Just a continuation to show where our recruiting emphasis is and how important they view the graduation of Desure. I'm assuming this kid would have to sit but would come in as a junior. He has good size and good numbers in HS but Seton Hall maybe a bit over his head and now that Aiken has transferred the writing is on the wall. Just wonder if this is an indictment of Burgess' skills to run this team or maybe insurance in a very important position on this team??Polito wrote:Piggybacking of tc and many of our thoughts, the staff continues to pursue guards - doesn't look like they share our post desires lol

I wonder... is there any movement expected in the current guard rotation to warrant this clear effort? This staff apparently really wants another guard / wing...

Just as an FYI, the NCAA is deciding in May whether to waive the one year transfer sit-out...would mean this kid will be eligible in 2020-21 if it passes.

I think this is a good thing but I guess the NCAA needs some deterrents in place to stop school hopping.

That one year NCAA transfer sit out is only in place for a few sports. I believe they are: 1) football 2) men's basketball 3) women's basketball 4) baseball 5) men's ice hockey. So, is it possible that only a few of the five gets altered, or do you think it would effect the entire list?

I just saw on VC guard Ray Salnave is transfering from Monmouth. Any thoughts?

Salnave was an excellent HS player at Cardozo, a teammate of Tareq Coburn. Does he have one year left or two? Would have to sit out.

Re: MBB Recruits 2020
Salnave is obviously a good player who was key for Monmouth probably a grad student only 1 year left. He redshirted his true freshman year it appears. So with a team full of guards where does Salnave fit in? He played 28+ minutes this past year averaging 14.5 but don't you think he's possibly looking to go to a big school for his last year. Clearly he's going to want minutes.Jojogunne wrote:Salnave was an excellent HS player at Cardozo, a teammate of Tareq Coburn. Does he have one year left or two? Would have to sit out.

During coach's live youtube last night he mentioned the goal for the last scholarship is to really hit it out of the park. So seems like he is really looking for a stud and not just a bench filler.

I'm glad you mentioned this here I just listened to this he said a kid who they think will be an all conference player. I don't really know who he could be referring to do u think the transfer from Seton Hall or just someone we're still searching for.The kid from Seton Hall is a four star recruit out of HS who hasn't played that much. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.HofstraMathew wrote:During coach's live youtube last night he mentioned the goal for the last scholarship is to really hit it out of the park. Re: MBB Recruits 2020
Now that is some VERY interesting commentary from JM, pretty much clarifies all, the staff is going for a guard/wing and putting the post pursuit to the '21 class.
And super intriguing that they're going for a home run no less! Don't think any of us were of either mindset lol so this is big news.
So my new pondering thought is this: is the HU staff planning to keep TC at the 4 with Cramer backing up, Green redshirting, and they're looking for a starting 3???
This insight by JM, and the 6'4ish size of the targets, would certainly fit that possibility. And would open a ton of starting minutes to lure the right talent level.
Def explains the Betley pursuit. Perhaps he and/or the staff have no desire to move spots his final year after having such success there thus far...
And if that is in fact the plan, then yes either Nelson or Salnave would be takes for me, both very talented and could flourish in this system. The fact that they've started to hone in on '21 recently leads me to believe they're close to sealing the deal on '20. I am intrigued for sure!

I took it as coach just talking in general terms and not having a specific player in mind but who knows.triplec2195 wrote:I'm glad you mentioned this here I just listened to this he said a kid who they think will be an all conference player. This coach and staff know what they are doing. When they decide to zero in on a target they will go after him like a heat seeking missile!triplec2195 wrote:IDK it’s hard to read.

Yes the staff is like a well oiled machine now and building off two very strong back to back seasons.

Re: MBB Recruits 2020
So after thinking about this kid and his HS RESUME this could be a big get for us. IDK if there's any chance of us actually getting him but with Speedy doing the recruiting we always have a shot. So if we were to assume that Coburn will still be playing the 4 now we would have a kid who's versatile and is really a CG he would start at the 3(Sorry Silverio) and would probably pick up minutes as a PG as well(Sorry Burgess). This of course is ASSUMING that he could be eligible right away. That remains to be seen but he would give this team a lot of depth and put us possibly as the front runner to win the conference again. I know there are a lot of assumptions here but what are the thoughts about this?Polito wrote:Piggybacking of tc and many of our thoughts, the staff continues to pursue guards - doesn't look like they share our post desires lol

Re: MBB Recruits 2020
I think it's becoming clear that the staff is hunting a starting guard for this coming season... I see only two reasons:
1) There's a guard on the roster who's moving on.
2) TC is going to stay at the 4 and they are looking to fill the 3. Silverio, I'm pulling for him, but he has not earned the trust to take that spot yet.
The interesting thing to me is, both Nelson and Salnave are seeking PG duties. Cowart is the starting point, I feel quite confident in that. So I think Salnave is more of a CG and could be shown the impact and value of reuniting w/TC and filling the 3 - has the right size and skill set for it.
Nelson is really more of a pure point - he's a dishing machine. He's 6'4 too, so I'm still down for him IF he's down for the 3 - just not sure he has the shooting ability needed in that position.

Has there been any indication that Hofstra has even reached out to Salnave?Polito wrote:I think it's becoming clear that the staff is hunting a starting guard for this coming season... I see only two reasons:

Regarding Nelson; it would seem he would have to sit out a year unless he goes for a waiver. We could be going after him more as help in replacing Ray.

Yes, via his HS coach:HofstraMathew wrote:Has there been any indication that Hofstra has even reached out to Salnave?Polito wrote:I think it's becoming clear that the staff is hunting a starting guard for this coming season... I see only two reasons:

Re: MBB Recruits 2020
In 2016 ESPN ranked the following players in this order Rawle Alkins #1, Shamorie Ponds # 2, Ty Jerome #3 but further down the ratings and ranked at #12 was a kid from Syracuse whose name was Nathan Knight who received a grade of 67. This seems awfully low knowing what we know now maybe because the player really developed and grew during his college years or maybe because the ratings weren't that accurate. Right below him at #13 was our very own Tareq Coburn rated at 66. So where am I going with this don't really know but in this same ratings group at #16 was a kid named Anthony Lamb(65) who went on to have a very nice collegiate career at Vermont. At #18 was this kid Ray Salnave rated a 64 who carved out a nice 3 years at Monmouth. I didn't need to preface this conversation with all this info. but thought it would be interesting. I'm curious as to why Ray Salnave who it seems is either looking for "Greener Pastures" a more well know school with a bigger b-ball program or is looking for a change would transfer to Hofstra. In the business world wouldn't this be labeled a "lateral" shouldn't Ray be looking for a promotion maybe to a P5 program which is what a lot of kids do even though he probably is going to play less minutes. Would his interest here have anything to do with the fact that his HS TEAMMATE plays here or maybe the fact that he comes from Long Island(Elmont) or maybe he knows how good the program is here and likes the coaches. Maybe its all of the above and I for one would like to have him here. It seems that our coaching staff is not that secure with the heir apparent replacing Eli and wants someone to replace him that has experience. Why would Salnave transfer here??
