Re: MBB Recruits 2019
I thought it was a foregone conclusion that Buie was eligible for one more year and Taylor's status was up in the air. True or NO??

Buie is solid. He has his redshirt. Taylor has a good shot at another year. Hofstra is working on it as we speak. A ruling will happen after the season ends. So long as he is registered for classes in the fall. No reason why he can’t get another year. Dion Nesmith got a 6th year as did Marc Petit for Hofstra. Also I believe Lindermann from Drexel was awarded a 6 th year. With all the flack the NCAA get academically they don’t mind giving real student athletes another year of eligibility

Good info. Stu now lets narrow down who we're are potentially going to get in the fold here next year to be our PG of the future. I really like our prospects looking towards next year especially the way that Coburn is playing. We bring Kante and Cramer into the mix and if Taylor gets another year we're looking at a potentially powerhouse team.stuball888 wrote:Buie is solid. He has his redshirt. From what I have seen online this kid has visited instate schools Georgia and Georgia Tech...can not see him choosing Hofstra even if we do have a contactHU87 wrote:The only option on verbal commits is:

Deivon Smith, 2020 PG from Atlanta. I'd assume he'd reclassify/graduate HS early.
He has major, major offers from schools like Florida, Alabama, Georgia and St. Johns....
Re: MBB Recruits 2019
Highly doubt it's him.
Have to say, this is a tough one to sift through, haven't found who I feel confident it is yet... see a few I like, but more sleuthing required!

So there is hope for one of my 7 atlanta Players
Re: MBB Recruits 2019
The future looks quite bright if JAM plays his cards right...making it to NCAA's will only help with recruiting...below is wishful thinking of a Pride fan...lol
Next season starting lineup:
1 Buie
2 Pemberton
3 Coburn
4 Kante
5 Taylor [if he is granted another season]
I like Ray coming off bench as 6th man providing offense/spark... also have Trueheart...Cramer...Hughes...coming off bench...if JAM can land PG of future [to back up Buie next season and start the 3 years after that ] and a legitimate 5 who can contribute some next season and develop over a 4 year career this program is going places...does not appear KS and MR fit into plans as far as PT is concerned...also unknown at this point what Cramer and Hughes can potentially provide next season...even without Cramer and Hughes we have a solid 7 [Buie, Pemberton, Coburn,Kante,Taylor,Ray,Trueheart] with more depth hopefully to be provided by PG recruit and center recruit

I love that lineup - that is a true 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 and 5 line up as opposed to 3 guards and 2 forwards! That is with assumption of Taylor gets us a another year - if JT doesn't get another year and you slide Truehart in there - I am still OK with that 5 - different but still OK with it.garyg wrote:The future looks quite bright if JAM plays his cards right...making it to NCAA's will only help with recruiting...below is wishful thinking of a Pride fan...lol

Hughes is a sweet shooting big - wouldn't mind hearing about we are seeing from him in team practices and scrimmages - hope he has some game down low and on the D end.
Going into 2019-20 we are going to need some backcourt help/recruits to keep this pipeline primed. and they certainly can sell a recruited PG playing time when Buie leaves and sell him on a pretty solid/experienced front-court his play career. We are fairly deep in the frontcourt for the next few years (Coburn '21; Truehart '21; Kante '22; Hughes '23; Cramer '24).

I wonder if there's any possible connection to the PG we're recruiting from the Atlanta area and the fact that we got Kante as a transfer from the University of Georgia. I wonder if who we're recruiting from that area is in any way connected to Kante. I know he's from Brooklyn but just playing detective right now. I guess groping for straws.stuball888 wrote:So there is hope for one of my 7 atlanta Players

Taylor having another year of eligibility would be great. I am not sure I see Kante starting at the 4. I think we might see him more off the bench. Probably start coburn and ray. But anything can change between now and then. Cramer seems to be a possible red shirt candidate.
If we can then land a backup PG and a backup PF. It would give us a solid rotation for next year with players in the pipeline for down the road.

I think we're going after either Hunter McIntosh or Mekhail Bethea out of Atlanta, just based on their style of play. Seem to be high character guys that would fit in as well.

Re: MBB Recruits 2019
Or maybe Isaac Martin 6-5 CG out of Norcross HS.
Comes from the same school as Jordan Goldwire, who we were recruiting hard two years ago. He's a lefty too, which we always look for. He's kind of coming on late, just transferred to Norcross, has a few D-1 offers from App St, Austin Peay, Fla Gulf Coast... but Tulane's looking as well now, we may be in on him too.

Re: MBB Recruits 2019
So Flying Dutchmen I'm curious as to what reference source you're using to get this info. on PG in Georgia. As to comments about next years starting team and who's getting what minutes I also believe that Kante will be taking Dwyer's minutes and the 5 will be divided between him and Taylor. I don't think we should count out Cramer for the coming year unless he's physically unable to play. It seems he has a nice H.S. pedigree with big schools recruiting him and he might be the surprise of 2019. It certainly appears that 2019 we look to be loaded at least as far as starters and we will have a lot of experience but right now its hard to envision A TEAM without JWF. He's such a dynamic player and exciting to watch.
Re: MBB Recruits 2019
Nope, as I've said on the boards before, he's connected with Speedy.triplec2195 wrote:I wonder if there's any possible connection to the PG we're recruiting from the Atlanta area and the fact that we got Kante as a transfer from the University of Georgia. Next year you can count on Kante starting...Joe loves him and Ray will slide in to Justin's spot

Does coach see him as a 4 or a 5?HUSID74 wrote:Next year you can count on Kante starting...Joe loves him and Ray will slide in to Justin's spot
Re: MBB Recruits 2019
Cmon guys, we all have seen how joe loves to have a 4 who can shoot the 3. From what I understand, Kante does not have that type of game. I think that is why HU is intrigued with Hughes (tall and long who can drain the 3). I still see ST, TC, and HH or some combination of them playing in the 4 spot. That being said, there of course could be minutes where TC is at the 3 or Kante plays the 4 (assuming JT has another year), but the bulk of 4 spot playing time will mimic this year, IMO.HofstraMathew wrote:Does coach see him as a 4 or a 5?HUSID74 wrote:Next year you can count on Kante starting...Joe loves him and Ray will slide in to Justin's spot
I'm kind of projecting some details that I really cant back up, but I'm envisioning Kante to come in and be just like Cacok from UNCW. Cacok is 6'7" and about 240. He's very strong inside and is very tough off the glass. And yes, 6'7" is not your prototypical center, but a guy with talent and strength (even at 6'7") can be very successful in the CAA and playing against most of our OOC opponents. I would take Cacok in a hearbeat - so I'm hoping for a clone!

Cards - completely agree. That’s why I asked the question. If joe is saying Kante will be a starter it may seem to imply no extra year for Taylor.

Re: MBB Recruits 2019
If Kante is starting and Taylor gets another year which seems likely what happens to Coburn?? I think right now we have to assume that Coburn is starting considering what we've seen from him this year. I have to feel then that Ray is the odd man out and will be coming off the bench. Just my opinion and I like what Ray brings to the table. As Joe has said a million times "its not who starts but who finishes the game". Food for thought and a very good dilemma to be in next year for Joe.
