Saban, Trump and NIL

Post by triplec2195 »

I saw this on the internet and wonder if this has potential roots to drastically change ,modify or nullify NIL? https://www.yahoo.com/sports/college-fo ... 29625.html

I would be ALL FOR THIS. I even said it weeks ago that I hoped trump would put an end to this. As a matter of fact, there should be Be an NIL. It’s totally ruined college sports and these kids should be lucky just to get a full ride and an education.

This may not mean much because of this part: "The White House does not formally oversee college athletics, so an executive order would usually bear little weight."

Another possible obstacle could be that the same people in the article that are talking about doing this are from the political party that often complains about regulation getting in the way of people or companies trying to let the free market decide their value, which is exactly what college athletes are being allowed to do now with receiving NIL payments. So, for them to cherry-pick this one issue would be hypocritical and go against their supposed principles and values with respect to the free market in other areas.

Saban is one of the names mentioned as a possible replacement for fired MSU Athletic Director Alan Hallar. Hallar did an excellent job on the athletic side - improving many of the Spartan teams. His problem was on the "schmoozer" side with the big donors. Also he wasn't hired by the new President. Saban, a former MSU football coach who unfortunately left for greener pastures (SEC), is good friends with Izzo and obviously an ear with President Trump.
