To answer Shadows question. The most prominate recruit we lost was Quincy Douby who wound up at Rutgers. We went out and then recruited PlayStation Johnson

To stuball888, That seems like many seasons and a few coaches ago that Johnson was a HU player, when exactly was that? So, it does not appear that Coach Joe has lost any recruits that we are aware of during his six seasons as coach.

None that have given us a verbal like Quincy Douby gave to Tom Pecora. The closest for Joe would be Tracey Carter who we recruited hard but went to the Bonnies.

So, PlayStation Johnson must have been over 10 seasons ago for him to have played for Tom Pecora at HU.

I think PlayStation was Stokes’ backup in that era - is that correct.

I’ll never forget that nickname since he was supposed to be so good like a video game. Unfortunately, we never saw that. I think I remember him taking some very bad shots in big situations in his time.

Playstation is the guy that went for a layup when we were down 3 at the end of the 1st game we played in the 2007 CAA tournament.

Not sure why everyone knocks Dwyer. Yes, sometimes he’s overmatched but he’s an experienced upperclassman who is fundamentally very sound. He doesn’t make mistakes or turn the ball over. Rebounds pretty well and knows his role. We’re lucky to have him as a backup 5 given we had to replace both Rok and Sabety.

He had 2 rebounds in 19 minutes against William and Mary. Took 0 shots. We have to expect a little more from our backups.

Coburn has fell off a bit in conference play, I think teams have done a good job adjusting to our 4 guard lineup. We need our backup forwards to give us a little more inside offensively and defensively. Personally, I think a bit of that falls on the coaches to keep our backups involved, every year the rotation gets choked to the point were we have no room for errors or adjustments.

He was a freshman in 2005-2006 when Stokes was a junior. In 2007-2008 as a junior, which was the first season after Stokes and Rivera, he was one of the starting guards along with Agudio and Jenkins. In 2008-2009 as a senior, he was tied for third with 18 starts. We had 10 players with at least 7 starts, and everybody other than Jenkins did not start at least 10 games.

UNC Wilmington has a similar 5 situation as us. They have senior Devontae Cacok starting and graduate transfer Shawn O'Connell as his sub. Today they were on the court together for 9:47, which would never happen with Taylor and Dwyer. Taylor and Dwyer haven't attempted any threes. Cacok and O'Connell have each shot threes 0-for-1.

I'd argue, we have to get ST time at 5 to get Dwyer off the court.
Welp, sold lol. Fair pt FD, and you’re right, there’s nothing else to fall back on - neither Schutte nor Dwyer are CAA level players, so I guess it’s worth a shot - but I maintain that he is not and never will be a 5 - just know that and accept he will be out of position often, he is not nearly big or strong enough to bang inside, and has zero post game, and does not know how to defend the position against true talents CAA bigs.

He has height, he’s athletic, and he he can stretch the opponent out to the 3, which has some value. Would much rather see him coached up at his natural 4 spot, I think that’s his highest value, but absolutely see the point.

HU76, I don’t want to dog the kid, he also has some bit of value in being a smart player, standup young man, rebounds decent, does actually surprisingly block shots well (the WM one was a huge play), he’s just not talented enough to hang in this conf - it’s not sometimes, he gets owned every game - I would wager that HU loses the game during the minutes he’s on the floor - Taylor’s the only one ready, and if he doesn’t have a good game it’s rough in the post

And no, HU isn’t lucky to have Dwyer - recrutiting isn’t luck - they chose to go after him and worked hard to get him here - and I don’t see that as a positive - this was a miss - not the end of the world, but they should have been able to do MUCH better landing guys post Rok and Hunter - had PPENTY of time and hype around Rok to sell it to the right guys. Overall they’ve done a great job with their grads/transfers, won’t hit on every one - but let’s not call this some big success. It’s been a major liability this yr.

WM: not just Pemba, which got them quite pissy (I don’t blame them), it’s also the CAAT tourney game when they beat HU in that incredible game where Thornton kicked out to another guy for the gut wrenching 3 - they talked so much friggin crap and acted like they crushed HU by 50 - there are some real solid fans over there, but there a loud few butthurt ones that need a tuning. Little Napoleons.

I think we/HU respect this conf MUCH more than they respect us, which I find very funny considering HU has been in the hunt nearly every yr with some of the top talent in the league...

And I’m sorry but playing white knuckle pull your hair out triple OT games is not a reason to tout that the CAA is perfect for HU - that’s your media head talking Wags, lol, stop it - I’m not interested in wild thriller games all the time, I am interested in the NCAAT, period end of story. If HU beat every team in whatever conf including this one by 20 every game and went to the tourney every yr I would be ecstatic - couldn’t care less about regular season excitement, I am about championships and dancing for hoops, nada else. THATS exciting :D

Polito, So the W&M fans are upset that an 18 year old changed his mind? The entire circumstances of this decision are not public, and they should not be known. EP never played for W&M, so what is the basis for all this so called animosity? HU has had quite a few recent transfers of front line players to other programs, men's lacrosse, volleyball, and softball come to mind. I do not believe any posters on this board have mentioned any bad feelings about other colleges such as Missouri, Alabama, Syracuse, Iowa, and Penn. I, for one, say good luck to the student athletes. It is a difficult position for HU, but it always presents an opening to a player that wants to attend HU. If W&M is such a wonderful academic well established college, I think you should realize people can change their thinking. Would you feel the same way if the player was a relative?

Nobody's calling Dwyer a "big success". But quality big men are hard to come by in this league and when you graduate both your 5's and get a solid starter and a serviceable backup (who averages almost 4 rpg in 17 minutes and hits his free throws) to fill those roles I'd say that's a positive. His scoring is almost irrelevant with this offense. Taylor only averages 6 ppg.

By the way, Northeastern flat out killing the Mary's. Last I looked, score was 90-70.

They're back!

I hear where everyone is coming from and the truth of the matter is that yes Dwyer is a seasoned ballplayer who has skills and good basketball I.Q. The other truths are he isn't super athletic and has been eaten up at times looking very vulnerable in the post. He's decent from the foul line and the bottom line is that his positives outweigh his negatives IMO. If we didn't have him we would be in big trouble because I would like to know who would spell Taylor. Trueheart or Schutte?? It would be a far worse situation then Dwyer coming off the bench.

It IS possible to have both, you know. That's up to Hofstra (which didn't play enough D before, but finally is so far this year). In the meantime, I'd rather watch much better basketball with the guys Hofstra has than to see those guys go to better schools and have worse players (because they're playing in a lower level league, thus no guarantee that you're winning "by 20 every game and going to the tourney every year"), competing against the like of UMass-Lowell in the America East.
