The slam dunk contest will be shown Sunday on CBS at 3:30. Elijah Pemberton tweeted that he lost in the finals, but that is still an awesome showing for him, and it'll be on national tv, which is great publicity for both him and Hofstra! His school tweeted videos of his dunks. Here they are if anyone wants to watch them before the big event actually airs.

Heard from a very reliable source that Hofstra has a "real" shot at landing Justin Simon as opposed to it being a long shot...we are very much in the running...that is all I can say at this point

Does not mean he is going to transfer to us but means we are one of the schools he is seriously considering...Hofstra is not just a name on his list...I got this info from the same source that provided me with the EP info....if you recall most on this board thought EP was a done deal for William & Mary...my source told me that was not true and that EP was going to visit Hofstra...we know how that turned out....lets just call it a reliable source....can you imagine a roster with Pembo...Buie...Simon...and JWF....talk about athleticism...quickness....and versatility...Simon would have to sit out one year but think about the following season...the 4 I just mentioned along with Rokas..Sabety...Greer...Robinson...Walker..and whoever else we bring in...that type of lineup could potentially put us in top 25

I have been out on vacation - and tried to stay away from posting. Great news on Greer - exactly the type of guy we need. Love to see another wing in this recruiting class.

Adding Simon would simply be awesome. We shall see.

Got to hand it to JM - his recruiting has been top notch. No more classes filled with 2 star guys. Last year and now this year we are getting players that lots of other good MBB schools would love to have. Keep it up Joe!

Could Simon be a Golden State Warrior fan. Speedy played for them as did Charles Jenkins. Speedy was also a scout for them.

He also has St. John's on his list and is visiting there, so he may have an interest in the area, perhaps even relatives or another connection. If he can be a dominant player here, the NY media will be all over him which will only help his chances of playing professionally after college.

I've been trying to figure out the Simon connection to HU, haven't found anything concrete yet...but there is definitely something causing this serious look - would be great to land the young man - he has to sit a year, and there will be PT available esp for a 6'5 guy with a 6'11 wingspan - he's obviously a big talent, just didn't pan out for the role he was put in at AZ (it was def a role issue, I've read extensively on it - he's considered a talent and a great young man both on and off the court - THAT is the kind of transfer that HU goes for)

can play and guard 1-3, strong rebounder, excellent at getting to the hoop and finishing and drawing contact - big body guard - could be a monster at the CAA level, which I think gives HU a real shot

He's not a big time scorer though as he needs more development on his mid and deep range shots - because of that, I'm not so sure he's a major P5 kind of guy, despite the fact that he's actually a 5 star player - he has clear ability, but where it translates best is the question

To me, if he truly wants better development and real PT to make a real impact, he needs to look at HU and this level - he will not see the floor at 75% of the schools he listed - SJU is going after him, but again, is it the best fit? I don't know. Curious to see how this plays out for HU...

The 4/8 visit of Aleem Ford is huge - I'm getting the impression Richmond is making a big push, because their primary guy Andre Wesson is getting major P5 offers that will likely push the Spiders out, and they need wing forwards like HU does - his twitter page has a Richmond blog hitting him up for an interview - they could be adjusting to really go after him now - BUT he is their secondary choice, and needs to know that - he's viewed as a guy who will still have to redshirt there - he may or may not at HU too, so it's not a clear-cut advantage either way - at HU my bet is his impact will be bigger and occur much sooner - HU needs to land that commit when he's on campus - he doesn't leave without a verbal!!!

EP is friggin incredible, the athleticism is through the roof - he's second dunk is one of the best I've ever seen, HS or college - he has a beautiful combo of smoothness and power - I am super pumped to see him poster-ize the CAA - could be HU's very own Billy the Kid: "I'll make ya famous!"

Bob the fact that we got Greer speaks volumes for this coaching staff. Just need another wing and we will be deeper than last year. Enough depth to make another run at a CAA title.

Pemberton looked great on CBS...Not only with his basketball skills but he comes across as a real classy kid...getting back to Justin Simon he played at Brewster Academy the year before he began college

The latest article on Greer from a Chicago outlet, updated as of 4/2 - confirms the commit, and gives some other details and quotes:

https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/2016032 ... on-i-hoops

Also, I think we're seeing JM and Co. adjust/focus their recruiting on finding big scorers that also play strong D - this class of recruits and targets all have reports of a strong defensive game, and the ability to guard against multiple positions - there's a big need for HU to have and develop more complete players for a more complete team

Even a traditionally 4 guard-centric offensive power team like Nova proved that you still MUST have good D to go anywhere of significance. Hoping it has sunk in at HU - if last yrs squad played anything resembling a quality effective defense, it would've won the CAA going away.

I'm looking forward to seeing what an offensive power HU team can do when it also plays solid D!

Now with March Madness over and LOI signing rapidly approaching [begins April 13th] recruiting is really going to heat up...between HS SENIORS, JC players, and transfers who knows what Hofstra will do with 3 remaining schollies...
