MBB Recruits 2026-27
MBB Recruits 2026-27
Thought I would start a separate discussion for 2026-27 recruits and commitments, beginning with Jahda Swann, who was mentioned in the 2025-26 MBB thread.
He's not just a slam-dunk monster. These videos show his all-around game. One of them mentions recruiting interest from Providence and Mississippi State.

Re: MBB Recruits 2026-27
I wonder if his signing here will help create more overall recruiting interest for other highly rated players to follow suit.
Re: MBB Recruits 2026-27
I realize that recruit highlights will not include misses and turnovers but this kid looks awesome!!!
Re: MBB Recruits 2026-27
Always have to see what they do once they step on a D1 court, but as a recruit on paper this kid is a stud. This is a big signing for Speedy and HU, and absolutely love that he's an NYC kid. He is close to college ready, which is what is needed today - need kids to come in and play early - no one is sitting around for years like the old days - they want to come to a mid major and make their name in 1-2 years, and then go get paid big $ at a P4 program.
And that's perfectly fine. That's how HU can find success today. Be a legit star-maker, a jump off program. It's that or nothing I'm afraid, so let's be that! This will be our version of sending kids to the league.
And I do wonder as well if we finally found some money, because even here, this kid is going to get paid. No real talent is going anywhere for free - so I'm hoping all these road games and/or some new donors are providing some bucks to provide the boost our roster needs. Hate it like everyone else, but it is what it is and it's never going back. Gotta embrace it and move forward.

Re: MBB Recruits 2026-27
My first thought here is where did this money come from. Are some big donors actually helping out here? I know there was some failed attempts to get some sort of public collective going which seems to be defunct now. If a big donor is actually doing something here would be nice if they actually made it more public so maybe some of us small donors could throw a few bucks towards it or something like that.
Re: MBB Recruits 2026-27
Seemingly huge get-- congrats Speedy and staff.
As far as NLI/$$'s-- there's a good chance that the market for non-top 100 HS kids has drastically shifted just like everything else in the college basketball landscape.
With portal/NLI evolving and no transfer restrictions holding kids back, the majors and high-majors now don't need to deal with the risk and effort in developing unproven D1 talent in the form of non-elite HS kids. I would imagine that their stack rankings and priorities now look something like:
1- Elite proven transfers
2- Elite (Top 100? Top 50? 5* recruits) HS Seniors
3- High performing D1 transfers
4- High Performing D2/Int'l transfers
5- High Performing/High Potential HS Seniors (3* and 4* recruits)
6,7,8 etc.
While I know the above isn't the most scientific, I think it's a decent outline of the shift... with supply of good proven D1 players increasing exponentially, a guy like Jadha becomes more obtainable and probably more affordable for good mid-majors who have shown they're a good path to the majors which is where the real $$$ is. HU now has too overinvest in developing a guy like Jadha to show the next Jadha that we're the best place to spend 1-2 years before cashing in and trying to get a high-major offer.
To everyone else's point, we also could have found some good NLI money all of a sudden... especially if this kid was on the table and could let Speedy make the case with our donor base. I just also wouldn't be surprised if kids like him are a lot less costly now due to this new market shift.
Hopefully the first of many! Again, huge Kudos to Speedy and staff... nothing better than a NYC guard to hopefully add to our lineage.

Re: MBB Recruits 2026-27
We are probably getting about $500k in guarantees for playing road games vs Pitt, Syracuse, UCF et al. In the past that money went to offset school athletic budgets,
My sense is that the Hofstra mat be allowing those funds to be spent on NIL.

Makes sense. Adapt annd adjust or shrivel up and die.

Re: MBB Recruits 2026-27
Would be great if that's the case. As many of you have said, flipping the model from being the home for talented kids who didn't make it right away at high majors to being the feeder school for talented freshman to get to high majors really is really smart. You find the right balance between the two (like with Cruz and Edmead this year) and that seems to be the way to go
MBB Recruits 2026-27
Might be a pipe dream, but If we can figure out how to retain victory and edmeade while adding Swann and another - watch out.

And hopefully CRUZ fits into this PIPE DREAM you have... and yes ...landing quality recruits will certainly attract other quality recruits to the Hofstra program,,,,with all the changes that have taken place in college basketball over the past few years I was a bit concerned about how Hofstra would stack up to the competition but now I see a light at the end of the tunnel and I am excited about the programs future
Re: MBB Recruits 2026-27
Some bad news coming off the Syracuse win is that Jahda Swann has decommitted and is opening up his recruitment.
Re: MBB Recruits 2026-27

So do we know if this is true? I would like to hear it from Zagsblog or another more reliable source:

He supposedly transferred out of NYC to a new nike-sponsored prep school in VA as well... Looks like he got some new advice and is restarting the process in a number of ways.
