Game 1 - Coppin State
2 days! I'm not sure any of us fully know what to expect from this year's team, but I'm sure we can all agree that it'll be exciting. Any guesses on score and/or starting 5? Last time we played Coppin State, we beat them at their place 105-64 in 2014. I'm hoping we can at least score somewhere in the 80s. I'm going to guess we come away with a 82-61 win. Starting 5 prediction: Powers, Buie, Robinson, Bernardi, Gustys.

Re: Game 1 - Coppin State
I am thinking a starting 5 of Powers, Bernardi, Robinson, Greet and Gustys. Should have a fairly deep bench though. Probably will see a lot of Buie, Wright-Forman, Sabety and maybe Pemberton off the bench in this game.
Hoping for a big blowout so that they can really empty the bench and see what they have.

Re: Game 1 - Coppin State
I agree with HofstraMathew - no real need to start 2 PGs. I think Powers and Buie will each get their 20 minutes of playing time working with various lineup combinations. They both need to know how to work with everyone else (i.e. both need to be able to feed Rok routinely). I think playing time will be spread evenly at the 2-3 between JWF, BB, and EP. I think JR might be used interchangeably at the 3-4, and if he plays a little more at the 3, then I would not be surprised to see 2 bigs on the floor at the same time. It might be a bit of an experiment, but based on how HS appears to move (pretty well I think.....based on the small sample of watching him at midnight madness), we might be able to use such a combination once in a while. Might even see ST in there for a few minutes.
Generally, I think the game will be easily won and playing time will be spread around.

PUMPED
Starting 5: Powers, Bernardi, Robinson, Greer, Gustys
That 'feels' like a JM lineup. I would also anticipate a healthy dose of the bench. I am also hopeful that this game will be very well in hand for HU in the 2nd half that they will be able to experiment with players and plays, including the walk-ons. Because, hey, you never know - finally have a full bench, biggest thing now is to make sure they are all game ready just in case.
However, I will caution all that 1) this is new look HU club still needing to find it's identity and flow, and 2) CSU although not a talented club is full of upper class men (7 Srs and 2 Jrs) - so their experience may help them battle a bit. HU will need it's leaders to establish a confident steady pace to ensure the jitters of game 1 do not overtake the game.
PoP, love your bold prediction of a 2 PG set - although I agree that is not necessary right now, I do think it is a growing trend in D1, and HU happens to have 2 that could pull it off - I'm not opposed to it in certain circumstances - it could be beneficial at times, and could be an interesting strategy here and there. Either way, agree that Powers and Buie will likely see equal time.
I would expect JWF to finally get some real PT, although BB is entrenched in his starting role IMO. I am very curious to see how they use Robinson. Sounds like he's got a Nichols feel to him, but will they use him off the bench like that? That would mean a smaller 3 guard set - not unrealistic - interested to find out... EP will DEF see game action from the start, but I don't think enormous minutes yet - LOT of depth.
And I like that JM is not divulging that info until game day - smart, and I agree. No one needs any advantages in this game.

Polito JM taking the Trump approach. Dont reveal your gameplan to the enemy.

Re: Game 1 - Coppin State
I only went with Buie over Greer since I've seen Buie play in a Hofstra uniforms I didn't get to watch the scrimmage at midnight madness so I didn't see how Greer looked. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts though. Seems we all pretty much agree the other 4 seem like a lock, although as Stu pointed out JAM could have something completely different up his sleeve.
And side note, expect this game to start closer to 7:30 at least. No way it'll be at 7 with the women's game starting at 5.

I see Bernard, Powers, Robinson, Gustys, and Greer getting the starting nods with large doses of Bui, Forman, Pemberton and Sabety

Wouldn't be surprised to see us run something of a Villanova style offense with four true guards or guard/wings. Our recruiting has been trending small and fast and i think that's for a reason.

Wont be able to make it tomorrow night, but I am excited as ever. Always love when a new season arrives.. Hope this one is ours..

Can't wait to see how JM works the rotation. Hoping this game lines up so we can see a lot of the guys get in and maybe preview a few different looks. I know its unlikely, but would love to see what Gustys and Sabety on the court at the same time would look like. I imagine foul troubles and continued lack of faith in AW would prevent it.

The women look great one quarter into the game, up 22-8 over Marist. Marist traditionally a very good team, not one to be taken lightly at all. Ashunae Durant is single-handedly outscoring the Red Foxes, she has 10 points thus far.

women with a 20 point blowout, 62-42, although Marist made it close a few times. Several freshmen played significant minutes, and most of them got their first collegiate points.
Live stats for the men's game have Powers, JWF, Gustys, Bernardi, and Robinson as starters.

Game already started and there's still no video.
So far we have no answer for Coppin State on offense or defense. CSU is up 16-10, and shooting at a very high clip, they're also out rebounding us. Ugly.

the game can be seen under the feed for the women's game.

works under the correct link now for the men's game.
Currently down 28-23, we're shooting 25% (7-28). Gustys has 16 rebounds with just less than 3 minutes to go in the first half, but is 0-5 from the FT line...

Re: Game 1 - Coppin State
They refuse to go to the hoop and are losing a 3 pt shooting contest. Very sloppy.

Re: Game 1 - Coppin State
First half honestly made me want to puke, worst effort I've seen in a while. CSU is up 36-28. The only bright sides are Gustys' rebounding and Deron Powers. They look like they expected to beat this team by 40 like we did 2 years ago, so they're not putting in any effort.

What's the record for most points put up by a Hofstra freshman in their collegiate debut? Pemberton has 20 and the game's not over yet!

Re: Game 1 - Coppin State
So I was out of town and didn't catch the game. Looking at the box score, what happened?? Rokas 0-8 from FT? Bernardi 0-8 from three? What is going on? At least Pemberton looked good. If we are struggling against Coppin on our home floor we're in for a rough time, really hoping this was a fluke.
