MBB Game 23 - TOWSON - 1/31/15, 8 PM

Might as well start this early, as the team didn't really look much into that William and Mary game.
Coming off an awful awful loss, this game is imperative to us. This team needs to bounce back and get the ball rolling in the right direction.
With students being back, I hope The Mack is packed. No reason it should not be.
We should handle this Towson team. Maybe win by a towson? Who knows

Game is on SNY, and Hofstra is trying to get students to come by giving away free food and snapback hats.

A bunch of my friends are going to this game. Doing a reunion of sorts. Should be about 10-12 strong. Hopefully the students come out. The crowds have been apathetic student wise this year.

Don't count on the students. This game's excuse is that it's a weekend and we lost to W&M. This is, IMO a MUST win, no excuses.

Quite frankly this team has taken the wind out of the sails and really given the fans very little to be excited about - and they've played like crap at home to boot...
I don't like giving up on college teams but my goodness it's very difficult to keep 'up' when players and staff don't truly give their best and leave it all on the floor - and I don't think they're doing that every game across the board, just a player or 2 each game - they're leaving wins unclaimed and beating themselves mostly
I can handle hard fought guts on the floor losses when the other team just is better despite your absolute best effort - but when you lay your a$$ down have little to no heart and put forth no real effort I just can't root for that
Hope these hung men wake up and start putting their full heart into their legacy at HU - only got this yr and next to leave a mark - praying its a very good one...for their sake.

I was so looking forward to this season with confidence that we'd be seeing our best basketball in years. I am not sure that this team has "it". On the surface yes there is talent but they don't seem to be able to adapt to other teams; unable to close out or hold on to leads and just don't play, night in and night out, inspiring basketball. We were warned by many (Zman) that JAM teams are not known for defense, but to totally disregard defense is ridiculous.

Last years team was much more enjoyable to watch (and that's saying something). I'm really falling off this season. I hope they can get their act together and make some noise in the playoffs, it will go a long way with our recruiting.

I'm pretty sure the CAA will be on campus covering this game and the women's game vs Delaware on Sunday.

that's kind of my feeling dutchalum, I don't want to knock these young men, but lately it just doesn't feel like they're playing their guts out - and I'm just not ok with that
last years team lost a ton, but if you recall I was very rarely down on them - quite the opposite - I was very impressed that they managed to FIGHT their way to be IN almost every game - they worked their tails off, they were just out-talented most of the time
THAT is ok to me - not living up to your potential is not. Not playing D because you're too lazy, don't care, or never learned is not acceptable - playing every game like you don't need to concern yourself with that little ol part of the game because you think you're going to simply 3 your way out of it, is NOT ok.
Look, I don't expect perfection, no coaching staff or system is perfect, heck Wright's teams couldn't hit FT's to save their lives if I recall correctly...
And I get JM's team are O heavy and D is not their strength - I'm actually ok with that, because you can win playing small and fast in college, BUT that doesn't mean you don't play any D - you HAVE to play well enough D to win - they're not doing that, and again, that is NOT ok. This MUST change, NOW.

http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=67978&a=1 will have statistics.
Hofstra is starting Green, Tanksley, Bernardi, Robinson, and Kone. Robinson becomes the ninth Hofstra player to start this season.
Towson is starting Byron Hawkins (guard), Four McGlynn (guard), Walter Foster (forward), Timajh Parker-Rivera (forward), and Mike Morsell (forward). Morsell is a freshman and this will be his fourth start.
Edit: The broadcasters are Carl Reuter, who did postgame interviews after our last conference tournament win in 2001, and Blaine Taylor, former coach of Old dominion.

Still not guarding anyone.
Four McGlynn has basically been a perimeter shooter since his days at Vermont. He shouldn't be able to get to the hoop unimpeded.
Other Towson players taking uncontested jumpers with our guys making half-hearted, last-second reaches before the ball swishes through the net. That's not defense and that's not okay. And it's why this season continues to slip away.
Better hope the 3s go in (we missed 6 straight before Nesmith just hit one to make it 21-18, Tigers, after we were up 5-0 and 7-3). Otherwise, this is headed for another disappointment unless we decide to actually guard someone for a change.

Hofstra leads 37-36 at halftime thanks to Green's two free throws with 0.1 seconds left. Towson has shot better but Hofstra has 9 more field goals attempted thanks in part to 10 Towson turnovers. There were 6 ties and 12 lead changes. Nesmith leads all scorers with 11 points and has made three three-pointers. Timajh Parker-Rivera, John Davis, and Tanksley are tied for the lead with 4 rebounds. Green leads all players with 4 assists. Green has 8 points but has shot field goals poorly and doesn't have a rebound. Bernardi hasn't scored.
Twice the announcers said Tanksley averaged 6.4 assists when they meant Green.

Towson started the second half on a layup and a left-corner 3, prompting Coach to call a time out 48 seconds into the half, after which he walked in disgust toward the key as his team started to huddle at the bench.

This team SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS
No interest on D, no interest in rebounding. Team has stopped sharing the basketball. Walker never being used and Gustys not overly impressive. This team gets abused down low on a nightly basis, its a mismatch that every team now exposes.... The guards cant overcome it.

Including tonight, Walker has a total of 25 minutes and 9 Did Not Plays over the past 14 games after getting 21 and 18 minutes the first two games of the season and generally being in the rotation over the first 9 games.

I am tired of "hoping" things will turn around. I am fed up. Tied of hearing how Green is such an elite passer and complete player. He can pass well and knows how to convert after drawing a foul.....but complete player....I don't think so. I'm also beginning to think that Tanksley looked very good early in the season solely because of the level of competition we played. he has not consistently played at that same level since we started conference play. Could it be that the Niagara conference is closer to our non-conference schedule than the CAA is and all the optimism for these two guys was based on playing lesser competition?? I don't know, I'm just asking.....but I have lost patience and confidence in these two.
Shot selection by Green and Tanksley was awful especailly when it mattered. Having 3 pointers blocked or throwing them up and not even hitting the top of the rim (shots hitting the sides)! Dribbling balls off your feet and then looking at the ref liked he missed a call...c'mon....it was pitiful.
And of course - no "D" played again tonight. Same old theme.

Was the tech at the end really necessary?
Anyway, awesome student turn out today, I've don't think i've ever seen them on the upper tier like that, but after this pitiful loss, who knows how many students will come now.
