Baseball in CAA Playoffs

Post by HUSID74 »

Amazing to me that no one has posted about this team all year. Quietly this team has played very compeitive baseball qualifying for the CAA playoffs.
We open against Charleston today at 12 noon.

I don't follow our baseball team as much as I should and they have good local talent. Today they beat Charleston 13-0 on 11 hits. They had two 6 run innings. A nice way to start the tourney.

It ended in 7 innings due to the mercy rule. 6 seed UNCW, who is hosting, defeated 3 seed Monmouth 5-0. Mason Ruh, who did not pitch more than 3 innings in a regular season game, pitched a shutout with 1 hit allowed. Monmouth's hit started the second inning, so nobody was thinking about a no hitter. UNCW had the better RPI. We play Northeastern tomorrow (May 21) at 7:00 P.M. We are 150th in the RPI, and Northeastern is 96th. Charleston had a better overall and CAA record, but they are 158th in the RPI, so both of today's games had the worse seed have the better RPI. It was our first postseason shutout. Charleston's starter allowed 7 runs including 6 unearned runs. Tomorrow has three games. At 11:00 A.M., Charleston plays Monmouth, and the loser is the first team eliminated to make five teams left. At 3:00 P.M. Campbell plays UNCW. If we beat Northeastern our game after that will be Friday (May 22) against the winner of Campbell vs. UNCW at 7:00 P.M. If we lose to Northeastern and Campbell defeats UNCW, we will be the better seed of the Games 4 and 5 losers, which would let us skip Game 6 and play Game 7 on Friday at 3:00 P.M. If we lose to Northeastern and UNCW defeats Campbell, we will be the worse seed of the Games 4 and 5 losers, which would make us play Game 6 on Friday at 11:00 A.M., and then again at 3:00 P.M. if we win Game 6. Since we play last tomorrow, we will start the game knowing what happens if we win and what happens if we lose. https://caasports.com/tournaments/?id=263 is about the Tournament.

3 seed Monmouth defeated 4 seed Charleston 7-2, and Charleston is eliminated. Charleston led 2-0 after two and a half innings. 1 seed Campbell defeated 6 seed UNCW 3-1. That means that if we beat Northeastern, we play Campbell tomorrow (Friday) at 7:00 P.M., and if we lose to Northeastern, we play the winner of Monmouth vs. UNCW tomorrow at 3:00 P.M., which will be our opponent's second game of the day and our only game of the day.

https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=660435 will have statistics for our game against Northeastern.

There must be something in the water at UNCW
After beating number four, Charleston 13-0
We just beat number two Northeastern by score of 6-0

We scored 3 in the top of the first to lead the whole game. Joseph Curreri got his first win.

Tomorrow at 7:00 P.M. we play 1 seed Campbell, and two more teams will be eliminated before then. We will be in the final three.

Well ok then, I don't follow our baseball much, but this is great to hear - look to be playing strong at the right time - this is a sport I've felt we don't really "need" at HU, just not great for northern weather and we'll never have what the south does, but hey it's still kicking so why not let's see a winner! Rooting them on for sure - still remember the stud run that SBU put together years ago, would take that for our HU fellas all day if they can continue the magic!

So far a great performance, two shutouts! I like this program...Catalanotto does a great job with not very much talent...they hustle, are aggressive and make the right plays.
All credit to the coach!
And Polito we did win the CAA acouple of years back...great run!

Yes, I remember. I think we beat Northeastern if I'm not mistaken on a hit by pitch.

The year was 2022, not so long ago.

It is raining in Wilmington. Today's first game was delayed from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., and weather.com says light rain at 2:00 P.M. and stopping after that. If all of today's games are delayed three hours, we will start at 10:00 P.M., and have to play at 1:00 P.M. if we lose. To avoid that, the CAA should do one of two things. They could rescheduled tomorrow's games from 1:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M., or they could postpone what is supposed to be today's last game to tomorrow and postpone what is supposed to be tomorrow's last game to Sunday. They cannot play what is supposed to be today's last game tomorrow without postponing tomorrow's last game because one team could be in all three games.

The Selection Show is Monday at 12:00 P.M. on ESPN2.

Edit: It is after 2:30 P.M., and the first game has not started. I think the CAA should postpone our game.

Edit: The first game is now scheduled for 4:00 P.M. There was lightning.
