Re: Transfers and Other Player News
Reasonable targets for us given who's left in the portal, tried to think about players who had some kind of tie to the area but also included some from big schools who may just be hungry for guaranteed PT: -Josh Gray, LSU. Putnam Science Academy grad leaving an SEC school after 1 year of no playing ...

Re: MBB Recruits 2021
He got pretty minimal time at Penn but it looks like he has some touch, 71% from the line and actually takes threes. Seems like depth but we'll see, having a 6'8 older guy can't hurt.

Re: MBB Recruits 2021
Hard to see where the time comes from but I guess we'll see. Lot of guards, can easily imagine more of a 3-guard rotation where our "small forward" is 6'3.

Good for Kevin, have to assume he'll get big minutes there.

Re: MBB Recruits 2021
Big talent add. My only concern is that he isn't a truly proven shooter, something this roster still needs. But he can def play PF, feels like some kind of wing rotation of Cramer/Green/Dubar is pretty well set for the 3/4 spots, don't need to prioritize more depth there, especially when you conside...

Re: Hofstra Golf
Stu is just pushing his Hofstra rifle agenda ;) More seriously, I feel about golf like I do track -- track was also kind of slogging along and Coach Giambanco has done a good job of at least making the program respectable. It's not LI is lacking in golf access or talent, even if the weather isn't id...

Re: MBB Recruits 2021
Kelsey is already making moves at CofC and I hope we can emulate it. Got Nick Farrar from NC State, top 200 recruit a year ago. Got Fah'mir Ali, a FR from Radford who put up 11 pts and 4 assists last year. And got a D2 All-American Dalton Bolon who is like 25 years old and scored 22 ppg last year wh...

Re: MBB Recruits 2021
Have to assume Green is starting SF until we see otherwise. Wouldn't hate Zion Bethea at smallball backup SF, basically run a 3-guard rotation, especially if he can shoot. Similarly, Cramer at smallball 5 is appealing to me...get a team that pushes the tempo, stretches the floor.

Awesome news, Jalen is such a steady shooter, something that this team will need.

Re: Coaching search
Feels like Farrelly has a lot of those Philly-area connections (in media i've read about Cramer/Barrouk it seems like MF is credited with the process), whereas Speedy is a straight NYC guy. Makes sense why Penn State would want MF in the building to get those kids to head west.

Re: So who will Speedy add to his staff
I'm putting my faith in Speedy but some doubt is warranted (wasn't around for Pecora days so can't compare). Speedy was effectively the #2 assistant on a solid mid-major program. Not generally the type of guy you see elevated to HC unless it's for a smaller NEC-tier school like LIU or something. Tha...

Re: Coaching search
Nothing against Speedy but it's bizarre to know your HC is sick a year in advance, promote his #1 assistant to acting HC, conduct a "national search" that takes longer than most coaching hires out there, only to land on the acting assistant coach at the same program! Could have locked this...

Re: Coaching search
My concern is that Farrelly is not Joe...just because Farrelly was on Joe's staff doesn't mean he can continue Joe's success. However, I do trust the hiring committee to make the right decision and not be clouded by their ties to the current staff. If Farrelly ends up being the guy, I will assume th...

Re: Coaching search
Winthrop's Pat Kelsey is going to CofC...really legit hire for CofC and hopefully something that can bolster the conference (though not at the cost of our success)!

Re: Transfers and Other Player News
Appreciate Kevin's time here, he was about as good a backup big as a mid-major can expect. Always brought energy. At the same time, he was never going to surpass Kante for meaningful minutes, so it's understandable if he decides to go to a smaller school and see if he can be more of a featured playe...

Re: Coaching search
My ideal would be to bring in someone new who is a proven great recruiter, with the understanding that they'd take Speedy on staff maybe as Associate Head Coach. Understand you don't want to dictate a coach's staff too much but Speedy is clearly a boon to Hofstra. He could prob get any asst. job at ...

Re: Coaching search
Lots to consider. Farrelly seems like a good guy and at least part of a solid recruiting team. This year's COVID season is just noise, I don't want to take away too much in either direction when the interim head coach is thrown into a maelstrom the moment after the two best players graduate. I think...

Re: MBB Recruits 2021
Best wishes to Barrouk, nothing wrong with a redshirt year. In the meantime, agree with Polito that we'll need some immediate talent. Best way to get it is transfers, should be a big market and we should keep an eye out on any Kante-type guys who are looking to come back home.

Re: MBB Recruits 2021
The state of mid-major transfers is annoying. I'm sure all these transfers have their individual reasons, but it's difficult for even a well-run, competitive program like Northeastern to lose guys like Tyson Walker. Schools at our level need to grind so hard to find diamonds in the rough, nothing is...

Re: 2021 CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament
Good to hear that Masic is alright, hope everyone else is doing well also. It was a weird year, definitely one of the weirdest ones in Hofstra bball history, no two ways around it. No Joe, COVID, an already young team that saw its two emotional leaders graduate. That does make it easier to be lenien...
