Tough start but with many new faces I would imagine will be some early growing pains. Simon is as solid a coach as there is and hopefully team will be hitting stride when it matters most in CAA play.

Yeah picking up right where they left off, stinking up the joint. This program needs to get it together - Simon is a very good coach, but he cannot turn in back to back poor seasons. I went to a couple of games last year and they were awful. Can't sugar coat it. We are a soccer family, so it sticks out.
And seeing the goalie made all of 2 saves game 1 isn't impressive giving up 3. A bad start for sure.
And this schedule is WEAK. Again. This program isn't challenging itself and it's losing to boot.
I do see some good young talent on the team, but takes time for freshman to grow - where are the impact upper classmen and transfers??? What was done in the offseason??
This may sound a little funny because yes they played in the conf champ game last year and it was a 2-1 game, but this is a pretty weak conf, and this team limped into that game, they were terrible on the road, and they couldn't score (somehow they actually beat this St Joes team last year). This program needs to be better considering it's history and top coach.
Just game 1, so obviously a lot of soccer to go here and I do believe they'll improve. But this is a pretty important year, I would've expected them to come out stronger to make a statement. Good thing is it isn't how you start it's how you finish, and they can still be good - just a long way to go.

Re: hofstra womens soccer 2026
We actually didn't play in CAA finals but dropped 2-1 heartbreaker overtime to Stony Brook in a CAA North Division quarterfinal but it is confusing way is listed on schedule saying CAA Championship so can see where the confusion came in. Had we won that we would have been one win away from finals though and we were just starting to find our rhythm late in year so is a shame they didn't get that chance. I would also say we have an overall solid non-conference schedule as Ivy League a very solid conference in women's soccer with Brown especially often a highly-ranked program. There are 13 new players on roster so I expect a slower start this season but as long as playing our best soccer in CAA schedule that is what matters.Polito wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2026 12:50 pm Yeah picking up right where they left off, stinking up the joint. Thanks HP1, appreciate the correction - unfortunately makes it even worse lol - feels like an important year here for Simon. He's a stud coach, but these are very different times, everyone is in a yearly proving state - this was a poor start, and a draw today vs Columbia (again I can't stand playing that school in anything...)
50-50 on whether that game was progress or continued concern - probably a concern until we see some offense and some wins

Columbia and Ivy League in general is very strong in general. Given we were without our top defensive player and were trailing today's tie is a good result.Polito wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2026 5:12 pm Thanks HP1, appreciate the correction - unfortunately makes it even worse lol - feels like an important year here for Simon. Re: hofstra womens soccer 2026
Eh, so-so HP1 - not a terrible program per say, but HU is also a program that should mostly be winning.
And I'd say it's official, this program is in a rut - another awful performance by the ladies - Simon absolutely shredded every one of them in the presser - I appreciate the real talk vs the coach speak - he's obviously a top notch coach, but this is also on him - 2 years in a row now of poor play, soft players, no offense, bad goalkeeping, and weak defense - gotta get it together - clear to me enough wasn't done in the offseason both in terms of personnel and development. Hoping Simon's blatant call out of his players was purposeful and designed to put a fire under their collective butts. This is simply not Hofstra soccer and not up to the standard of this program.
Like I said, it's a new era, and something needs to change in this program. HS recruiting got a couple of solid kids, but they must pull better from the portal. Seeing no impact transfers on this squad thus far.
And the priority going forward needs to be finding players who aren't afraid of contact. They've got 0 killers. Afraid, soft, backing off, just like last year. Wherever we are pulling these players from, we need to find different programs that teach their girls physicality and how to win plays. My 11 and 12 year old daughters play more physical, and when they don't throw a shoulder or hip check an opponent when they should, my wife and I are on their butts like white on rice. Despite the pansy flailing around in euro soccer, this game is actually very physical and it's supposed to be.
These girls need to get out there and knock someone on their ass. And they need someone to do it to them in practice to force the change.

Re: hofstra womens soccer 2026
There is no sugar coating it Polito that this is shaping up to be potentially very bad season by Hofstra standards. They have had remarkable consistency over the last three decades with only two missed conference tournaments since 1999 in 2006 and 2016 and haven't had a losing season since 1996. Clearly the latter is in jeopardy now but good news is we are 0-0 in CAA
Re: hofstra womens soccer 2026
We got our first win 3-2 at Yale. It was the first time we came back from down 2 to win since a 5-4 win at Yale on September 4, 2015. Yale scored at 0:44 and 10:17. Samantha Brett scored at 43:26 (1:34 before halftime). Emma Johnson scored at 87:03 (2:57 left). Amy Meadows scored at 88:48 (1:12 left). We had more shots 10 to 7, and more shots on goal 5 to 4. We have 1 win, 1 tie, and 3 losses.

Great character win against very solid Yale program. Hopefully this serves as confidence boost and gets team rolling as we get closer to CAA play.

Re: hofstra womens soccer 2026
Agree the way this team has been so anemic on Offense to come back from the dead speaks volumes. It gets us off the snide and gives us some momentum going in to our next game. Simon has never had a losing season here so hopefully we will turn it around.
Re: hofstra womens soccer 2026
Good comeback win vs Yale, much needed - unfortunately they promptly dropped 2 very disappointing games to FDU and Brown right after - this program remains broken in my eyes until I see the consistency we've grown accustom to with Simon - last year and this one have left a lot to be desired - I think we need to revamp our recruiting. This is not up to standard, and I really hope this staff audits things in full, including themselves, and corrects this next season. Tough love here, but to be frank this isn't even worth the calendar juggling, the time, or the energy to watch.
1-5-1 so far is straight up awful against a very pedestrian schedule for a traditionally mid power HU program. Especially coming off a very disappointing 6-5-7 season against another very mediocre schedule. Not playing any top teams, ranked squads, or world beaters. Gotta fix it Simon.

Re: hofstra womens soccer 2026
Despite the loss yesterday Brown game was encouraging as that is a legit team who just a week ago dismantled 13th-ranked Central Florida 7-0 and Hofstra was right there toe-to-toe. Hopefully can end non-conference play on good note against Seton Hall Thursday and then CAA schedule offers a fresh start.
Re: hofstra womens soccer 2026
We got a 0-0 hosting Seton Hall. Each team had 1 shot in the first half, and 8 shots in the second half. The shots were not too scary as we had 1 shot on goal, and Seton Hall did not have any shots on goal or corner kicks. Seton Hall entered with 4 wins, 1 tie, and 0 losses. We now have 1 win, 2 ties, and 5 losses.

https://gohofstra.com/boxscore.aspx?path=wsoc&id=14470 is the box score. The attendance was 165.
Our next game is our CAA opener hosting Towson on Sunday September 20 at 1:00 P.M. Towson has 3 wins, 2 ties, and 3 losses.

Re: hofstra womens soccer 2026
I watched the 2nd half on MSG last night, and listened to Simon's post-game. I am very inclined to believe that this team just doesn't have the talent needed. This is really a poor year on the heels of another - in fact this one so far is even worse record-wise. Simon went from (I think) trying to tough-love motivate the girls by calling them out a couple of weeks ago to being much more reserved and overall supportive now. My belief is that he sees what I see, that this just isn't the group that's going to get it done.
I saw a team that doesn't shoot the dang ball - it's unreal - whenever they actually maneuver the ball decently up the field, it just dies whenever it's near the box. The urgency, the aggression, the attack, it just fizzles like no one wants to score.
The goalie last night also left a lot to be desired. Overall weak kicks, and constantly booting the ball wildly off course to nowhere, the other team, or out of bounds. She did not impress. Also saw a lot of inaccuracy in our passing or sending the ball up the field from a variety of players. Just some really terrible balls and decisions for that matter that completely killed plays.
Again, I just don't think this team is up to snuff. I've already said Simon needs to elevate recruiting, and this game didn't dissuade me. They've definitely had some rough calls go against them, agree with Simon there, but this team also just isn't getting it done - they looked spent last night - they look frustrated - the energy level is very low players and staff - they look like the confidence is dwindling and I think Simon feels it as well (behind the scenes of course) - it's hard to watch them and think the talent is there or that this team is sneaky good. Watching them so far gives me 'mid' vibes.
Simon said their luck will turn, man, I'm just not there - I'm also pretty concerned that we are depending on luck to have a decent year when we needed this to be a clear bounce-back - that right off the bat is not good.
Now they stunk last year too and still made the CAA playoffs - may happen again - season isn't over, and conf play is just about to start. But this team looks off, and they need to take a significant step forward to do what this program should be doing... winning the CAA.

Re: hofstra womens soccer 2026
Non-league play went about as bad as can be record wise, but good news is it is a fresh slate starting Sunday. This first game against Towson is crucial though and is essential they come out of it with no worst than a draw because otherwise you are really fighting upstream to make the CAA Tourney in a tough north division. Is too bad that weather doesn't look ideal Sunday.
Re: hofstra womens soccer 2026
We won 2-1 hosting Towson. https://gohofstra.com/boxscore.aspx?path=wsoc&id=14314 is the box score. Emma Johnson scored at 3:43, Towson's Kale'a Perry scored at 15:56, and Amy Meadows scored a penalty kick at 34:42. Jessica Martin got a yellow at 78:14, and another yellow shortly after to get ejected at 79:46. Towson did not score while up a player.

A nice win for us and for anyone who listens to Simon's post pressers his emphasis more then the game continues to be about the officiating. He has said so in a prior presser but he believes bad officiating has cost them some games. He commented on the double yellow card and just continues to berate the officiating. He seems to be overjoyed that this team can score two goals and based on the prior scores you can see why.
