mens soccer 2022

Post by stuball888 »

We open with a 2-1 win over Fordham. We score the winning goal with 1 second left on the clock. WOW!

What a dramatic way to open the season! Hopefully another special fall in store for them.

Great to open with a win! Is Fordham any good? Really don't know much about college soccer.

Were 7-9-3 last year but were close in many matches against tough opponents including a 0-0 tie with St. Louis who went 16-1-4 and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.

Ranked at #17 we lose to Rhode Island 2-0 and drop out of the top 20 but worse then that we lose to Stony Brook 2-1. What happened to this highly touted program? Just a few speed bumps? I hate when we lose to Stony Brook in anything an now they're in the conference.

We lost our best player early in the game due to a hamstring injury and another top player with a hand injury who did come back...surely these losses had an impact...

Also with the graduation of Vochwinkle this is the one player other teams keyed on. He freed up other players and gave them more room to operate.

Hofstra won 2-1 at UNCW with all of the goals being late. UNCW scored at 73:54. Eliot Goldthorp scored a penalty kick at 78:50, and Francesco Perinelli scored the winner at 86:17. That is according to the box score, but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euil8st-9Y0 is highlights that do not match, as they show the penalty kick at 80:05. Elon tied, and Hofstra tied Elon for first at 4-1-1. Every team played six of nine CAA games. Hofstra's loss was to Stony Brook, who is 2-4-0 in the CAA. Hofstra hosts Elon on Saturday. If Hofstra wins, a win and a tie in their last two games would be enough for the regular season title and hosting any CAA Tournaments they play in.

So we lose to Elon3-1. We should learn from this and move on.

So we go on the road and play the Virginia Cavaliers. They just beat NCAA defending champions Clemson. Today we get out shot 14-2 but we pull out a 1-1 tie.

Yeah but only 3 of their shots were on goal to our two. It's about making the SOG count.

It was the 102nd minute. It would have been the 107th if it was at the same point in the second overtime after a 15 minute overtime, which is what pro soccer has. We had more shots on goal in regulation 9 to 3. W&M had more shots on goal in overtimes 2 to 1. Each school got 4 yellow cards.

The announcer pointed out that Eliot Goldthorp's 14 goals lead Division I.

We play at 2 seed UNCW on Sunday at 2:00 P.M. Drexel leads Northeastern 1-0. If that winner wins at Elon and we win, we host the Final.

https://gohofstra.com/news/2022/11/3/me ... -goal.aspx is titled "Carmichael Sends Hofstra To CAA Semifinals With Overtime Goal."

I wonder how rare it is for a player to lead Division I in goals as of when his or her conference announced awards and have a teammate win player of the year.
