UNCW surprisingly second in conference, added importance to this weekend.

Re: NET rankings
HU, NE, Drexel close 1-2-3 in Sagarin. NCW 7th. Guess tough to gauge with all the covid posptonements.
Re: NET rankings
This is interesting stuff, the numbers / rankings - some a bit surprising... such a nutty year lol
But as long as HU stays at the top, I'm happy! Yesterday's W helps for sure. Will be really interesting to see what this looks like at the end of the season.

Re: NET rankings
Semi-related to NET, but KenPom is increasingly bullish on our offensive and lower on our defense...Earlier this year Orank/Drank both hovered in the 180s. Now offense is up to 129 and defense has fallen to 217. Interesting considering it's not what the eye test would indicate.

Re: NET rankings
We have blown big lead after big lead this year case in point yesterdays game. We need to be able to finish teams when we have a 15-20 point lead.RollPride15 wrote:Semi-related to NET, but KenPom is increasingly bullish on our offensive and lower on our defense...Earlier this year Orank/Drank both hovered in the 180s. Re: NET rankings
Based on NET and other rankings this weekend's games vs. Dragons are the most important remaining on the schedule.

Re: NET rankings
Now our offense is up to 102nd and our defense has fallen to 254th. Definitely more in line with the usual Joe-era disparity, but I am disappointed in our defense after what seemed like a promising start to the year.RollPride15 wrote:Semi-related to NET, but KenPom is increasingly bullish on our offensive and lower on our defense...Earlier this year Orank/Drank both hovered in the 180s. Re: NET rankings
I think we need to add a few wrinkles to our defense as our zone is becoming very predictable...perhaps if we throw in some man to man for a few minutes like we did last year it would help us make opponents a bit more tentative.
Re: NET rankings
I agree HUSID, would be good to switch it up a little.HUSID74 wrote:I think we need to add a few wrinkles to our defense as our zone is becoming very predictable...perhaps if we throw in some man to man for a few minutes like we did last year it would help us make opponents a bit more tentative.
The HU zone is sooo soft around the FT line, every team just feeds it to that area and we give up the 10-12 footers. Even if for short spurts, I would would like to see man to man mixed in. Having KC and DG at the 4 gives us some decent size to cover that position, and TC or VM at 6'5" are decent size at the 3. I'm sure coach has considered it and has his reasons for not implementing it, but something needs to be done.

Re: NET rankings
Winning all six games may not be enough to get the 1 seed. If Northeastern doesn't have any more postponements or makeup games that were postponed or canceled before, going 4-2 would make them 11-3, which is a better percentage than 14-4. We could have to play a CAA Semifinal at host JMU in the 2-3 game.
Re: NET rankings
Didn't want to create a new thread just for this, but figured it's sort of related to this thread and I found these notes pretty interesting regarding today's new AP poll. I think they underscore just how wide open college hoops is this year and how so many traditional blue bloods are struggling at the same time. Some historic-level stuff with this week's poll:
1) NONE of the 13 winningest programs in D-I history are currently ranked in the AP Poll:
1. Kentucky
2. Kansas
3. North Carolina
4. Duke
5. Temple
6. Syracuse
7. UCLA
8. Notre Dame
9. St John’s
10. Indiana
11. Arizona
12. Utah
13. Cincinnati
2) NONE of the 10 schools with the most total AP Poll appearances all-time are ranked in this week's AP Poll:
928 North Carolina
920 Kentucky
841 Duke
796 Kansas
699 UCLA
656 Louisville
560 Indiana
550 Arizona
550 Syracuse
476 Michigan State
3) Before today, the last AP poll without Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas or UCLA was Dec. 18, 1961. For the first time in almost 60 (SIXTY!) years, all five programs are unranked at the same time.
4) Kansas has dropped out of the AP Top 25. The Jayhawks had been ranked in 231 consecutive AP Poll releases dating back to Feb. 2, 2009. That marked the longest streak of appearances in the poll, which dates back to the 1948-49 season.

Re: NET rankings
To relate it to the NET, the only team Wags listed that is in the Top 25 is Kansas in 22nd.
Re: NET rankings
Great points Wags, and very true, this season is WILD, totally unpredictable across the nation, it's going to be a heckuva tournament!
Interesting to me that HU has most of it's wins against the bottom part of the conf in NET so far, and has done little with the top half yet - this weekend series with JMU is a BIGGIE.
I'm not expecting them to sweep (of course hoping for that), but they need to go at least 1-1. Gotta get some W's against the better teams now.
Definitely could happen Evan, really been hoping for that 1 seed, but to the point above, such a crazy year, it's going to be a wild finish!

Re: NET rankings
Our NET reflects our conference record Yes we split with the middle and beat up on the bottom of the CAA This is the matchup to see where is team stands our other two mat hups are teams near the bottom
