Conference Change?

Post by HofstraFan101 »

Have there been any talks of conference realignment for us? I remember there being a lot of talk in 2009 but haven't heard any since. If the team continues to improve maybe a future move to the A-10' is possible

I believe there will be shakeup If Conf USA boots UAB now that they have no fball - They could go after JMU to replace them - not sure where the UAB thing stands though

I have another possible team for the CAA should they need one: Coastal Carolina - nice mid major athletic program, nice facilities, right size, adds to southern recruiting connection - seems like potentially a good fit

Still undecided on the best (realistic) northern options

Coastal Carolina is very good athletically but I have heard big concern with them is their academics. I'd much rather have Furman or Wofford if they were to add another southern team. As far as Hofstra changing conferences, I don't see it unless A-10 somehow expresses interest. MAAC probably won't happen due to their scholarship restrictions on non-basketball sports.

The MAAC is not at all a fit for HU - I know their overall basketball profile is nice, esp considering their school sizes, but the schools and overall athletic programs are just not the right fit

Honestly, HU doesn't need to (and shouldn't) move at all now that others have left - the current state of the CAA is actually quite good for HU's success overall, and return to basketball prominence - HU is finally in a position to win, let's hold tight and take advantage

If no one leaves the CAA, no one should be added - no positive for HU to just add for the sake of expansion - if they do, my hope is the league will keep to schools that fit the profile and add geographic value in terms of exposure and recruiting - want them maintain the current number of programs - it's juuust right for HU to succeed

this is the perfect setup in my mind right now, between the current CAA and the overhaul of HU's bball program - this is a situation that's basically an upgraded AE for HU - they can legitimately battle for the conf crown most yrs, in most sports - that's exactly what you're looking for at this level - a real post-season shot every yr - any change to that would be foolish right now

I would only want a move from the CAA if we restarted football and joined the Patriot League with Fordham full time or William and Mary. That would bring the Patriot to 12 teams.

Otherwise there are not many good fits for us right now. If the Men's basketball tournament expanded, it would likely lead to more autobids, and maybe we could lead a new northeast based conference with Drexel, Delaware, Towson, and Northeastern, and poach a few bottom feeders from the massive A-10.

Overall, the CAA is the best fit for us right now, and should continue to be the best fit until the athletic landscape has some kind of overhaul.

Yep, HU needs to stay firmly put right now and win some CAA championships to get to the dance

I don't buy one bit that expansion = more bids - that's not necessarily true. What earns more bids is better quality basketball -> more and better OOC wins over power programs - potential expansion teams for the CAA are not quite at the level to 'guarentee' multi-bids, so to me that doesn't help at all - what the CAA needs is not more teams, they just need the teams they have to improve to the VCU, ODU, and previously GMU level of play

IMO more teams = tougher to win - and if the CAA doesn't get multi-bids, that does absolutely nothing positive for HU. Just win baby, that's all that's needed until as you said, another major landscape change occurs

Expansion definitely means more bids!

Assuming they are adding UConn, Kansas, and Kentucky.

lol exactly

trust me, the CAA needs to stay just like it is for the time being - only change that should occur is if they need to replace someone leaving, that's it.

This is HU's time - capitalize.
