MBB Game 25 Sat, Feb 8 vs Stony Brook 4 PM

Homecoming weekend vs. our closest (geographically) CAA rival. The students are back and one lucky fan will win a car, so there should be a large turnout for this late-afternoon start.
There's also going to be a pregame show on YouTube with "surprise guests":
https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/2/5/ath ... -game.aspx
The Seawolves (5-18, 1-9) are struggling this season. Their only league win has come against NC A&T. Tomorrow they host Towson (14-9, 9-1).
We have only two more home games after this.
Watch the action on FloCollege and MSG.

Every season goes by quickly, but especially now, how did that happen already?! That's crazy that before the Super Bowl, there are only two home games left.

I look at ESPN I don't know why because we're becoming so irrelevant but it shows we're 11.5 point favorites with an 86% chance of winning. I can't stand S.B. so I hope this is accurate but is SB this bad??

Yes 5-19 overall and 1-10 in conference onlyNCA&T is worse
And I believe they suspended three of their top scorers for the year

Stony has managed to keep it to 10pts or less in each of their last 3 losses which happen to have been to the murders row of Charleston, Uncw, and Towson. That line seems absurd today

Reverse scoreboard watching...Delaware up 13 at the half on W&M. If they hold on we will need to win today to keep pace and avoid falling into the dreaded bottom four

NC A&T suspended their top two scorers, who are second and fourth in the CAA, and a guy who scored 4 points in 7 minutes all season. In their last game, they used only six players, and still played well in a 66-63 loss at Charleston, who was without two of their top four scorers.
https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=547151 will have statistics.
https://www.flohoops.com/live/142239 will have video.
In addition to the two games in progress, the CAA has two other games at 4:00 P.M., and one at 6:00 P.M. Hampton at Northeastern and Towson at Monmouth are at the same time as us, and Elon at Charleston is the last game. Northeastern is favored by 5.5, Towson is favored by 3.5, and Charleston is favored by 3.5. North Carolina A&T at Campbell is on Monday at 8:00 P.M on CBS Sports Network.

We lead 12-10.
Delaware won 74-64 hosting W&M. Delaware blew a 15 point lead, went down 1, and had a great ending.
Our nonconference opponent Quinnipiac lost as an 11.5 point favorite hosting Niagara. It was 37-37 at halftime, and Niagara won 76-75. Niagara missed the first of a one-and-one, and Quinnipiac missed with 1 second left. Quinnipiac's leading scorer doubled Niagara's leading scorer.
Edit: We led 10-3, but a 16-4 run made us trail 19-14. We came back and lead 33-31 at halftime. Stony Brook missed a 3 with 3 seconds left, followed by a missed 3 by Parnell, who made a 3 earlier. Plotnikov and Graham are fine after their possible injuries on Thursday. The only one of our eleven significant players not to play was Robinson. Aranguren missed 4 field goals in the first 7:03, but then made 3, and he has 7 points and leads all players with 4 assists. Graham has 7 points and is tied with Andre Snoddy for the most rebounds with 8. Graham had 7 rebounds in the first 5:57, and 1 after that. Stony Brook's top four scorers for the season are two injured players and two players with 2 fouls. Their leading scorer is CJ Luster, who scored 8. Ben Wight committed 2 fouls without a point or rebound. Snoddy's 15 points are as much as the next two highest players on either team combined. Snoddy shot 5-7, and he is on pace to be the first player in two years to have at least 30 points, at least 16 rebounds, and make at least 71 percent of his field goals in a loss.
I watched the end of UNCW at Drexel. In the first overtime, UNCW was up 3, missed 2 free throws, and Drexel made a 3 to tie it with 3.3 seconds left. In the second overtime, UNCW was up 3, missed 2 free throws, the announcer said Coach Siddle was signaling UNCW to foul, and Drexel made a 3 to tie it with 4.7 seconds left. UNCW's Greedy Williams scored at the basket at the buzzer to win 81-79, and the announcer said Drexel expected him to pass.
Towson leads 38-33 at Monmouth. Hampton leads 45-38 at Northeastern. With UNCW's win, Towson must win to stay in sole possession of first.

Andre Snoddy and CJ Luster became the first teammates from 2010-2011 to now to have at least 26 points and 9 or fewer field goal attempts. Going back farther, three-pointers were attempted less often, and did not exist, so they could have been the first teammates ever to do that.

Wheels have come off. Something happened to this team somewhere between the Norfolk State and Temple that i cannot explain. After the Temple game the team was never the same. Beats me.

Two more losses will clinch their first losing season in conference play in eight years.
Speedy's first three Februarys: 24-3
This February: 0-3
Obviously, this is not what we're used to. Just a lost year. They'll have to figure out fast how to navigate this new NIL world.
Speedy was extremely frustrated with his players after the game. He said unless they get some toughness, they won't win another game this season.

Mickey75, Record changes from 8-3 (really 6-3 without the D-3 games) to 4-10. Difficult to figure out all the exact causes, but something must have happened. It cannot all be the poor play and difficulties of JS.

We are not the team I thought we would be after the Norfolk game, agreed. Injuries, sickness and the complete disapearace of Sanders have all contributedt o this mess.
It's remarkable how many big leads we have blown in CAA play...even yesterday we were up by eight midway through the second half and seemingly in control.
It would be interesting for Evan to take a look at that.

As my Dad has said since yesterday, "You are what your record says you are." Bill Parcells had it right. This is what the HU team is right now. Dad also quoted ex-Knick Michael Ray Richardson, "The Ship be sinking!" Any other quotes that fit?

Jerry Beach had an alarming stat to that end last night...
"Random Hofstra stat: Per KenPom, the Dutchmen had a win probability of 95.7% when they were up 60-52 w/6:52 left. It's the 10th loss in which Hofstra had a win probability of at least 70%, the sixth loss w/a win prob of at least 80% & the second loss w/a win prob of at least 95%."
