There was a Blue and White scrimmage?

Saw the team in action last Sunday at the Blue and White scrimmage...they had three referees and went pretty hard. Best player on the court by far is Justin, but that is no surprise. Really impressed with Coburn and his ability to score inside...he is a strong 6-5 and could see him starting ahead of Truehart. Taylor is big, athletic and can score, rebound and block shots around the hoop...could be more aggressive but we'll see...heard a lot of good things about Dwyer but he did not stand out in the scrimmage. Pemberton did not play but I heard he was practicing. Jalen Ray left early for more work on his hamstring...that seems to be the only significant injury right now.

All in all I think we are deeper and more athletic than last year...looking forward to a CAA contending season!

Does Coburn have outside shot as well ??

Dont love that he could beat out Truehart - I like talent and size! Now if he can D at 6'5" like Mahlik Nicols did then I could be OK.
A deeper/more athletic team is always a good thing.

It's bad if Trueheart loses playing time because he's worse than last season, but if 80 minutes for the 4 and 5 can be divided 25-20-15-15-5 where even the fifth forward is worthy is playing in most games, that's good. In some recent seasons Hofstra wouldn't have had enough players to scrimmage 5 on 5.

The Sagarin has us 144th. Northeastern leads in 106th, and Drexel is last in 241st. The CAA is the only conference without a team in the Top 100 or Bottom 100. Division I is up to 353 teams, so the Bottom 100 is 254th or worse.

So my take on this as far as Trueheart is concerned just because he could lose playing time doesn't necessarily mean he's worse then last year. Coburn had to sit out last year and maybe he has crazy game. I've heard his name mentioned quite a bit including the coach. You now also have an experienced 4 in the name of Dwyer so this could just be a lot of competition and a numbers game. It's not necessarily an indictment on Trueheart. So if Sagarin has us at 144 and NE at 106 I'll just throw this out Do you really believe that there are 105 teams better then NE and 143 teams better then us. Maybe I'm just being naive or find it hard to swallow but I'd like to be more optimistic then that. Just my gut feeling.

I got the link to the Newsday article on Dwyer from facebook. When I went on-line and accessed the paper that article wasn't in the paper. Maybe I looked at the wrong day??

Totally with you on this. It's much more important to get into the tournament then Justin getting 30 points a game. I'm sure that even he would agree with that.

I agree. I've seen rankings that have parity in the CAA. Another thing to keep in mind is that the average record doesn't match the record from the most likely outcome for each game. The sum of the probabilities of winning the away games is high enough that the average away wins will be significantly higher than 0 and the average home losses will be significantly higher than 0. In the Sagarin, for 32 of the 45 matchups of CAA teams (10 teams * 9 opponents/2 teams in each game), the gap is small enough that the worse team would be favored at home. To compare, the Big 12 has the same amount of teams and the same schedule format, but the worse team would be favored at home only 15 times.

Jerry Beach wrote that in the 17 seasons Hofstra has been in the CAA, the team picked third (which Hofstra was) has had 3 NCAA Tournament appearances and an average finish of 4.88. That doesn't sound good, but the 3 NCAA Tournament appearances include George Mason and VCU's Final Fours.
