker than last year with no Mccardle. Still a win is a win.
Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse
This was a very satisfying win. I like how we came back and held the lead once we took it for good.
St. John's plays an aggressive defense and has a wide-open offensive scheme that leverages the midfielders' speed. They lost three games by one goal apiece, including an OT loss to #9 Yale. I wouldn't be surprised if St. John's beats Holy Cross, Marquette, Villanova, and/or Georgetown. They are a very underrated team, whose major weakness might be FO. No. 34 on defense kept Llinares in check for three-quarters.
The post-game press conference featured Llinares (3G, 2A), Davis (3G) and Selva (7 saves), but you could have put FR Dylan Alderman (1G, 3A), Ryan Reilly (5GB, 4CT), FO Kris Clarke (14-21), and Mike Malave (2G) up instead. That's seven players who made key contributions to the win. Good to see the team coming together as we head into league play.
Looking forward to UMass this weekend.

FO has not been our problem this year and I think that Clarke will be the top FO guy in the country by the end of the year.
Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse
Can we move off the topic of coaching changes? The Pride are playing much better and CAA play starts this weekend. Should be a fantastic day of lacrosse, maybe even some decent weather too, be good to see a large crowd support the team.
St. John's is a decent team with talent and great coaching, yes they lost offensive firepower, so did Hofstra, part of the equation. Overall its great to have some positive momentum heading into the first conference game against UMASS. The CAA is up for grabs this year.

Win is a win, take it and run
Not impressed at all, when a traditionally weak unranked lax program like St Johns only loses by 3 and keeps your best player in check thats not too exciting - but have to be happy about any win under ST
I don't fully agree that the CAA is completely bad or completely up for grabs until I see HU beat Towson - or ANY ranked team for that matter
(And quite honestly the coaching change talk should've already been happening so IMO he's fortunate to not have had to hear it yet)
Like every yr, lets see how they do when it matters most

No, Seth Tierney sucks. His job needs to be discussed.LaxPhan wrote:Can we move off the topic of coaching changes? The Pride are playing much better and CAA play starts this weekend. Already down 1-3 at the end of the first quarter against UMass. Selva with ZERO saves so far…
Update: Now down 1-5 midway through the second quarter. Selva still hasn't made a save.

I don't understand why lacrosse goalies don't get yanked more often. I understand that sometimes it's not about the goalie, but he'll give up a dozen and still be in there.

My thoughts exactly. It's worth a shot to put someone else in. At this point, could another goalie really do any worse?HofstraHockey wrote:I don't understand why lacrosse goalies don't get yanked more often. Just got back from work. Looks like Selva had a piss poor game. This drops us to 3-5 on the year with two tough games still on the schedule . They are Cornell and Towson.Even if we win all the other games we will wind up 7-7.
Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse
No excuses for Silva But The UMASS goalie was phenomenal. Check out his stats. Hofstra outshoot them by a good margin, won more face offs, etc. difference was their goalie.
Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse
You can't pin this loss on Selva. UMass's close D shut down our attack for most of the game and we didn't make the most of our scoring opportunities (UMass was flagged 11 times). When you hold a team to 9 goals, you should be able to win.
BTW, Selva made a fantastic save of a point-blank shot by #23 Mariano late in the fourth quarter.

Anyone really still surprised???
Yawn... Its the yearly downfall, same old same old - the difference HUSID isn't the goalie... You know what it is by now
But no worries everyone, the CAA is 'weak' - HUs just biding their time to win it all
Only saving grace to me is if this keeps up hopefully it will force the admins hands - a change HAS GOT to be made

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse
The CAA only has 6 teams so anything more than 2 conference losses will keep us from the CAA tourney and kill our at large bid. The CAA only has two teams with overall records better than .500. We already have a loss against a UMass squad whose record was 2-5 coming into uor game with them. Towson is 6-3 and Fairfield is 5-4. Our next game is away at Delaware. There record is the same as ours. 3-5.

Was just browsing and came to Laxpower.com. Some very bizarre rankings. They have polls, RPI and then Computer rankings which came up first. They have us at 3-5 so it included the home loss to UMass. They have us ranked at #22. We are ahead of Ohio State and UMass who we both lost to. How is this so ? When I went to RPI it was a more realistic #37..

Those rankings are useless.stuball888 wrote:Was just browsing and came to Laxpower.com. Some very bizarre rankings. They have polls, RPI and then Computer rankings which came up first. LOL at people not blaming Selva. C'mon he made 4 flipping saves. I really don't care if they were the 4 best saves in the history lacrosse, 4 for 13 isn't helping the team those aren't even good numbers in baseball. This is how far this program has fallen under Tierney. If a Goalie turned in that type of performance a decade or so ago when there was real lacrosse being played at Hofstra, god almighty that kid would get eaten alive.

The lacrosse team attended a street naming ceremony today for Joe Ferriso.

We beat Delaware 9-5. Malave with a hat trick. Clarke was completely dominate with face-offs.
Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse
Good win for The Pride...took care of business on the road against a CAA foe...our face off guy was awesome...won something like ten of twelve against a senior!

Clarke has never been the problem and I think he will lead the nation in FO pct at the end of the year.
