With our win over Monmouth today and UNCW win over Campbell in first game of a doubleheader, we have clinched the #1 seed in the upcoming CAA tournament!

Wow, have to chime in and give the well-earned kudos, way to go ladies! Heckuva a way to finish out the regular season - snagging that #1 seed is a big boost for NCAAT chances - after a rough start and some questionable patches, this team has a chance to make it a truly special year and this program back up to par of winning titles and playing in the tournament - pulling for them, would be a strong feather for SCL's yr 1!

Need to take advantage of the top spot and go put the finishing touch on this CAA season with a crown!

We set a personal CAA record with this win being our 20th against only 3 losses. Our previous high in the CAA was 19 back in 2012. Madison Steppe goes the distance giving up only 2 hits striking out four and giving up 1 run. She's now 9-0 in the CAA having a really good freshman year. Gemma D'Orazio home run the highlight of this game our 40th of the season compared to only 19 last year. Also our 229th RBI of the season compared to 175 last year. Just an outstanding season for the softball team and hopefully we can carry this over in to the tournament.

BTW I was at this game and Stu made a guest appearance for a few innings but was nice to chat with Rick Cole who showed up and in attendance was of course Bill Edwards and our president Dr Poser. I'm hoping that she's just not making token appearances but is behind our sports programs here. It would mean a lot and judging by our upgrades at the Mack and the redo of our softball field she's onboard and a big supporter.

On Senior Day, we defeated Monmouth 10-2 on the mercy rule. We went 21-3 in the CAA, which is our best CAA record since we went 18-2 in 2013, which was our previous regular season title. We got the 1 seed in the CAA Tournament at Elon, and we will have off on the first day on Wednesday. The tournament has six teams, and it is from Wednesday to Saturday. Monmouth is one of five teams that did not make the CAA Tournament. The CAA did not post the schedule yet.

Our biggest obstacle(s) will be either Campbell or UNCW. We lost 2 of 3 to Campbell and didn't play UNCW. Campbell is a very good hitting team with one really good pitcher. It should be interesting.

Freshman Madison Steppe picks up rookie of the week honors for the second time this year pitching a 1 hitter against Monmouth. Outstanding regular season for Madison hopefully she carries this over in to the CAA tourney. She's now 9-0 in CAA play. https://gohofstra.com/news/2026/5/4/sof ... honor.aspx

First I want to put some things in prospective
Yes, we had 21 wins, which is a record for the CAA
We played 24 conference games this year
In the past, it was 21 games
So unless the team went undefeated, it was the only way they could win 21 games
I think we won 19 once and 18 under the Bill Edwards
This is not to take anything away from Susan Cassidy Lyke
Now let's go to another subject. I think Madison Steppe had a great year for a freshman
Yes, her record was 9-0 in the CAA this year
But not to take anything away from her, but she did not pitch against the aces of the other teamS that fell on Emma Fallon, our senior
Next year, I expect Madison to step up in the aces role

We would be remiss if we didn't mention the seven players that received all CAA awards. Kudos to them. https://gohofstra.com/news/2026/5/5/sof ... onors.aspx

This is all awesome to see, and is at least a strong indication we are getting back to the level HU softball should be at. Great to see the plethora of awards, well-deserved, and really gives a foundation to build on, esp if this group returns intact!

Now, as Stu noted, there is some context here to level set - there's a few things that are an * with this great season - not to take away from them, but to put things into perspective and where I've been coming from. Setting the win record is very cool, but there isn't a chance in you know where that this is the best CAA team HU has had - not even close. It's the most wins because they played the most games and this conf is soft overall compared to the past. Edwards would've annihilated this weak schedule and likely wouldn't have lost a game with his typical roster. And as mentioned here they didn't play the W and didn't do well vs Campbell. A successful year 1 in conference, no question and kudos to the ladies across the board, but there's a lot of opportunity for needed improvement in year 2.

For now though, this is a strong resurgence statement for the first year, and they can put the cement on this season by winning the crown and going to the tournament. Do that, and the *'s matter a lot less - go get 'em ladies!!

Obviously a bad way to start the tourney. We had a 1 run lead going in to the last inning and have won games like this all year. After bringing in Madison Steppe we should have been in a good place but walks wild pitch and an error let them tie it and more confounding is the the replacing of Steppe with pitcher Julian Locher who had pitched a total of 7 innings prior to this in CAA games. She had a 4 ERA AND THE FIRST BATTER SHE PITCHES TO SHE GIVES UP A 2 RUN HOME RUN.

Also the coach pinch hit for Nicole Cancel who had struck out in the 2nd inning with 2 runners on 2nd and 3rd with just 1 out. She has Frobosilo pinch hit who has a batting average of .150 with a total of 3 hits in 20 at bats. She wound up striking out. Just don't get that sub but I'm sure vthe coach had her reasons. Very disappointing now we have to play UNCW today being in the losers bracket.

Charleston just shut out Campbell to clinch a spot in the CAA championship game:

We have to defeat UNCW and Campbell today to face Charleston tomorrow.
