Well that didnt take long for Victory to foul himself out of the half. Wonder if Speedy would consider going small and play DeCady at the 5 at all here? Know its a lineup we've barely used but this could be the right opponent for it. Alex T doesnt have lateral quickness defensively for this game

Davis just 8 pts each of the last two games. Already 8 in the first roughly 8 mins.

DeCady already putting his imprint on the game. A good assist for German's 3 to start the scoring, a nice drive to beat the shot clock for a bucket with the play breaking down, and an offensive board and second-chance bucket.

Terrific terrific half. So much credit to Speedy and the staff, really made the necessary adjustments to match up with W&M. Thats a really good team over there, what Hofstra just didnt ain't easy.

Watch the fouls, keep the up the focus on both ends, and let's close this thing out!!!!

Beating W&M at their own game. W&M's pace and outgunning them from 3. And yet still on pace to get to 19-1 holding teams under 70.

Cruz back to POY form.

Anybody buying that being a cheap shot from Cruz? I dunno. But they're gonna call Hofstra for fouls on every possession rest of the way if we're not careful

I'd think about getting Roberts in this game here for more ball handling. Waaaaaaaay too much time left with the amount of FTs W&M is gonna take here rest of the way. Hofstra struggling to break the press with Edmead on the bench

Maybe I didn’t see it right but looked like the player ran into Cruz’s shoulder when he was running by. They said he threw an elbow - I didn’t see that.

Obviously hope the player is ok - certainly don’t want to see anyone get hurt.

Agreed. Cruz caught him with either an elbow or shoulder but no way that was intentional knowing what we've seen from him over last 2 yrs. Surprised Dave Ryan seemed so definitive about calling that a cheap shot on pxp on Flo

MONSTER game from HU, and just in the nick of time - this was the statement we were looking for, and we finally saw the POY in full form! Kudos to the team and staff, ever one to the man came out with serious FIRE and to me that was the difference - we took a shock and awe to W&M and they were shell shocked. Awesome awesome job all around

That's 1-0. Now it's test #2. A big one vs a physical Towson squad - we'll need to come out with the same big energy in this one - can't afford any letdown time - Tejada seems on a mission, so Cruz will have his chance to outshine and showcase what he's all about.

Playing fire start to finish, let's do that again! It's all right there for the taking - 1-0 mentality, do it again on Monday night!

That 2nd half was great practice for Towson. Expect a full 40 mins of that physicality and chippiness tomorrow. Guys really brought it tonight, broke W&M's spirit. Rest up and do it again!

2 stats that illustrate the adjustments Hofstra made tonight besides obviously the final score...

In the Jan loss W&M took 71 shots and had 23 assists. Tonight 46 shots and 8 assists.

Defense wins championships. Speedy's favorite cliche really is true

We won 92-61, so we scored over 50 percent more. We have two wins by over 30 in the last five games. Last season we won by over 30 in one of two non-Division I games, and not against a Division I team. We are good enough to win big even when we have a couple of bad statistics. We shot .379 in the second half, and still scored 50 percent more than W&M. We scored at least 50 percent more than W&M in both halves and at least 50 percent more than Hampton in both halves. We committed 25 fouls, and Davis, Edmead, and Plotnikov committed 4.

Davis scored 30. He shot 9-15, made 5 threes, and led all players with 5 assists. Plotnikov had 15 of his 17 points come from threes, and he had 5 rebounds. Edmead scored 13 by shooting field goals 2-12 and free throws 8-9. He had only 1 rebound and 2 assists. Patterson had the only double-double on either team with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Sunday scored 7, shot field goals 3-3, and tied Patterson for the most rebounds on either team. Reaves scored 6 in 22 minutes. Wills scored 4 in 6 minutes, and had 1 steal. DeCady had 4 points and 3 rebounds in 27 minutes. Onuetu missed both field goals and scored 1. Roberts and Tsynkevich played the last 3:25 without scoring. Roberts missed a three, and Tsynkevich did not shoot. We used eleven players. The bench played 64 minutes, and most teams would have more bench minutes in a blowout. Davis and Edmead led us with 30 minutes, and we had seven players play 22 to 30 minutes. Before the game, I might have given it under 1 in 1,000 chance of our seventh most minutes being 8 minutes less than our most minutes without Davis or Edmead fouling out, being ejected, or getting injured. I hope Plotnikov is not injured. He went down with 10:08 left, and he did not return. Foul trouble could be a blessing in disguise if it helps Davis and Edmead play well for longer later in the Tournament.

Jo'el Emanuel led W&M with 16 points, and led them with 8 rebounds. Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi was their other double-digit scorer with 12.

We committed only 6 turnovers, and W&M entered with 14.4 forced. We committed 8 turnovers when we lost to them, so we committed under 14.4 turnovers in two games against them combined. W&M had only 4 points off turnovers. We had more rebounds, 41 to 32, including more offensive rebounds, 16 to 9. W&M shot .500 in the first half, .208 in the second half, and .348 in the game. W&M's starters combined to have 5 rebounds, and I wish I could find out if that is a record for fewest rebounds by a team's starters.

Here are the Analytics leaders. In efficiency, Davis was first with 29, and Plotnikov and Sunday tied for second with 20. In game score, Davis led with 24.9, Plotnikov was second with 15.1, and Emanuel was third with 14.4. In net points, Davis led with 20.5, Plotnikov was second with 10.0, and Patterson was third with 5.9. Emanuel led W&M in all three. Net points added up to 23.5 for us, and -24.6 for them. I would have expected the gap to be larger.

There were some unusual things. The opening tip was not won. The ball ended up with both teams grabbing it, in which case the possession arrow is used. However, the team that loses the opening tip gets the possession arrow, but nobody won the opening tip, so nobody had the possession arrow, and there was another jump ball with 19:55 left in the first half. Kyle Pulliam got a personal foul and technical foul to foul out with 6 fouls. Because of the two fouls, Edmead and Patterson reached double-digits without the clock moving in between.

Tomorrow will have our best KenPom going into a game since another Semifinal, which was a 78-74 win over Delaware in overtime on March 11, 2019. We were the 1 seed, but many people thought Northeastern was better. The Delaware game was a sign that we were not playing well enough to win the Tournament, and Northeastern beat us 82-74.

That was definitely not an intentional foul. A hard foul, yes, but not intentional. The W&M player was turning around as Cruz ran by. His face hit Cruz’s shoulder — hard. I think he probably has a concussion.

Listening to the W&M presser, was relieved to hear Brian Earl say he didn't think it was a dirty play. Earl did confirm the kid got knocked out. Hopefully no long term symptoms there.

But Hofstra's physicality clearly got to W&M and Earl seemed to me to be insinuating broke them mentally a little a bit. A welcome new identity for us. Have loved the toughness we've shown all year.

Also German was one of the players at the Hofstra presser and seemed totally fine. So hopefully he's completely good to go tomorrow. Loved his explanation on the opening jump ball he dove after. Really set the tone right away.

Great statement win and so many reasons for this win. Outrebounding them 41-32 with 16 of our rebounds O rebounds and 16 second chance points to their 6. Of course both Cruz and Plotnikoff had big O games but what about Biggie. Ten points in 24 minutes but huge rebounds 12 leading to second chance points. We're an entirely different team when he's on the court an X factor player even when he isn't scoring. He brings the fire that has been talked about here and backs it up with his hard nose play.

Great game plan against the #1 O team in the league taking the AIR out of the ball and just slowing the game down more fitting for our style of play just scoring in a half court offense. I think we need to shut down the easy points we gave up on drives to the basket but a very strong D game for us only allowing 6 second chance points. I believe we are poised to take it to Towson who I think we match up very well with. Three times a charm.
