Conference play finally arrives with a road trip to UNCW. At least we get our longest flight out of the way early in the season.

Wilmington is always a difficult place to play. This could be a tough game for us.

Wouldn't College of Charleston be a longer flight than UNCW?

Hofstra has no CAA games that start at noon this season.

Wow where is everyone? Start of CAA play and all we get are crickets! ESPN pick center has game -4.5 for Pride. Would like to see us get off to a strong start at a tough place to play.

http://gohofstra.com/news/2015/1/1/MBB_0101154200.aspx is Hofstra's preview. http://gohofstra.com/documents/2015/1/1 ... game14.pdf is Hofstra's Game Notes. http://www.uncwsports.com/news/2015/1/2 ... 54206.aspx is UNC Wilmington's preview. http://www.uncwsports.com/documents/201 ... df?id=2106 is UNC Wilmington's Game Notes, which is 46 pages compared to 30 pages for Hofstra's Game Notes.

http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=68030&a=1 will have statistics. http://portal.stretchinternet.com/hofstra/ has a link to video from UNC Wilmington but it doesn't work until 1:45 P.M.

Another CAA game, College of Charleston at William & Mary, is on SNY while Hofstra is playing.

Edit: The Sagarin and its components expect Hofstra to win by 6.10, 10.41, 7.43, and 1.65. UNC Wilmington has a better RPI than Hofstra.

Edit: Hofstra is starting Malik Nichols, Juan'ya Green, Ameen Tanksley, Brian Bernardi, and Moussa Kone. UNC Wilmington is starting Craig Ponder (guard), Jordan Talley (guard), Freddie Jackson (guard), C.J. Gettys (center), and Addison Spruill (guard). The players' positions are from ESPN, and UNC Wilmington has a large roster of 18 players, with 11 guards, 5 forwards, and 2 centers. Only 11 out of the 18 players have played so far. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... n-seahawks has UNC Wilmington's statistics. UNC Wilmington is 5-6 with one overtime played, and 37.9% of their minutes this season have been played by forwards and centers.

Edit: The video at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/neoPl ... Type=video stops on its own and you have to restart it. They're announcing the lineups and the game is about to start.

The feed is about as bad as our shooting. We've made one three and are shooting 50 percent from line. Poor effort thus far.

down 11 at half. very poor showing. Shooting is horrible. Gustys has missed 3 or 4 shots inside 5 feet. Many three point shots are not even close - hitting the outside of the rim! Travels, lost dribbles, looks like a team that beats RPI 300+ teams but cant play with anybody competent. We should be down by 20, but UNCW has also had plenty of bad plays. Bellieve it or not, we can win this game with a good second half!

UNC Wilmington hasn't scored for 3:38, and Tanksley's first three-pointer gave Hofstra a 43-42 lead. There's 11:42 left.

HU is not playing their game at all - very glad to see Gustys back, and as should be expected quite rusty...

And once again, when you need a leader to step up and do something, Green has been completely shut down - beyond frustrating - need Tanksley and Berardi to take over!

Felt the same thing about the quietness HUSID, and I was guilty - holidays and sick household took so e of my attention away!

HU going on a run as I write this, lets to boys, get your game going!

Hofstra went up 59-53 before UNC Wilmington made a three-pointer to go down 59-56.

Edit: Hofstra won 68-56. Hofstra ended on a 9-0 run and going back farther a 21-4 run. UNC Wilmington missed their last five three-pointers. Green and Tanksley tied for Hofstra's lead with 15 points and 3 assists each. Gustys led all players with 10 rebounds. Hofstra made a season-low 18 field goals, tied for a season-low 4 three-pointers, and 28 free throws, which is their second most this season. Hofstra had their worst field goal percentage (.305) and three-point field goal percentage (.182) of the season. It was Hofstra's worst three-point field goal percentage in a win since a 63-53 win in Rhode Island against Cleveland State on November 26, 2011 and Hofstra's worst field goal percentage in a win since a 66-61 winning hosting Delaware on January 7, 2009.

12 pt victory. We played better in the 2nd half. We had help for UNCW (they played poorly).

I am glad to see a victory on the road to open up the season, but we cannot continue to show up for only 20 minutes per game. We need to get back on track.

Good to see Gustys back - definitely a presence on the defensive end (needs work on the offensive end).

As coach says, this is the way good teams can come back - and we did just that.

On to Delaware!

Holy cow what a comeback win!!! WOW

So all I needed to do was come on here and call out Green?! Consider it DONE from here on out! LOL 8-)

Green stepped it up and hit some big shots/made some big plays - and of course Tanksley was again the teams warrior - tough road game every yr, terrible first half, but team never gave up (most important of any game to me) and come back to EARN a hard fought victory - great job fellas!

1-0 in the only thing that matters, conf play!

Team won this game on guts. Nothing going right in first half as 3s were notfalling. Remedy is drive to the basket andget your points from the ft liline.i think they were 10-15 and we were 28 of 43. 18 point difference, game set and match.

Hofstra led for 8:17, UNC Wilmington led for 30:01, and the game was tied for 1:41 (the box score makes it add up to 39:59, not 40:00). At the end Nesmith stole the ball by picking it up when UNC Wilmington let the ball roll to save time. UNC Wilmington shot field goals, three-pointers, and free throws better than Hofstra. Hofstra won because they attempted 1 more field goal and 28 more free throws.

Edit: Hofstra moved up from 182nd to 165th in RPI. Hofstra's RPI is now .4999.

Edit: Hofstra tied their second fewest points allowed this season and allowed their fewest points in a CAA game since they allowed 52 against UNC Wilmington on February 8, 2014. It's the third consecutive season Hofstra has held UNC Wilmington to 56 points or fewer.

Edit: http://gohofstra.com/boxscore.aspx?id=6418 is the box score.

Worst live feed ever-finally switched to live stats and watched that for remainder of game.

I would like to have been in our locker room at halftime-coached must have ripped them a new one.

all is well that end well.

http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400597902 is the Associated Press recap titled "Hofstra comes back, beats UNC-Wilmington 68-56." http://gohofstra.com/news/2015/1/3/MBB_0103153802.aspx is Hofstra's recap titled "MBB: Hofstra Opens CAA Play With Comeback Victory." http://www.uncwsports.com/news/2015/1/3 ... 55651.aspx is UNC Wilmington's recap titled "Hofstra Rallies To Trim UNCW In CAA Opener, 68-56."

All five CAA games today were decided by at least 9 points. I watched College of Charleston at William & Mary on DVR even though it was never a close game, with William & Mary winning 75-45.

Edit: UNC Wilmington says they made only one field goal in the last 8:14.

Our shooting percentages today were awful: FG%, .305; 3FG%, .182; and FT%, .651. UNCW wasn't much better, but I don't care about them.

This win officially gives us as many as we had last year (10), and makes us the first team in the conference to have double digit wins (although 2 have double digit losses, Delaware has 11 and Drexel has 10).
