Speedy just posted on Instagram a picture of him with his arm around Cruz Davis with a title "We're just getting started". Does it mean much? Maybe not but figured I'd throw it out there.
Fingers crossed would obviously be MASSIVE if it means what we think/hope.
To the just getting started point, whoever runs the GuardU twitter account doing yeoman's work tracking some of names Hofstra has reportedly reached out to already. Lots of size, and a couple P5 end of bench guys....
LOVE that post. Speedy to his credit has built himself a reputation and kids want to get their start here - we may not be able to keep them, but we are positively viewed as a premier jump off point, and that's a good thing that we can win with. A return of Cruz, although he drives me crazy, would certainly go a long way to stabilizing the team for next year.
I think it would be a shame to see Roberts go, he's got potential, and with Edmead out he could be a key piece and see plenty of minutes to make an impact, even with Cruz.
Fully agree that until there is structure put in place it will be safe to consider all players 'exploring' until they make their 'run it back' announcement. Just brutal - saw that Tennessee's ENTIRE women's team is out - I mean this is just ridiculous
Really hope Lopez is fully healthy and returns to his uber potential talent
Either way, HU like nearly ever program in the country needs to be full tilt in the portal during this brief window - have to rebuild the roster right now.
That list is a GREAT find, thanks for sharing it! My take on a few:
- Do not sleep on JUCO Jaiden Reynolds, athletic wing with plenty of skill, take him all day.
- Jaquay Randolph is a 1st team baller, will have plenty of suiters, would be a great get. Athletic stretch 6'10, would eat in the CAA.
- Forsythe a former 4 star top PA kid - 3 point specialist - Germans spot - not super athletic, a bit limited outside of 3's.
- Jay Rodgers seems the quintessential PG type that Speedy turns star. I'm not sold yet, but he fits the mold.
- CJ Beaumont a versatile F, can get up and down the floor, dig that at 6'9. Shown stud flashes, just not consistency yet.
Sure there are others beyond this list, great to see lots of size and lots of athleticism - Speedy's on the gaps, let's craft another title team.
Speedy deleted the post. I think he was trying to say he (Speedy) is just getting started since it was the 5 yr anniversary of his hiring. Had nothing to do with Davis apparently.

LOL, the daily temperature taking during the offseason in this NIL world is funny. Cruz and Jean are both leaving. Cruz may go but Jean is staying. Oh wait, it's the other way around. Edmead is staying, Edmead is going. Cruz is staying. Wait, we don't know if he is or isn't. Sometimes, we just have to let things play out.
While we wait out the Cruz mess, saw on verbal commits that both Killian Brockoff from W&M and Charleston's super promising freshman Chris Davis Jr are both in the portal (and Charleston lost Colby Duggan and Christian Reeves recently too).
There is like literally NO ONE left in the conference
Yes good post PoP and a guy whose numbers seem similar to Victory' playing less minutes. Also a better FT shooter based on his stats last year. At 7' though probably needs to put on some muscle at 215. Now need to get another tree and we should be good down low. A very good acquisition for the staff here.
Nice addition. Very good defender. Terrific shot-blocker and can actually hit a three pointer.
Seems from videos to be much more mobile than Silas Sunday, but could benefit from adding some weight.
Beautiful, that's one! Dig this get, athletic 7 footer that can get up and down the floor, has good hands, decent shot, can stretch to the 3 line, and makes attackers think twice in the paint. And I think he's fine at 215 - if he gets up to 225 that's great, but he's not a Silas bruiser replacement, he's a different player - more versatile. Mobility is key in this rebuild. Solid add and solid start.
Yesterday was the first day for on-campus visits to happen during this portal season. Not sure if he visited, but very good sign to snag one quickly. As mentioned Speedy & Co. look to be right on point in terms of correcting the gap of athleticism in the size. Let's keep that train rolling.
And HU is rightly playing this game quietly - I don't expect to see their name listed a lot on twitter/x, need to continue to keep our moves close to the vest and harder to track so we don't drive up NIL's or cause a bidding war that pushes us out for anyone we want.
Need another 6'10+ guy to firm up the middle. The next one can be a bit heavier if desired as we'll still need some weight vs some opponents.
2 explosive 6'6-6'9 Wings/Forwards that can fly and 2 crafty 6'3-6'5 Guards that can light it up. Reel 'em in boys.
Kid's rebounding numbers are a little low, but he does look athletic and shot blocking profile is great. Can't teach height!
Yeah, I noticed the same with the rebounding numbers. Would like to see more of that from a 7-footer. On the plus side, he not only doubled his shot blocking numbers from his two prior years to almost two blocks a game, but he increased his poor FT shooting from under 60% his first two years to a much more respectable almost 70% last year. He also only had one start over his first two years but started 14 of 32 games last year, it seems he improved his game last season and hopefully would continue an upward trajectory here next year. Speedy has preached defense as a staple every year. So, if that can continue with whatever roster he has next year, that'll only be strengthened as a unit if Zorgvol can be a rim protector.
